Initially, I intended to revive a series of experimental recordings, which I use as a kind of training ground, and complete the series planned back in the late 00’s – Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst. Amber was supposed to be the last one, but never showed up. This track was conceived as its starting point, and was recorded this spring, but due to lack of my time and health problems, there was no follow-up.
Maybe something will change in the future, but for now it will remain a single.

René Muñoz Córdova delves into the confines of acousmatic and spectralism to create a work that not only breaks but transcends the parameters of the avant-garde. Far from traditional constraints, Kénosis embraces spectralism in its most radical form, breaking down sound into its purest components: frequencies, timbres, and textures that vibrate like living entities. Field recordings—perhaps fragments of resonant metal, environmental whispers, or disfigured electronic pulses—dissolve into a canvas of drones and glitches that seem to emerge from the ether. These sound layers do not seek to comfort, but to confront, inviting the listener to inhabit a space where noise is poetry and silence, an act of rebellion. The work challenges the expectations of conventional sound art by rejecting any concession to accessibility. Instead of predictable structures, Muñoz Córdova constructs an auditory universe where sounds stretch, collapse, and reappear in unpredictable configurations, evoking the fluidity of time and the dissolution of the ego. His avant-garde approach manifests in extreme digital manipulation, where each pulse or sound spark seems to question the very definition of music. The echoes of spectralism, brought to a viscerally personal terrain, resonate in the way harmonics intertwine, creating an experience that is as physical as it is metaphysical.
Kénosis is not an album to consume, but to experience. It is a challenge to conventions, a break with the complacency of the experimental genre that often falls into clichés. With a meticulous production that fuses the organic and the synthetic, Muñoz Córdova invites the bold to immerse themselves with headphones in a sound cosmos where the rules do not exist and the act of listening becomes a revolutionary gesture. This work is a testament to absolute freedom: a portal to the unknown that redefines what sound art can be.

The name, which was chosen not without awareness of the threat of vulgarity, is meant with honesty and, in a sense, generosity. Apparently, the term has been accepted in the psychological community to mean an extremely confusing or disturbing experience. Here, it is an offer to explore that state and come to accept it and enjoy it. The listener is a silent participant welcomed to re-examine what is considered pleasurable, what is fun, and what constitutes balance and structure.
Piano, bass, and electronics co-mix here to create a calm discourse that examines more than it asks or tries to answer. Those expecting to be jarred or unsettled may find the peaceful serendipity of M!ndf*kc disconcerting. Clear lines and pure sounds turn and twist as though obstructions do not exist. The development from climax to anti-climax, from stasis to passage, seems like the inevitable result of either careful planning or sheer faith in probability. After attentively navigating, without judgment, the connections along the way, finding sense and meaning in the upset of stability is where the music finishes. (Edward Reardon)

The reference to Torakusu Yamaha in the title is a nod to how the creation of the piece involved original methods of playing (ie: “hacking”) a Yamaha VSS-30 Sampler/Synthesizer (Torakusu was the 19th Century founder of Yamaha technologies). The piece was later renamed and included in Goff’s “Calumet” collection, released by Taped Rugs in early 2024.
Tracks 1, 4, 6, and 10 have never previously been released by any label, including Taped Rugs.

22 years later: the desire is still there with the musicians, the skills are there as well. Much more equipment has moved into the houses and and studios. The software is paid for, the incentives or new life contents are numerous. The musical styles have somehow changed. But the desire to express ourselves, to express ourselves in our cosmos still exists.
The first issue delves into more serious electronics. Included old friends, but also musicians that we have not yet not yet heard on Phonocake.

This work, consisting of only two tracks and it’s the third in the series titled “Solo” In this album, Nonoyama explores the sonic possibilities of free improvisation, playing drums, piano, and percussion.
“Solo 3” reflects her intimate and experimental approach, which is a hallmark of her musical journey.
An album that offers a unique auditory experience, combining elements of free jazz and sound art, and stands out as an authentic expression of Nonoyama’s creativity.
