about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

Valentina Maza

“Busco espacio”

Valentina Maza defines the pieces that comprise her latest album as “intensive compositions”. “Busco espacio” (Searching for Space) is a solo work, conceived, performed, and recorded live during three weeks of artistic residency at Centro GAM, and arising from a real-time creative process.

Three electroacoustic pieces and two remixes invite listeners to reflect on the myriad ways one can “make space” through sound, as music occupies time, body, equipment, and decisions. “That idea led to a hybrid system or recording and music that had almost no post-editing. These are pieces that I didn’t want to cut or manipulate much, in the sense that I refrained from using many effects, and left a more chamber-like sound” , describes Valentina.

The creator bring her work together with machines and viola as the principal instruments, using her voice “as a performative gesture, to mark certain moments. Like when lullabies are sung”, in her words. It can be heard as an invitation to immerse oneself in an alternative rhythm to that of the urban hustle, at once more intimate and timeless. In the “searching for space” of the title, there is, in reality, the creation of a new sonic environment.

Varius Artist – frecuenciAzul

Varius Artist – frecuenciAzul
[pn231]

Varius Artist

“frecuenciAzul”

The Chilean netlabel Pueblo Nuevo brings us this powerful compilation called “frecuenciAzul”, wherein eight Chilean creators pay tribute to nature and the territory. This work allows us to connect with our ancestors, human or not, whom we follow, and who have been displaced from their own home, coloring the natural landscape with death and gray hues. It’s a kind of collective spell that seeks to heal us all and promote the care and regeneration of our environment.

The compilation begins with ‘Bahía Misteriosa’ by Alisú, an ambient track that evokes the sounds of the sea, through the breaking of waves and the voices of seagulls and other seabirds gracefully intertwining in a synthesis of sounds that appear and disappear, as if it were breathing itself. This magnificent piece melancholically transports us to an unfathomable place, a inhospitable bay that rarely receives human visitors.

Next, we hear ‘Geofonías VIII’ by Valentina Villarroel, a curious collage of underwater acoustic recordings. With the help of a hydrophone, we are transported several meters below the surface amid the astonishment of running out of air. We can feel how the pressure in our ears changes and then just barelythe sound variations of the water, hitting the microphone capsule, as they surround us. A feeling of anxiety accompanies the listener, as if waiting for the sea not to realize that we have entered its territory.

We continue with ‘Sky’ by Valentina Maza, which begins with the voices of birds and establishes from the beginning an upliftingrhythm inspired by the fluctuations of the clouds in the sky. Delay and distortion play their part, elevating us towards a futuristic landscape suspended in the air where calm and storm alternate in this celestial theater. We wonder, will we ever be able to fly? Without a doubt, we accomplish this through sound.

In ‘Electriza’ by Amanda Irarrázabal, we have a masterful lesson on how to gather the sounds of the various stages of a storm. A pink noise serves as a continuous bass to recreate raindrops falling furiously on the earth. The thunder magnetizes the environment with electric currents playing in the stereo image. Do we hear a cello dancing in the background? We seem to perceive a chorus of amphibians and a cheerful whistle that invites an encounter. In the end, we welcome all those creatures that join in gratitude for this gift from the sky.

As we reach the midpoint of the album, we find darlavida, the artistic alias of Darla Quintana Medina, who presents us with ‘Efecto Mariposa’ (Butterfly Effect), an ode to chaos, a piece where synthesis and arpeggios, apparently random, intertwine with field recordings made by Maita Apparcel. The sounds followone another, as if manifesting the fact that nothing perishes, everything transforms. The supposed disorder within the sound landscape is nothing more than the birth of new creatures, which make their way through frequency sweeps and, together with chord pads, animal sounds, and certain rhythmic cells, narrate metaphors of a cyclical time that takes us back to the beginning.

‘Naturica’ is a piece by Groovestastik, the alter ego of Paulina Lobos, a dark work that flirts with industrial techno while addressing the history of the earth, from its constitution from a solar nebula, through the sounds of various water phenomena and the singing of birds interrupted by the presence of human voices and city noise. The relentless rhythm begins to accelerate its pulse as we wonder if it will be possible for all these creatures to live in harmony someday.

The next track stands out from the rest in the importance it gives to the percussive part. ‘Quick Sand’ is a work by Sofía Pululosz that is inspired by the viscosity of quicksand. Riddim, a subgenre of dubstep, makes its way through various minimalist percussion arrangements. The phrase ‘fuck this shit’, which denotes frustration in English, appears provocative and is deconstructed through sampling and processing. If we are currently in quicksand, what do we do to get out of it?

