Some time a go, when I was digging in my graveyard to get rid of some bodies, I stumbled over some clay tablets with strange geometrical patterns on it. After much research I found out that they belong to the Sredni Stog Culture of the DDII settlements at the Dnieper valley and constitute the oldest musical notations known to archeology. Interestingly, they are a couple of centuries older than any known text so far.
I spent the last months deciphering the instructions to recreate the music of these pre-archaic indo-europeans using modern means of sound creation and processing. Of course we do not know what instruments they originally used to play these notations and which frequency correlates exactly to which note in the sheet – future research may shed some light on this topic; all I can do at this moment is to give you my subjective interpretation of these clay tablets.

New perspective of things can be found by raising ourselves. From a terrace, a peak or imaginary places we seek contemplation as it is our creative nutrient. Unsettling times must be confronted on the sidewalk of music production. As citizens of the world we are being witnesses of agitation related to climate change, to a rearrangement of political forces and to socioeconomic inequity among a variety of intertwined elements that cause reflection. It is a complex scenario that leads forces of similar pulsation and that seems to motivate the efforts behind the sharp response in this fifth compilation of Modismo. This compilation joins multinational talents in a wide range of styles, and as a proof of clean intentions it releases music of such depth and quality available for free. A gesture of caring kindness unites these 21 musical statements in which humanity and the plotted electro-mutant sounds dance as a reflection of upcoming storms. The overflowed pessimism, the industrial protest, the revolutionary dance and the questiong of forms have a natural room in one of the most ambitious works created by this label. For its constant commitment with risk and quality this new compilation of Modismo can be considerated as a compulsory stop at the moment of photograph the state of arts in the contemporary electronic music.
“Après avoir été refusé par le label 1 EP par jour Records, cet EP se retrouve sur Linge, le label qui accepte toutes les merdes du monde. C’est moitié impro au synthé moitié techno bizarre. C’est sympa”
It is with great pleasure and eagerness that Recycled Plastics is able to introduce the listening world to Demi Odessa, a talented young man who has managed to create one of the best Summer albums we’ve ever heard. BODY MEMORY is notable not only because it is the first RP release to feature vocals, but because it embodies a beautiful confluence of youthful melancholy, seasonal playfulness, lo-fi charm and incredibly measured restraint. Elements of Demi Odessa can be traced all over the place, from warm tape-decked house music to minimal techno, from 1990’s trip hop records to classical synthpop – it’s all present, natural and unforced. Body Memory sounds easy, accessible and plays to both down and up moods at all the right points, still never letting the curtain pull back so much that we ever get a clear picture of the person behind it.
Keen listeners note: The limited edition CD-R comes with a disc-exclusive bonus track – a Milieu remix of “Don’t” that displaces Odessa’s lonesome vocals into a SAW 85-92 pool of bittersweetness for night-time cough syrup relaxation…

MalLabel Music is serving it up piping hot and fresh this week, as Denver, Colorado’s Taco Truck slathers the bass in hot sauce and delivers ‘Flour Power’.
Taco Truck is a passion fueled project through and through. With tounge-in-cheek humour behind the brand and serious skills behind the decks, this MalLabel debut is bound to become an instant darling among producers and fans alike.
Taco Truck is dripping with booms & claps, snaps and genre bridging gaps. Smattered with sassy samples ‘Flour Power’ takes low end sentiments and weaves them through footwork, DNB and even a scattering of light house before dropping us off in a classic, glitchy, grimey and deliciously deep place. His ability to weave in highly technical patterning with quirky, girthy drops shows a skill set not to be underestimated.
Taco Truck takes some big, risky bites with ‘Flour Power’ and the result is f’ing delicious. Letting the creator speak for himself, “Like a perfect mountain of street meat, we enjoy songs that are both playful and gritty.”
ARDIKO is quiet, unobtrusive and motivational music, enabling the listener to dream, to think, to dive into his thoughts and at the same time, not to stop and to move forward. The release was easy, beautiful and melodic, ready to inspire and lift the spirits.
Rough distorted rhythms and hazy melodies. A combination of raw machine jams and jagged textures of lo-fi pads. Fuzzy aesthetics built by field recordings, samples and personal memories. In his debut on sonic moiré nnls musically refers to streets of his home in Italy. Every track is a musical quote of a drive or journey, every title a reference to an existing road. A musical cartography of the artists environment. This piece portrays a persons connection to its environment and its paths, which is captured in the title of the album.
This album is also available as a limited, elaborate tape version and includes a mirroreffect packaging, booklet, download code, bonus tracks and a sticker.
“Lampooni” is the debut EP by Hana Sent, our novel ghost electronic music composer. The release drives you through six sweet sketches of faint colors; crayon paints describing a candid and sunny world, not without some nostalgic and spellbound aftertastes. Some melodies recall the works by Conrad Schnitzler for the playful approach to electronic composition. “Lampoooni” alludes to an imaginary retro-gaming, dreamy sounds and candy worlds, mixed with casual acid trippy-house sometimes recalling the late eighties. A very fresh release by 51beats to celebrate the incoming spring season.
J4ck Sh4rk open their wings and display the array of sounds that interests them. Tracks that show weight, such as “Longest Road” and “Blind”, and others have elegance and subtlety, such as “Preta Pretinha” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”. 2011 was the peak of sonic expansion and exploration.
If we talk about versatile electronic music, “Violet Taste” EP by Gassman has all those characteristics that makes it stand out; from its elaboration to its rythmic treatment, its bass lines, melodies, and voice and synthesizer samples. It’s such an intriguing trip with diverse nuances and hidden places that we can travel to different times from one moment to another. We swing in a multiple galaxy taken by the hand of a very accomplished producer. He openly challenges us to follow him in his musical path. As a whole, we hope to leave our referente to contribute to a scene already installed, one that the lovers of a good underground sound will know how to appreciate.
“Anthology ’10: Learning To House” represents the first movement to encounter in a nearby place. It would take longer to know and be certain of what’s being pursued. But it’s already possible to notice some elements that will be re-thought e refined in the coming years.
Nothing could better define this collection of tracks than “Early Years”. The first experimentations and works from J4ck Sh4rk show their electronic music foundations since the beginning and demonstrate that their sound will always be eclectic.
