Cutside – Point Of No Return

[BSOG0062]

Cutside

“Point Of No Return”

In March of 2016, we were all introduced to a formidable trip-hop producer hailing from Crimea and going by the name of Cutside. His blocSonic debut EP Paramnesia made a lasting impression with his sophisticated and powerful sound. Today he returns with a long player that’ll knock your teeth out and laugh at you.

The instant that you’re barraged by the artillery beats and Unkle Rasta’s menacing rhymes of track 1 “Welcome To Reality”, you come to the conclusion that you’re listening to something very special. That feeling remains throughout. “Point Of No Return”, indeed.

Bump it loud… and enjoy.

Massive thanks goes out to Cutside, Unkle Rasta, Viktor Van River, Sgt. Penarlaster & Lion for such a dope album!

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Remember… everything we release is cool to share! Always keep the music moving… share it… blog it… podcast it! If you’re in radio… support independent music and broadcast it!

Regenerated Headpiece – Souvenirs, Novelties & Party Tricks XE

[BSXE0017]

Regenerated Headpiece

“Souvenirs, Novelties & Party Tricks XE”

Can you believe that today we drop our 17th Xtended Edition release? Word… this time around we introduce blocSonic listeners to the completely unique and dope sounds of Regenerated Headpiece (or RHP).

So who are RHP? Well, they’re a hip-hop hybrid musical outfit that I first discovered while doing work for SLAMjamz back in the early 00s. As the story goes with a couple other blocSonic artists that you’ve come to know… I designed covers for a few of their digital releases. When I first heard them I was immediately impressed by their sound. It’s one that’s really hard to pin down because it’s so unique to them. However, their story goes back a little further. They first burst onto New York City’s live music scene in the late 1990s and have been compared to recording artists ranging from A Tribe Called Quest to “Weird” Al Yankovic. Their core members are producer/MC Phon-X (a.k.a. Headsnack), lyricist Shred Lexicon, and DJ Exfyl. Other members of the Regenerated Headpiece family include DJ Sykopath, producer/MC Old Yist, and various session musicians.

Souvenirs, Novelties & Party Tricks XE is a re-release of their collection of rarities that included remixes by RHP friends and fam. For our Xtended Edition we also brought on blocSonic fam to remix a few joints! RHP also added a couple extra bonus cuts to make this a 3 Disc set!

The collaboraters involved in this project are extensive… musicians, producers, DJs & singers… the RHP extended fam include… Allison Breunig, Bass Killah, Brash, DJ Mockstar, Don Q, ICBM, ILLUS, MenAnt, Milkdrop, Phashara, Phon Juan, Rich Lupes, Slim Waites, Sneaky Pete, Steve “SG the Producer” Garcia, Taylor Jordan & Venomous 2000. If that’s not enough… blocSonic fam also represented… C-Doc, Cutside, Donnie Ozone, dustmotes, The Impossebulls, mGee, Mported Flows & Pot-C!

A very special thanks to Headsnack, Shred Lexicon and DJ Exfyl for being part of what blocSonic does. I’ve long been a fan and am thrilled to have you guys on board… welcome to the blocSonic fam! Mega thanks also goes out to everyone involved!

Ant The Symbol – You Are Here: Midnight

[BSMX0148]

Ant The Symbol

“You Are Here: Midnight”

Back in September we released an amazing EP by Ant The Symbol called You Are Here: Downtown (if you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure you do). Well, it turns out that that EP was the first in a series and today we’ve got the second installment, You Are Here: Midnight!

While listening, it becomes clear why these EPs are part of the same series. There’s a certain sonic character to them that reveals a music artist whose sound is maturing. There’s also a sense of a certain deterministic experimentation.

Whether you’ve heard Ant’s music before or not, be sure that you check it out now. What he’s creating these days is something really special.

Yo, Ant… you did it again… I think you’re channeling greater forces! Simply incredible.

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Cheese N Pot TA2MI Presents_ Cheese N Pot-C

[BSMX0145]

Cheese N Pot-C

“TA2MI Presents_ Cheese N Pot-C”

Hey kids… do you like beats and rhymes? Are you ready for some dope new music? Well we’ve got a treat for you today! We’ve got a brand new EP by those crazy Japan-based Canadians Cheese N Pot-C. It’s not an ordinary CNP EP… either. This one features the incredible beats of Jodo Shinshuu Buddhist monk / DJ / Producer / beatboxer… TA2MI. That’s right, a Buddhist monk who can rock those funky beats.

