about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Soul Flask

“The Cassandra Complex”

“Basically the project came into being from the job I do. I work in the waste/recycling industry and have done for 3 years. When I first started I was absolutely mortified at how wasteful we are in this country and likely most of the developed world. There is so much food waste (tins, dried goods that get thrown away even though they are perfectly fine). I eat what I think is OKay. Me and others also find gold, silver, rolex watches etc. I found a bottle of whiskey valued at 1400 pounds. So i was seeing all this waste and then seeing homeless people in the street asking me for money. I would buy them a sandwich and a drink. I sank into a place of strange but thoughtful depression and anxiety. Then we had this idea that you could look inside a skip and come up with a quality band name. I came up with ‘Half eaten loaf’, The rotten carpets, Then I saw a broken thermos flask with all these old photos next to it. Peoples memories… Soul Flask just popped in my head. I then set about taking inspiration for a musical project with influences taken directly from rubbish. Some musical instruments and old vhs tapes provided a catalyst of at least creating a musical message to this madness.

The flask appeared empty, but it wasn’t. It triggered a thought.. That our bodies are vessels. Our Soul can either be damaged or enlightened throughout life. We boil down our whole life’s experience, knowledge and thought, then we carry forward that knowledge and information within ourselves. Within our Flasks, keeping that liquid warm. It’s important that when the liquid overflows out of our Flask, that it does so in a positive way. A helpful and responsible way that can only promote good, so as that other peoples flasks don’t get contaminated. It’s only by following that lifestyle that we can truly transform and then together, we can all go into the future.

With a clarity of soul.

Most tracks have a direct message to them. Usually just questioning our accepted culture as normal without challenging it. But when looking at the bigger picture of which society does its very best to hide. You can’t help but wonder just how long we can sustain ourselves like this. I mean, we all need things to survive. But when these things come to their expiry. We cannot just bury them in landfill. That behaviour is the equivalent to the whole of the human race burying its head in the sand.”

WHΛLTHISИEY

“Thisowned”

The music of WHΛLTHISИEY here is served with the usual tones of his ambient compositions, which, except for the exceptions, are generally piano based, accompanied by drone soundscapes, which in this Mahorka debut for the artist were developed further into noisier territories, yet containing even heavier calmness.

Sounds of noisy guitars stand out around and through the slow reverberating piano flows, presenting an environment more dense and obscure than usual that provides a solitary soundtrack to nowhere, really an aural pilgrimage with no destination in time and space.

Noise Ladder

“Noise is color in silence #01”

In a noisy and chaotic world, many of us are looking for calmness or emptiness. And when we finally find some pieces of silence, we understand that they are not empty at all.

Nicolas Lafay aka Noise Ladder presents “Noise is color in silence”. Behind this name, there is a series of releases, each of them consists of a cassette tape with original artwork and a digital version. For every new release, a new artist is invited to propose a visual universe for the music of Noise Ladder.

Jeanne Van Monckhoven, a French artist from Bordeaux, has drawn 4 gorgeous cassette covers for the first issue, so 4 copies of the tape are available.

The music is downloadable for free.

Blanket Swimming

“DR – Lightning Gallery”

“The Lightning Gallery” is a collaborative effort between Nicholas Maloney, operating under the Blanket Swimming moniker, and Dominic Razlaff, aka, DR.

Blanket Swimming/Nicholas Maloney is a sound artist, multi-instrumentalist, performer, and recording engineer from Jackson, Mississippi. Working primarily in the areas of drone, ambient, musique concrète, and electroacoustic improvisation, Nicholas creates personal, evocative recordings, while at the same time offering a pallet of sound that can be used to practice the rewarding act of deep listening. He looks to challenge the listeners’ focus and perception of sound. Much of his work explores the textural nature of sound within a framework of progressing and evolving compositions.

Dominic Razlaff (aka DR), born 1982, is a sound artist from Braunschweig, Germany. He uses synthesizers, acoustic instruments (Ukulele & Cavaquinho), field recordings, tape loops & granular synthesis to create melancholy ambient/drone soundscapes.