After all these reflections, we conclude with an ambient piece that invites us to immerse ourselves in the deepest relaxation, a grand overlay of textures that challenges the force of gravity, allowing us to free ourselves from our earthly weight, float on the soft layer of snow, and elegantly cross even the darkest black holes in the universe. ‘Visión Blanca’ by Yadak floods us with hope, encouraging us to explore the icy landscapes, under the protection of the majestic and centuries-old Mother Araucarias, ancestral guardians of the southern region. We still have time to counteract the ravages of climate change and preserve the beauty of our natural environment.

Miguel Gil – EROS Y TANATOS

Miguel Gil – EROS Y TANATOS
[pn230]

Miguel Gil

“EROS Y TANATOS”

“EROS Y TÁNATOS”: a recording for physically modeled piano and self-oscillator, both processed live. In composing this material, I’ve worked by inducing intermittent liminal sleep states, aiming to generate sustained feedback between music and sleep, or in other words, between my conscious and my musical subconscious.

Throughout the album, the clock ticks slowly in parallel with the music, under the vulnerability of liminal time. Meanwhile, the musical discourse traverses different compositional and improvisatory approaches, where the sound of the piano functions as a collective emotional memory that dialogues with electronics, like magnetic fields interfering with each other. This interaction questions the traditional hierarchical fiction between “main” and ornamental musical material.

The music contained in these pieces flows as an erotic act of life, an unconscious redeemer of the tearing caused by the inevitability of the disappearance of all we know.

Miguel Gil
(Madrid, España/Spain. Abril / April 2024)

In this work Miguel Gil navigates in sounds that come from diverse musical traditions, flowing in waters of diverse colors, guiding them, making them converge and immersing himself into them to interconnect spectral contents and dynamics. The color of the piano is expanded electronically and unfolds and converges again in a refined construction. Just as a material is transparent from the outset, the artist also presents elusive sound figures to the inevitable human mimetic need. In them, distortion at times seems to be an audible being, a séricule as Chion would say, indeterminate, novel, and at other times, a dense veil over a possible instrument played by a mysterious musician. Whatever the case, Gil dominates the structure, at times diachronic like a stroke of Chinese calligraphy and at other times spectrally orchestrated. At other times, the piano notes, in sensitive, tension-filled intervals, impressionistic if you will, can journey into delicately rough spaces through electronic iterations. A music that seems referential to various musical backgrounds, but at the same time timeless and of a richness elaborated from the subtle to the frank gesture thanks to the author’s extensive mastery of sound.

Baradit – South Pacific Waves

Baradit – South Pacific Waves

Baradit

“South Pacific Waves”

The most recent work by the restless Felipe Baradit offers us a delicious musical journey that opens with a brief ambient cut, an exercise that at this point seems almost an initiation ritual for any electronic work that is appreciated as such. The eleven songs that follow immerse us in a bath of fully enjoyable instrumental electro pop.
Baradit music usually transmits a certain positive energy, and this is no exception, as we are faced with a production that leaves us optimistic and pleased.
The sound palette is nourished by sophisticated analog keyboards, which gives the album traits of timelessness, as exemplified by the cut that gives its name to this musical delivery.
Within the first half of the album, the tandem formed by the dark Classic Machine Beats and the brilliant Tomita Cat Beats stand out, which elegantly evokes the legacy of Aphex Twin.
Baradit is a producer who knows, explores and exploits the privileges that life on the coastal edge of the Valparaíso region can offer and as can be deduced from titles such as Art in the Landscape, the 47 minutes of “South Pacific Waves” function as an enthusiastic love letter to those places.

“Bocetos, Diarios y Sonidos 2”

Imagine an ear free from the laws of perspective created by humans, an ear free from the prejudices of compositional logic, an ear that doesn’t respond to the name of everything but must know each object it encounters in life through a perception adventure. How many sounds are there in a field of grass for a crawling baby to be unaware of the sound of “green”? How many rainbows can light create for the inexperienced ear? How aware can that ear be of variations in heat waves? Imagine a world full of incomprehensible objects, shimmering with an infinite variety of movements and countless shades of color. Envision a world before words and sound, not to be merely imitated, but to be combined according to our fantasy. Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Tristan Sotomayor – Conjunto Vacio

Tristan Sotomayor – Conjunto Vacio
[pn228]

Tristan Sotomayor

“Conjunto Vacio”

A journey into emptiness, into the unknown of a knowledge that, because it is known, is forgotten. When the learned becomes commonplace, it disappears, and a new language is constructed to hold ideas. In Tristán Sotomayor‘s “Conjunto Vacío” (“Empty Set”), the primary focus is the body, the way it encounters experience and listening; what is forgotten becomes instinct, ways of inhabiting and traversing the world and its landscapes.

