about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

“Spettro Audio Collectif”

“Just when I thought that Spettro had been a failure all along, after 11 years during which I only grew grey hair and haven’t achieved anything worth mentioning, I realise how important this “small place for unconventional music” has been in my life and has shaped my identity, my friendships, my life project. A life project that will pay absolutely zero in terms of monetary gain, but which has gifted me with a community and a network of people who I have the privilege of calling friends before anything else. And this network has not only benefitted me, it has indeed grown bigger, tighter, sometimes breaking apart then tying even stronger knots, spanning over 11 years now, across countries, beyond borders, generations, culture, race and gender. Spettro has brought people together, firstly thanks to a shared passion for sharing unconventional music, but most importantly as equals.

Looking back at this project, the oldest record of it I can find on my hard drive right now dates back to March 15th, 2020, but the origins of that file, a simple looping hypnotic beat by Luca, go way back, years if not decades. He had shared it with me just days before the pandemic hit. It had been sitting on his hard drive for years and decided to send it to me to see if I could do anything with it. Then by February 23rd 2020 all activities deemed unnecessary by the government had been shut down, as was Ikigai Room, where Spettro was based. March 1st saw several Northern regions falling into a red zone and by the 9th all Italy was under lockdown. Soon after most of the rest of the world would follow. By March 15th that long forgotten drum loop had been finally edited by someone else. We then decided to start a simple project where friends would contribute to someone’s sounds by simply adding layers. Not editing or manipulating each other’s contributions, but just adding to them.

I started thinking about the people I could involve, most of whom were forced to stay home like everybody else. But this was not a project born out of boredom, but from the shared urge of doing something instead of wasting away in front of screens. It felt necessary, it went beyond the pandemic, beyond borders we couldn’t have otherwise crossed, as time and place didn’t matter anymore, neither here nor there, under this siege or not: we were doing something together. Regardless.

Omar (First Catatonic Ensemble, River of No), who originally introduced Luca (A Distant Shore, Oracle, Tiny Drones for Lovers) and me, was the first to get involved, then Angelo (Filtro, Billy Torello, The Great Saunites), a good friend and Spettro contributor and amazing musician. Akis from Kοκκαλα with his uncanny and sardonic haunting imagery. John Duncan, who needs no introductions and was ready to help. Elvio (Bisso, Las Laplaciens, Shiroi Noizu, Dir Richter), with a sweet glimpse of his life in Osaka, enriched by the sounds of Naoki, who I had shared a stage with 14 years ago in Tokyo, where I also met Toshihiro (Circe) whose wonderful music I will never forget. Ghobi would provide few majestic notes, River of No contribute with an extract from a track that never was, until now, Giulia (SorHe) and Martina add nuances we would have never been able to otherwise understand.

The project was completed on March 1st: a whole year had passed in which little or nothing had changed, just more sorrow, misery, anger and despair. Endless streams of music and writings being published during and about the pandemic. The pandemic as a transformative experience. But this is not a pandemic album, even if it is, nor was it transformative for us, as the friendships and collaborations helped by Spettro had been there all along, growing stronger during these 11 long years which I had at times given for wasted. This work proves otherwise. It tells a different story, a story of joy in the mist of sorrow.”

Dj Malaït

“Everything’s Right / Wrong”

Dj Malaït is a Russian producer based in Barcelona. Better known as ZebaKnizel for his work in the offline meeting point collective, where he releases most of his tracks.

He has performed (and still does) alongside several bands of different genres, but his interest in electronic music grew a lot in the last two years and currently he’s fascinated with experimenting and mixing different patterns and genres. His style is influenced by IDM artists, poly rhythms, and wandering harmonies.

This particular release was created with the intention of mixing all sorts of latin percussion vibes, adding some more electronic elements, and some rhythm complications that might make the listener count each beat before dancing confidently.

Nicolas Tourney – Music for Piano

Nicolas Tourney – Music for Piano
[Eg0_251]

Nicolas Tourney

“Music for Piano”

Nicolas Tourney is a french experimental musician and sound designer, also owner of the label Snow in Water Records. His new album Music for Piano focuses on the acoustic properties of the instrument used in various ways in order to generate rich and subtle resonances. But the artist himself says it more precisely :

“Entirely recorded in the hours of the night, in order to capture very low amplitude sounds that neighboring noises would have made imperceptible, the twelve configurations of Music for Piano reflect research on vibration. The piano used is a late 19th century German grand piano, allowing, when it is wide open, all kinds of placements, preparations, rebounds. Some drones evolved continuously for several days in a row, in order to see the gradual emergence of new timbres produced by the microscopic movements of objects inside the piano. By releasing a resonance rather than a note, the pressure of the keys then opening a void, other modes of play have required tools with a roundabout function and instruments that our daily habits have made their own.”