Nicholas first became aware of the work of DR in 2018 when both of the artists released cassettes through the Vermont-based tape label, Histamine Tapes. In 2019, the two went to become label mates on Macedonian ambient label, Post-Global Recordings. Nicholas became increasingly captivated by DR’s prolific body of work and eventually reached out to collaborate with a vision in mind to blend DR’s extended textural studies and melancholic drones with the swirling, melodic sound pallets and manipulated field recordings that Blanket Swimming is known for. Two full-length albums resulted from this collaboration, the second of which is presented to you here as a first release for both of the artists on Mahorka.

“The Lightning Gallery” is a 50/50 collaborative effort from both artists, created simultaneously in their respective hometowns through a process of re-manipulation, processing, degradation, rearrangement, additional layering, and evolution of 3&3 pieces of sonic material from the artists. The six pieces on the record are a drifting journey into unfamiliar landscapes that feel like home. The sound is always present, arriving, yet in a constant state of shifting and unfolding into limitless depth and openness. The sounds map out an illusionary, dimly lit gallery. Flashes of memories drift in and out as still life paintings take on new forms with each glance.

We hope these extended, sonic programmes may allow you to take a step back from whatever it is you may be caught up in and to enjoy a moment of stillness, repose.

“7 Jahre Vor Der Gegenwart”

Andreas Davids, maybe better known for his electro-industrial project XOTOX, but also as part of the Natura Est dark ambient duo, presents another result of his love for all that is ambient, abstract and not so abstract electronica.

“7 Jahre vor der Gegenwart” invites you to take a ride on an emotional rollercoaster with many ups and downs, epic moments, dark and light sides. From dark ambient and broken structures to technoid rhythms and sequences – everything that can happen within seven years is packed in this outstanding piece of music.

Andreas Davids says: “7 Jahre vor der Gegenwart has especially been created for my live debut with this project. This music has only been played live once and will never be played live again – this makes the release very special and I hope you all enjoy it”.

Blear Moon – Expanding lands

Blear Moon – Expanding lands
[SPRESS_11]

Blear Moon

“Expanding lands”

Hi!
In this work I combined various methods of experimental processing of the sound, including tape processing, using space acoustic, granular synthesis, micromontage, using space acoustic and pitching techniques. Some of my methods I developed while working on my Bachelor thesis on Sound art, but in case of my music I am applying this on my materials, that I am getting from my daily synth improvisations once inspired by Nils Frahm as his own daily routine. Most of my improvisations is strongly emotionally based and in case of Expanding lands I picked materials from past two years when I changed my living location a lot – Czech Republic, Taiwan, Urals of Russia. Because of that from track to track mood is very moving from melancholy to dark and from meditative to intense.

“Muqarnas”

“Walking into a mosque one enters into the space of a very strong idea. Although these architectures reflect the human universe of the believers, the principles of their construction obey the laws of the creator of the universe. Walking in a valley, into cave or forest presents an equally strong idea, if one listens carefully. The natural world is also created by an unknown, undefinable creator. The creator, singular or plural, incarnate in the creation of spaces like valleys and forests and caves doesn’t speak our language but what we have of the language of architecture and speech is drawn from the resonance and the laws of such spaces. Listening itself becomes an architecture. We reflect on how and when we listen. Simplicity and complexity convolve an infinite interaction.” — Jeffrey Alan Gburek

“QUIRKS”

Hi, there,

Maybe you’ll fing something to your tastes in my new project QUIRKS:

https://laurentfairon.bandcamp.com/album/quirks

The blurb:
The QUIRKS mini album combines various scattered audio remains –vinyl detritus, found sounds and spoken word– to produce new sound chimeras and audio collages with a life of their own.

The QUIRKS concept and methodology were inspired by a famous US boardgame from the 1980s, where cards of various animal parts combine to create new, imaginary creatures – the cover artwork chosen for this Bandcamp album intended to emulate the mood as well.

This project is also indebted to US provocateurs Bill Buchanan and Dickie Goodman, who pioneered the “break-in” record in the 1950s, or plunderphonics avant la lettre.