Elements, stories, signs, traces, and references unfold amid pristine, dark, and evocative spaces that challenge and reveal, paraphrasing the musician, artist, and writer David Toop, in sequences where the solid, fixed, stable, and concrete dissolve into the depths of the singular, different, deterritorialized, and immersive.

We witness the construction of a story made up of 7 fragments in which intensities coexist with expansive or contained spaces, traversing moments filled with absorbed information in chiaroscuros that subtly show and hide the place where the sounds originate and coexist.

An invitation to listen to the abstract nature of space, its designs, and structures; the ideas through which one can “float freely in a liquid space of nonlinear time”, as Toop also wrote. It presents an ethereal world translated through aromas, silences, and noises that give meaning in circumstances that constantly change. “Conjunto Vacío” is the sound and image of a story that possesses its own language to narrate the world, its course, and intensity.

Lluvia Acida – Puntarenazo

Lluvia Acida – Puntarenazo
[pncd13]

Lluvia Acida

“Puntarenazo”

The Puntarenazo and the strike of a beast.

We are facing a documentary work capable of communicating an open wound, the slash of a predatory beast that slipped through the cracks of our history. The musical group Lluvia Ácida has offered an account of testimonies and images that document, “El Puntarenazo”, the first demonstration against dictator Augusto Pinochet in his presence, which took place on February 26, 1984, in the main square of the city of Punta Arenas. There, the tyrant in his uniform from uncertain battles and his gray cape encountered the reaction of a people who, behind the bars of the cathedral, accused him of his crimes, baseness, and felonies. All of this led to a series of episodes linked to the political expression of the regime, culminating in the tragic events of October 6 of that same year: the installation of a bomb that destroyed the parish of “Nuestra Señora de Fátima (Our Lady of Fatima)” and which also ended the life of the army lieutenant who placed the explosive.

The music and the progression of the documentary provide the viewer with a significant universe, an eloquence to appreciate, on the one hand, a mark of pain. And in another sense, the beautiful symphony of civic organization. I am aware that as a musical group and also as audiovisual artists, Lluvia Ácida have a long history of developing themes related to the social struggles of our southern community.

“Puntarenazo” is a work where the voices of the past coexist to convey a new pact with history. It goes without saying that many times there is a tendency to emphasize the Coup and the dictatorship as something that mainly happened in Santiago, the political and administrative capital of our country. But there was also Dawson, Tejas Verdes, Isla Quiriquina, Pisagua, and, in the same way, citizens from different areas of the territory protested against tyranny. In this case, the southernmost continental city in the world was the stage for that gesture of rebellion, forged in different town hall meetings held in the heart of the community.

Where do the silenced words and the pains that never healed persist? It is a truth and a certainty that art is often there to interrogate that trauma, to dive into the depths and bring back the lessons of history, sometimes even exposing the matrix of an era. Therefore, Lluvia Ácida has created a unique, impeccable document that unearths a time when horror and infamy were the daily currency. Amid the amnesiac choruses that some propose in our present, they have addressed the need for memory and the epic of a distant community that rose up against the dictates of a hooded and cruel general who betrayed the most elementary principles of a republic.

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek – Cantos a la grieta encendida

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek – Cantos a la grieta encendida
[pn227]

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek

“Cantos a la grieta encendida”

The story of Vagido, the poetry book by Verónica Zondek, is intense and extensive. The first publication in 1990 (Ediciones Embalaje, Colombia) took its author by surprise. The second edition appeared the following year at Editorial Último Reino in Buenos Aires. It wasn’t until 2014 that we encountered it in Chile, thanks to Alquimia Ediciones, in a special release that included a new poem, a work of poetic art, fragments of interviews, and critical texts. A perfect box set, as we might call it in musical terms.

Some of these texts are heard in Cantos a la grieta encendida, ), this album published by Pueblo Nuevo, a label that, while offering its productions for digital download, takes care to surround the music with reviews, credits, and artwork, all those elements that belonged to the album covers of our cassettes and CDs and that have now disappeared inside streaming lists. Thanks to this information, then, we can learn in more detail that, in addition to Verónica Zondek‘s poems, Valentina Maza composed, produced, interpreted the machines and violas, and participated in the mixing. A mix, by the way, in which the author’s voice is predominantly in the foreground most of the time.