CNP and TA2MI go back to 2001 when a mutual friend introduced them. In 2011, TA2MI was featured in the documentary KanZeOn and is now set to launch his whirlwind interview and show tour. Today’s release is a taste of a full-length project that’s set to drop in 2017.

A very special thank you goes out to TA2MI, HighSnow, Long John & Cheese N Pot-C for this dope new EP! I look forward to the LP next year!

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Ant The Symbol – You Are Here: Downtown

[BSMX0141]

Ant The Symbol

“You Are Here: Downtown”

Back at the end of August, Ant The Symbol sent me a few new songs to check out. I downloaded them and listened… like, whoa! I instantly felt that the seven songs I was listening to were the most inspired that he’d created thus far, as The Symbol. Of course I had to release them, so that you can enjoy, too.

With You Are Here: Downtown Ant manages to take his downtempo sound into new territory. In doing so, he has moments that reminds you of Aphex Twin and others that could be what Art of Noise would sound like if they tried to make music like him. Moments of humor, adventure, bliss and beauty all come together in an immediate and addictive set. IMO, he’s hit the nail on the head… HIS sound has been defined… maybe he’ll surprise us with more goodies in the coming months? I sure hope so. In the meantime, enjoy this EP. Wear out your hard-drives, playing it.

Please Ant, don’t hurt ’em! Jeebus, man… this was an ill surprise. I think the kids are gonna dig it.

Bainmass – Winter Ep

[IYE16]

Bainmass

“Winter Ep “

The beat teacher is back, an electronic craftsman with a different from the previous ep always on In Your Ears. Carmine aka Bainmass uses fewer samples but always produces powerful things, phrasing of beats that will make us move happy. None voice is needed on these rhythms, so they are beautiful. A different vortex from the first, but always sweet, less electronic, but hot as ever, because in Bainmass sun and rapadopa never fail.

The Impossebulls – Five By Five I: Wrath

[BSMX0139]

The Impossebulls

“Five By Five I: Wrath”

Today I’m so psyched to present to you Five By Five I: Wrath, the first of five new EPs that The Impossebulls will be dropping from now until December!

After the release of Everything Has Changed; Nothing Is Different, the Bulls originally intented on creating a series of five EPs, each with five songs, but that eventually evolved into a new album and the five EPs! Thus began the idea of a six month release schedule! So Bulls fans… get ready… more dopeness to come! What… you’re just discovering the Bulls? Well, dig… check this out and then check out their back catalog.

Many thanks goes out to The Impossebulls for continuing to bring that classic hip-hop in this era of mumble “rappers”, trappers and twerkers. Perhaps some day boom bap will once again be considered hot. Davy J… I hope that your generation can rectify the situation… your dad is doing a good job teaching you… perhaps other dads are teaching their youth, as well. Word.

The Impossebulls – The Devils You Know

[BSOG0057]

The Impossebulls

“The Devils You Know”

Today The Impossebulls return with their first album of all new material since 2014’s impressive “Everything Has Changed; Nothing Is Different”! The new album, “The Devils You Know” is another dope selection of joints that simultaneously take you back to that classic boom bap sound, while also remaining fresh and new.

As with the previous album, The Bulls enlist a little help from good friends and legends… the most notable of which is one of the founding members of the great Stetsasonic and one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop… Daddy-O! Of course that’s not all… the great Kyle Jason lends his voice to the album… as does the talented Anime Oscen. Last, but surely not least… our own The Honorable Sleaze drops a verse!

This dope new album isn’t all, though… in the coming five months, The Bulls are dropping the 5×5 series of EPs. One each month featuring more new music! Also, very soon, fans will be able to purchase “Devil’s Work”… a limited edition box set containing the album and all five EPs, so fans don’t have to wait to get all that fresh music into their ears! We’ll let you know when that becomes available. For now… we hope you enjoy the new album.

A very sincere thank you to The Impossebulls and all collaborators for delivering yet another underground / independent / netlabel hip-hop classic. Sleepers will sleep… those who are woke will hear it. blocSonic’s going to continue to wake ’em. Word.