Walter Fini + Philippe Neau

“white project”

Spectra collide in synergy in “white project” – the essential result of the continuous collaboration between Phlippe “nobodisoundz” Neau and Walter Fini, which began a few years back. The release comprises of 3 compositions that revolve around the deafening and conflicting relationship that man has with nature, the dominant force and protagonist of our doings. The sounds shine through and envelope our daily lives totally, in a deafening, chaotic way. White as the color, which absorbs everything, which contains everything, wrapped in nothing. White is a sheet, where instinctive sound dimensions take shape, where a simultaneously abstract and concrete vision takes us to the ancestral roots of the human being.

“Dark”

Dark ambient album by Russian project Alex Mason. Hungry, gray, uninhabited forest. For many miles there is not a soul around and there is only a lonely house in the middle of the thicket. “Act I – Genesis”

“This album is a long-standing exploration of the juxtaposition between physical presence and mental boundaries that emerged during the creative process. Our bodies are matter physically present in the present reality, but our psychic capacities can be distanced, reaching parallel inter-temporal spaces. They aim at creating internal and external associative representations between presence – happening – reflection directed at the senses. The immediate primal feeling in one present is lost or renewed, disappears or reappears after nothing is the same again.”

“Bralitz Vol. 1”

The music you are listening to was recorded in the last week of August 2012 in Bralitz/Brandenburg, Germany. That year, there wasn’t a Braaahhlitz Festival yet, just a small concert at the end of the week. So there was plenty of time to play music.

The basic tracks with guitars, drums and bass were mostly recorded live, on a stage in the old railway station’s former waiting hall. After that, the musicians from the aaahh-records family contributed their parts. No boundaries – there is soul infused pop, folky acoustic songs, quirky raps, and beautiful melodies.

4T Thieves – Hauntology

4T Thieves – Hauntology
[mhrk227]

4T Thieves

“Hauntology”

“I’ve let this sink in for several weeks, and I’m glad I did. One road-trip up the Central Coast, several commutes to and from work, a recent 5-hr flight from the West and East coasts, and sporadic listenings when the time was just right—and one thing is certain: 4T Thieves’ (aka Kahvi head hauntologist) gives a nod to the Sandison and Eoin brothers in a very complimentary way. Taking cues from genuine feel-good and sun-soaked downbeat electronica strains (ie. “Orange Sunshine) to heavy bass acrobatics like the fantastic “Aquaverde”—Hauntology is an intense sonic smorgasbord.

From synthesizer squiggles featured on “Tessellations (The Synth)” to the magnetic ambient drifts and nostalgic flute sounds of “Daytime Astronomy,” each track is carefully woven to reveal its hidden melodic moments. Bells and slight whistles, eroded drums, and Cub Scout lessons about what to do in case of the Atom Bomb (ie. “Past Inside The Present”) are downbeat perfection. Tracks like “Still Life” crumple, decompose, and utterly engage the listener with memories recovered from yesteryear—meant to be played in a continuous loop, it doesn’t lose its emotional spark and fragile texture. Sculptures of sound like “Echo Lake” present stripped down (Deru-styled) hip-hop in the most tranquilized vein, ultimately tapering away as the sun begins to set on the horizon. The aptly titled “Painting With Light” sets out to explore atmospheric pressure as it connects minimal soundscapes and effervescent drones along the way. The aura surrounding “Lost Futures” is simply mind expanding—its minuscule melodies ebb and flow while a hypnotic 4/4 beat pushes forward. There are many crevasses to fall into, especially on the kaleidoscopic rhythm of “Summer Breeze and Autumn Leaves” (see video premiere)—4T Thieves once again masterfully ages this track with a subliminally vintage groove.

Hauntology raises the bar for BoC-inspired tunes, exploring atomic Weaponeering, and takes us out of the realm of kilotons into the fantastic world of megatons with ease and control. Ranked high in our Best Of 2019 list, Hauntology is aged to sonic perfection.” –Igloo Magazine

“Resistance”

A system created to analyze reality and perception got its inputs removed because it was going out of control. This fix damaged the reality by feedbacking the system on its repercussions causing incorrect analysis until the dream of reality became a stream of negative numbers. The resistance against the system was initiated to prevent it from corrupting the perception of reality, even though, it was already shaping the perception the way it wanted to, because the reality did not favour the system.

Broken and syncopated stream of percussive attack, punching through disharmonic leftovers in reverberation, not welcoming you at all by constantly reminding of its continuously corrupting state.
