about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

tourmaline hum – choreography

tourmaline hum – choreography

tourmaline hum

“choreography”

The history of The Committee For Sonic Research is entwined with the band tourmaline hum and its precursors. So when in 2014 TCFSR was resurrected in digital form the first thing that we did was to release material that tourmaline hum had self released in our absence.
This included three of four albums, however for some reason their first album, choreography, was omitted.
Thinking back no one can remember why!

The tenth anniversary of TCFSR on Bandcamp seems a good time to correct this oversight.

Vanishing – Corridor Vanishing Corridor

Vanishing – Corridor Vanishing Corridor

Vanishing

“Corridor Vanishing Corridor”

Vanishing Corridor is the synthesis of American sound experimenters Kingo Sleemer (Western Maryland) and Chris Campbell (St. Paul, Minnesota).

Campbell has been recording dark ambient/sound collage/field-recorded soundscapes as The Creeping Man since 2017, both as self-releases and on various labels (Hrea’m Recordings, Mono Time, Dub Cthonic, Veinte 33, Preston Capes Tapes, Wormhole World, and Shady Ridge Records), most recently finding inspiration via collaborations with like-minded artists.

Kingo has been part of the experimental music collective Halaka since the late 90s, with whom he’s recorded and released many albums in many formats; he has recently recorded and released music as Allele Cog Experiment, HOZ and Experimental College. He is also a co-founder of Pile Records.

The two share an affinity for the absurd, the obtuse, and the off-kilter.

Vanishing Corridor started as a back-and-forth exercise of sound sharing and manipulation, without preconceived themes or intentions.

The project debuts on February 18, 2024 on Mahorka with a beautiful self-titled cassette release.

What are we if not the accumulation of our decisions? Illusory though it may be, our will is our being, and our choices become our identity. Take care when making up your mind, as making things up is sometimes all too easy.

Takashi Kusano – Computer Music Self Portrait 2

Takashi Kusano

“Computer Music Self Portrait 2”

I like techno and I make music. This is the calling card of Takashi Kusano, the new member to join the MiMi Records family.

The delicacy and musicality of this phrase are evident in his musical productions.

Computer Music Self Portrait 2 is an interesting record that revolves around elegant variations of electronic music, as well as an excellent musical portrait of Kusano.

‘Believe’, the opening, is the most environmental track on this 5-track album. A hypnotic theme with multiple layers of synth pads.

Other highlights: ‘Frontier’, a melodic and minimalist slow-tempo slow-techno track that unfolds over 7 minutes. Or ‘Fragmentary impromptu’, one track that shows the artist’s versatility in other electronics.

Without a doubt an album to discover!

Various Artists

“Latent Sonorities”

What might the latent sonorities of ‘traditional’ instruments sound like if their tunings were unlocked for different modernities? Where might the diasporas of trans-Asian sonics intersect and rematriate?

Recorded on September 15th and 16th, 2023 this album features new compositions and semi-improvised work from 8 trans-Asian artists exploring southeast Asian tonalities using traditional instruments, digitized tunings, and sampled recordings.

Thanks to cooperation with Haus der Indonesichen Kulturen – Rumah Budaya Indonesia – Berlin (RBI), select instruments from their Javanese gamelan ensemble were sampled to create Berlin’s first publicly accessible sonic archive of Indonesian instruments and temperaments for electronic musicians.

Following the creation of the sample pack and tuning files, a short residency, open studio, and final performance series of new work using the materials was produced in collaboration with Morphine Raum.

Included with this album download is a PDF booklet where you can get historical background on the instruments and read interviews with stewards, artists, and researchers involved in this project.

The companion site at https://www.latentsonorities.org hosts the sample pack and tuning files recorded and developed by Bilawa Ade Respati and Khyam Allami, an Ableton Live Pack with custom Ableton Instruments by Morgan Sully and Khyam, a Native Instruments Kontact Library, as well as other resources for artists and researchers curious to expand their gamelanic palette.

This open archive has already provoked and stimulated public discourse around the complexities and nuances of musical rematriation, trans-Asian identity, and its political expression through non-Western temperament and tonality.

We hope it serves as a starting point for future exploration of musical cosmologies you may be curious about, a recentering beyond what is sonically inculcated.

This project is co-funded by Musikfonds e.V., Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien/The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media and supported by the National Arts Council of Singapore.

“Layers”

This album is filled with warm, imaginary soundscapes.
Evocative pieces invite the listener to escape from daily routine.
Delicate tension, electroacoustic passages, and viscous-like zephyr ambient substrates are arranged into raw, glitchy, electronics.
Music is meant to achieve transcendence, far from any conventions and statements.

“Decayed”

For Room of Wires, this is still the beginning, always eager to explore new ground, even after 10 years. Here, they invite some of their past allies to re-work a few highlights from the last decade, as well as a couple of re-workings from themselves.

It felt right that this release should go out on S27, the label that helped start their journey.

So, here’s to the next decade, whatever it may bring. For now, enjoy Decayed – a hard-hitting celebration of isolation and collaboration.

“2022”

“2022”, the latest album from sternenspringer, marks the 20th anniversary of this multi-talented duo, a milestone that not only commemorates their past achievements, but also anticipates the future directions of their musical exploration.

but it is also a reflective endeavour in which gerd and jürgen present the essence of their artistic partnership and explore the dynamics that have defined their creative process over the years. “2022” is a testament to the duo’s ability to fuse their distinctive influences into a harmonious and compelling listening experience. and it documents their journey through the changes of the past two decades.

the year 2022 is representative of all the challenges and achievements they and we have gone through. this year serves as a canvas that encapsulates moments of turbulence and triumph both on a global scale and in everyone’s personal lives, inviting the listeners to immerse themselves in this narrative that is as introspective as it is expansive.
