about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Hello, I have made a few changes to the site. Unfortunately, I am not quite finished yet, but it should continue without interruption. I hope you find the changes useful. Stay tuned. Konrad

This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.

Coletivo NSLO – Sururus Perdidos

Coletivo NSLO

“Sururus Perdidos”

Sururus Perdidos presents instrumental compositions by Heitor Oliveira, performed by Dario Rodrigues Silva (piano), Gina Arantxa Arbeláez (flute), Renan Simões and Sabrina Souza (guitars). With significant independent artistic and academic trajectories, the musicians join forces for a collaborative endeavour that result in a series of phonographic releases, of which Sururus Perdidos is the second.

Sururus Perdidos presents three pieces from the authorial repertoire of the Collective NSLO. The duet Novos sururus and quiprocós de um convescote chumbrega contain fragmented narratives: a game that flutist and pianist build from collections of more or less obsolete materials. The duet Tudo é perdido quando o desejo fica repartido, for a couple of guitarists, sonically stages the drama of ambition and its consequences. In Desfotografia, structured improvisation for a quartet, it goes like this: “you remember and then… more

Coletivo NSLO brings together a group of musical creators and performers who reside in different regions of Brazil. The letters of the acronym mean north, south, east and west and represent the diversity of where the musicians come from: Palmas (Tocantins), Caçapava (São Paulo), Cali (Colombia) and Mossoró (Rio Grande do Norte).

The genesis of the group took place at the post-graduate program in Music at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where all the musicians did or are doing their doctorates. The group came together due to personal and artistic affinities that culminated in the sponsorship by Rumos Itaú Cultural of a two-year project to create a new repertoire. To do this the group carry out activities open to the public, in recitals, workshops, round tables, among others, as well as experimentation, rehearsal and production within the collective. The artistic goal was the gradual creation of an original repertoire based on interaction, expressive potential and experiences shared by musicians.

Through a project selected by the Rumos Itaú Cultural 2017-2018 program, between November 2018 and February 2020 Coletivo NSLO performed at various locations in Brazil and Colombia. The repertoire of the group was built and refined during these trips. In 2020, the sponsorship of Banco da Amazônia made phonographic and audiovisual production viable

Chango Dada – Trimate

Chango Dada – Trimate
[pn186]

Chango Dada

“Trimate”

Eclectic is the delivery of Chango Dadá for Pueblo Nuevo. Divided into three tracks, the album “Trimate” navigates between affable aspects and other mysterious or even rough to some extent. The opening track, with a textural nature, threads the sounds and gestures in a cinematic way, moving between electroacoustic textures and instrumental motifs of piano and clarinet among others. On the other hand, on the second track, there are materials close to an ‘indietronica’, where the language is based on the tonal and melodic keyboards. The final track returns to constant rhythms through shapes and colours close to an IDM where voices and colors are superimposed, sometimes from connotative sounds and others from more abstract textures: here the field recordings play a timbristic and sign role, especially the voices and the semantic content presented.

Secret Archives of the Vatican

“Carve The Runes”

In these tracks, we explore iron age and pre medieval history and mythologies, using mostly real or sampled medieval and Viking era acoustic instruments.

We have used drones and repetition often in our music but here we’ve dug deeper, working to attain a ritualistic feel to some of the tracks. We’ve been listening to artists such as Heilung, Wardruna and Danheim, and we’ve tried to capture some of that epic primal feel, particularly with our percussion.

PLEASE NOTE: Each track has its own artwork and each has a video. We have many more videos on YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/brokendrumrecords

Jose Miguel Candela – Hombres en Círculo Durante el Hechizo del Tiempo

Jose Miguel Candela – Hombres en Círculo Durante el Hechizo del Tiempo
[pn185]

Jose Miguel Candela

“Hombres en Círculo Durante el Hechizo del Tiempo”

I composed “Hombres en Círculo Durante el Hechizo del Tiempo” (Men in a Circle During the Spell of Time) in 1998 for the choreography and video-dance homonyms of «La Vitrina» dance company (Chile). This scenic creation sought to pay tribute to the ancient cultures of the extreme south of America (Aonikenk, Yamana, Selk’nam, Alakaluf), claiming and valuing their heritage through a reinterpretation from contemporary dance. In other words, it was not a representational rescue of the possible original Fuegian dances, but rather a western and contemporary «artifact». Thus, it also tried to testify through its artistic materiality on the extermination policy to which Chile subjected these cultures.

Today, 23 years after its composition, I present this music for the first time on a disc, thus adding a new volume to the “Greatest Dance Hits Collection”, a series of publications that compiles the music that I have composed for contemporary dance during the latter 25 years.

The music was made for 1 and 2 string quartets, with eventual sound interventions and electronic processes, and also with a delicate treatment of its internal space. I worked for its creation with different shamanic songs used by Lola Kiepja (last Selk’nam shaman) and recorded by the Canadian anthropologist Anne Chapman in Tierra del Fuego. In this way, both, I made variations of these songs and re-constructions “in style”, imitating their rhythmic and melodic characteristics. All this in a minimalist context and with free development.

Although the choreographic work claimed to have four parts (“La ausencia, la fragmentación”, “La muerte muerde silenciosa la carne”, “La vida: la recolección – la caza”, and “El rito”), for this album I decided to propose more divisions, to be faithful to the musical structure (a structure that was related to choreography in an interdependent way). In any case, I indicate in the name of the track to which part of the choreographic work each of the 9 tracks on this album belongs.