“dark inner aspects of toddy drinking”

This is the second part of selected older works. “Dark inner aspects of toddy drinking” contains a collection of dark pieces that develop a suction effect due to their great density, at least if you listen to them appropriately loud or with headphones, and come from a phase of Svanns life that he only remembers darkly.

Ben Glas – Uhr / To Fade To

Ben Glas – Uhr / To Fade To
[zen231]

Ben Glas

“Uhr / To Fade To”

an ambient random sequence d.i.y. installation, inspired by Eno, Satie and the passage of time

Uhr / To Fade To is an experimentally experiential sound piece which questions the individual listener’s agency within the listening experience and preconceived expectations around the acts of active and passive listening. Comprised of 240 thirty-second triad sinetone drones, this album is to be downloaded and randomly shuffled in a player of one’s choice. The result is a seemingly endless array of tonal possibilities, a larger-than-human-life melody full of aleatoric twists and turns.

The impetus of this piece is to dig deeper into an inquiry that Erik Satie opened with the advent of his so called “Furniture Music” and which was later expanded upon by Brian Eno’s popularisation of “Ambient Music”. This is piece is to be played into an open space and to be forgotten about and returned to. As each track is precisely 30 seconds long, it acts as an abstracted clock. Listeners may drift from and to the space in which they choose to listen in. As the content of this album is made up completely of sinetones, the piece is inherently relativistic and allows listeners to move through the peaks and troughs of the waves.

“Invasive Species”

The 100th release on TCFSR Bandcamp is the 28th release by tourmaline hum, although it is five years since their last album ‘system Imperfect’ tcfsr.bandcamp.com/album/system-imperfect
During this time the duo of Lone Cosmonaut and Dental Drill have each created a number of solo releases and contributed to a variety of other projects (and Dental Drill has taken on the day to day running of the TCFSR label) so the tracks for ‘Invasive Species’ were created intermittently between 2017 and 2021. Nonetheless the album demonstrates a thematic consistency. The album has a darker edge than most of tourmaline hum’s previous work.

Pátí na světě

“Jupiter Carousel”

released June 1, 2021

This album about obscuration through aesthetics is based on a sentence that claims that people cannot use beauty to get to “the bottom part of the Earth”.

Originally a quartet, now a trio, Pátí na světě delve into the lands of sirup-covered strings sections.
They prune their way through these sticky thickets to more and more choruses that get so easily lost by the campfire.
Long before the pandemic, the lyrics to “Gulliver” included the term “deniers”, half-forgotten at the time, hackneyed and overused today.

The album’s message is the following: The world as we know it is breathtaking, even without beauty!

“untitled”

It’s in these days of Victorian winter and illness that a gift from long-term contributor and Genetic Trance head Surrogate Sigma (also vziel, Yerunda, Marasmatronics, …) has reached 20kbps. Sparse and austere, it soothes a mind oversaturated with meaning, myth, and metaphor, and instead presents the vastness and cold of a snow desert.

Jorge Cabieses-Valdes – Poemas de Porcelana

Jorge Cabieses-Valdes – Poemas de Porcelana
[pn188]

Jorge Cabieses-Valdes

“Poemas de Porcelana”

“Poemas de Porcelana” (“Porcelain Poems”) is the title of the album that brings together a selection of two performances realized within the context of the exhibition “De las Prácticas Cotidianas de Oposición” (“From Daily Practices of Opposition”) by Jorge Cabieses-Valdés in the D21 Art Projects (2020). In an individual exhibition the artist presented the works “Porcelanatron IV & V”, musical instruments constructed from pieces of glazed stoneware ceramics. Inspired by the acoustic potential that every piece of ceramic possesses, the instruments emit a sharp and crystalline sound that comes from the hollowness and hardness of their ceramic material.

For “Porcelanatron IV & V” the artist’s work is based on 14 vases from the Lota Ceramic Factory belonging to the Pedro Montes collection, typical of the domestic and ornamental environment. The ceramic pieces made by the artist try to imitate the appearance of these vases, failing irretrievably and presenting themselves in total deformation, thus forcing their rigid surfaces to vibrate and sing grotesquely.

This is not the first time that the artist has worked with the traditional ceramics of Lota. In 2018 he manipulated figures belonging to the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts (Orfeón, Lota) where each figure had a large-scale acoustic replica that emulated the sound percussed on the figures.

The album features the participation of the musician and producer Marcelo Peña Cortés aka MIOPEC (Tobías Alcayota, MKRNI), who plays viola and synthesizer arrangements and is also in charge of mixing and mastering the album.

“Lexicon Katapult”

Short, to-the-point electronic tracks exploring MIDI sound possibilities and pseudo-Vocoder abuse. Some electro beats appear here and there, simile-analog synth creeps everywhere, but mostly the focus is on the weird side of electronic music.
Spelled in German fashion for extra impact, the ‘Lexicon Katapult’ concept refers to recurring, abstract Vocoder utterances in the music as well as whimsical individual track titles—mostly actual English words plus French portmanteau words of my own design.
