“…¿Es posible condensar 15 años de historia de Pueblo Nuevo, en apenas tres minutos y medio de música? Tal como un mago que generosamente enseña sus trucos, en las propias notas de programa el autor entrega interesantes detalles de cómo logró dicha hazaña, explicando de manera exhaustiva la metodología utilizada, la cual demuestra una planificación rigurosamente intelectual y, sin embargo, sugiere una apertura y disposición a dejar que el “azar” intervenga de manera libre y espontánea en el desarrollo de la obra. Lo que a primeras luces pareciera ser una evidente contradicción entre intelecto e intuición, resulta más bien ser un perfecto equilibrio entre mente y corazón, lo cual me lleva a pensar en el hecho de que el azar, como tal, no existe en ninguna experiencia de vida, si no que en realidad los hechos se suceden en un devenir de sincronicidad, en donde, a un nivel más profundo, todo está conectado de alguna forma invisible pero claramente palpable. Viajamos hasta un lugar sin carteles, ningún cartel en el camino ni en los costados, sólo árboles y de vez en cuando un auto estrellado. Seguimos la señal hasta una montaña de ventiladores y ventanas. Trepamos como pudimos, algunos se quedaron abajo esperando. En la subida vimos un brazo de muñeca y algunos alacranes espiando. Vimos un cuchillo en un cuaderno y también vimos una sombra cantando. Ya caía el sol cuando llegamos a la cima y lo encontramos: tenía una luz verde titilando. Conectamos nuestros cuerpos al aparato y algunas voces se presentaron, una a una dijeron sus nombres y comenzaron a sonar. Pasamos la noche escuchando y a la mañana bajamos. Era un día festivo y decidimos festejarlo. Nos conectamos al resto y les contamos lo que habíamos escuchado. No eran los mismos sonidos, era nuestro tributo a esa cima oxidada y a ese camino y a ese día festivo. Volvimos caminando de noche y no paramos hasta ver un cartel. Pero seguíamos conectados en el camino y en la cima y en la música y sonando.

Five tracks that involve a different vision, a new way of relating to the world around us, based on the essence of everyday environments soundscaping.
Hence the title of the ep, Panorami Verticali, intended as a new interaction with the context, no longer ordinary but translated into a different dimension, perpendicular in this case, like the imaginary line that from the ground, passing through legs, reaches the head : the noises are rhythmically and harmonically autonomous, self-celebrating, free and dancing in the sound space and from the earth they rise to be recoded by the mind of the listener.
Disconnected from the normal cultural classification, sounds acquire an independent meaning, result of a different elaboration in each one, making the passive routine become presence and the ego, the individual, the listener, more than ever collective archetype, one with the sound context.
The sea (“Osservazione partecipata”), cars on the street, a train station, but also the sound of a gate and the empty garden of a school (“Troppe trame”), the interiors of a steel factory (“Basta che poi ci ricordiamo dove”), are the result of elaborate, dilated and intertwined field recording sessions, played with an ‘organic’ synth (Lyra 8, Soma), drones, tape loops and modified keyboards sequences.

Iliaque is a project of one of the co-founders of Ziklibrenbib (a French project to promote Creative Commons (CC) music in library) from Normandy (France). After having played in different noisy pop, industrial, electro and math rock groups, fascinated by netlabels and musicians working under CC, he decided to try his hand at an electronic music project based on CC material. The Iliaque project, that has matured for several years now, seeks to exploit the potentialities of CC music and explores this world through choice of sources and samples.

Iliaque’s debut on Mahorka brings back with a bang the “Mahorka Remixes” series, taking on tracks from the inspiring and wide catalog of the label in the six tracks of the release. It is as much a tribute to the creative commons netlabel as to the remixed artists.

Thierry Arnal, musician/composer/remixer based in Lyon, France, is an artist of several aliases and began his journey into music in 2006 and has released quite a few albums and EPs since, as well as a movie soundtrack, under the project names fragment., AMANTRA, SEPL, THA, 2W on various labels around the world, such as Justin Broadrick’s label Avalanche Recordings, Ohm Resistance, KVITNU, M-TRONIC, Thisco Records, Pharmafabrick and others. The SEPL (short for SCORCHED EARTH POLICY LAB) adventure started in 2018 in the need to experiment in new territories.

In March 2021 SEPL debuts on Mahorka with the specially prepared for the label “QUASAR_VARIATION”, a recording directly connected to and based on the compounds of his previously self-released “QUASAR” 4 track collection of virtual electronic instruments improvisation recordings..