[pnmxt006]

Gerardo Figueroa Rodriguez

“6×216 Mixtape”

“…6×216 is the living proof that process art does not always materialize in a snevering result. Au contraire, the auteur’s mathematical methodology for interpolating material is based on sound quality care. It is this feature that makes Christian Marclay’s experiments and Grandmaster Flash technique valuable. Process shapes music, but it is Figueroa’s approach which, in this case, leads to a sound acrostic hidden in more than a decade of Chilean electronic music…”

“…The interesting thing here is the musical coherence behind this frantic, dense journey. Electroacoustic music, noise, field recordings, musique concrète, and dance music coexist, showing both an evident fragmentation and an elegant integration. It invites the receiver to an attentive state, ears opened, grabbing details, recognizing – or making believe to – samples, separating and connecting sounds, thus going through Pueblo Nuevo catalog.

“The mixtape presents a panoramic picture of the freedom the netlabel has made its catalog with: crossing over genres, grassroots and academy alike, well-known and rookies, embedded in Pueblo Nuevo’s DNA – all of which this mixtape unveils…”

Osvaldo Sotomayor Rojo
(Santiago, Chile. Abril / April 2021)

“… Is it possible to condense 15 years of Pueblo Nuevo history into just three and a half minutes of music? Like a magician who generously teaches his tricks, the liner notes provide interesting details of how the auteur accomplished this feat, exhaustively explaining the methodology used, demonstrating a rigorously intellectual planning and, yet, suggesting an openness and willingness to let “chance” freely and spontaneously intervene in the work unfolding. What at first glance seems an obvious contradiction between intellect and intuition, turns into a perfect mind and heart balance, leading me to think that chance, as such, does not exist in any life experience, but facts happen in a true becoming of synchronicity, where, on a deeper level, everything is connected in some invisible but clearly palpable way. This willingness in turn allowed Gerardo Figueroa Rodríguez to establish a working method which, consciously and unconsciously, left room for the work itself to portray its making patterns, becoming an instrument or channel, instead of standing as a creator in full force. Thus, Figueroa seeks to minimize his personal bias: trying to step aside, almost invisible. Even then, adopting this very attitude constitutes an inescapable hallmark, typical of any author, giving this mixtape itself the category of auteurial, musical work…”

Can’t help seeing images from Blade Runner. Deckard tiredly gazing at the score on his piano. Roy and Pris in the Bradbury Building. It’s but one evocation though, and Mauk Tenieb’s album is lush with them. Murky bars some decades from now, where robot pets scurry around rugged looking patrons. The sand haze in the Texan desert where, just like that, William Burroughs might appear to you in a dream to let you know that… We’ll let you find out for yourself. In the meantime, you can listen to lots of 20kbps, which now has Mauk Tenieb’s new album Esiön. All in one track, because it’s best taken in as a whole.

Jose Miguel Candela – Chacabuco

Jose Miguel Candela – Chacabuco
[pn184]

Jose Miguel Candela

“Chacabuco”

The first edition of “Chacabuco” (in cassette format) was in 1996. In this the music composed for the choreography and video-dance * homonyms of the La Vitrina dance company (Chile), where the experience was rescued of the bodies that suffered the Chacabuco saltpeter mine works as an economic prison (in times of the nitrate boom) and as a concentration camp (during the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile). This music was not only my first of many collaborations with this artistic collective, but it was also my first composition for contemporary dance, an artistic field to which I have dedicated my musical life ever since. Today, 25 years after its composition and editing, I present this music again, remastered for its virtual disk format, to share this piece of history with new generations.

With this album, we also inaugurated, always with Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel‘s unconditional support, the “Greatest Dance Hits Collection”. This series of publications will attempt to compile the music that I have composed for contemporary dance during the last 25 years.

All work was composed, sequenced, and mixed on the Ensoniq TS-12 workstation. Much of the sounds of “Chacabuco” were recorded directly there and then sampled for use in this workstation.

In the text of the original 1996 cassette, it noted the following:

Being in Chacabuco is not an experience that is easily forgotten: all that strength contained in each of its machines (“cachuchos”), in its streets and houses destroyed by deaf sounds, in its land (crunchy by the saltpeter), and in its evening wind (a great shaker of unclamped roofs) leaves a mark, an invisible (but powerful) mark, in the last emotional corners of those who visit it. I hope that these intangible impressions are somehow reflected in this composition.

The resulting language of “Chacabuco” would not have been possible without my previous “Give me a Loop”, a personal project born in May 1996. “Give me a Loop” reflects my search for intimate corporal rhythms (search for a corporal ritual), and therefore of a musical language according to this search. From another point of view, the loop (the repetitive cycle and in this case, the micro-cycle) is found as an independent life; in its spatial movement, and at the same time trapped in its limitations; releasing itself through repetition, but dying out to make way for new cycles.

Finally, “Las huellas del Pequeño Venado” (“The Little Deer Traces”) (completed in December 1996), is also inserted within this language. The Huichol shamans, in one of their sacred rites, manage to see these footprints of the little deer (magical animal), the one that will lead them to the first peyote. For this reason, it is the beginning of the journey to the unknown.

(*) “Chacabuco – eslabón en la memoria” is the first video-dance in the history of the genre in Chile.