In the epilogue to the second edition of Vagido, María Teresa Adriasola (Elvira Hernández) warned of “the phonic redundancy of this poetry (internal rhymes, alliterations, assonances, annomination, etc.), repetitions that also extend in words, verses, without harmonizing. These sounds, producers of a concert of disconcerting internal echoes, beats, clatter, are relentless, and their discord is part of the anguishing migraine that surrounds childbirth and the wails of the newborn.” It is very valuable to read this description in light of the interpretation that unfolds here: fragmented words, detached from their pronouns, where some playful acts stand out, like the “T” of the first track (which, as noted in a footnote of the book, refers to both the dative condition and the “T” of the intrauterine device, as well as the first letter of the name Tamara and “anything else that can be attributed to the sound of that letter that drumrolls and makes itself present”). These repetitions remain rooted in a constant rhythm, where the anxiety of the pulsations that are piling up is perceived.

“She found the rhythm”, Verónica tells me about the music that Valentina Maza created after recording her voice. And she has also created a completely different dimension. If we imagine the interior space as a flow of slow and muted sounds, here the exterior emerges, and we can hear birds, winds, stars, galactic explosions, as real as unreal, populating an immense landscape. A symbol comes to mind, the mandorla, wherein the superimposition of two circles produces an almond shape that, as Juan Eduardo Cirlot explains, represents the “union, the zone of intersection and interpretation” of the upper and lower worlds, of heaven and earth, and also represents “the perpetual sacrifice that renews creative force through the double current of ascent and descent (appearance, life and death, evolution and involution”.

I believe I have heard something of that sacrificial character in some specific moments where the scraping on the viola’s strings sounds with clear definition, those strings that must be sufficiently tense to vibrate. Perhaps in this we can find the point of greatest connection between Valentina Maza ‘s music and Verónica Zondek‘s poetry, for whom the word “must sometimes twist to find the way it returns to be charged with meaning. (…) Poetry estranges the word from its natural habitat to make it speak. The poetic word stretches an unquestioned reality.” Let’s adjust our eyes, our ears, and our bodies to vibrate in sympathy with that same tension.

GOZNE – La Odisea de Poseidón

GOZNE – La Odisea de Poseidón
[EPA102]

GOZNE

“La Odisea de Poseidón”

“I stood gazing into the night. I knew that we were being stalked by ships of the Imperial Japanese Fleet. We had been trying to hunt them down all day. Enemy planes were flying over our heads, and the islands around us were full of their soldiers. Next to me, on the small bridge, was Lieutenant Kennedy. A boy of twenty-six who looked several years younger. Suddenly, a flash of lightning illuminated the night. It was a Japanese destroyer bearing down on us. Sound the alarm! Kennedy shouted to me. I ran two steps and sounded the alarm… but the destroyer slammed into our ship, splitting it in two. Kennedy fell backwards and I fell with him…. (T. Sartoris, RUMBOS Magazine, 1961).”

The above story, starring radio operator John Maguire and Lieutenant Kennedy, during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 by the Imperial Japanese Navy, presents us with dangers and risks on the high seas caused by the hand of man of war, who does not consider the sea, which can be even more accurate, objective and harmful, without being at war with man. The four tracks of the album La Odisea de Poseidón, are a musical account of some of the most inhospitable places where the sea shows its claw to the ships and their crews. I personally know the Golfo de Penas and the Drake Sea, I have crossed them on more than one occasion. Sometimes it seemed that the sea hated us, or that we were fighting a battle with it, or simply playing. GOZNE’s music could transport me to those moments with every sound and atmosphere. Here is the grinding of the iron bars, wind and sea leading the baton. Poseidon, Greek deity of the seas, seems to sing the lowest tones of the orchestration and his retinue does his thing to put the most technologically gifted vessel and the most experienced crew in trouble. An odyssey indeed, and nothing less than the Odyssey of Poseidon.

Guillermo Yáñez Yáñez, Retired Warrant Officer, Chilean Navy.

Jayson Hernandez – Flayte Neo Sur

Jayson Hernandez – Flayte Neo Sur

Jayson Hernandez

“Flayte Neo Sur”

“Flayte Neo Sur” summarizes the methodologies of 10 years of sound composition for performing arts by the composer Jayson Hernández (1992). The main inspiration for this work is the collaboration with five electroacoustic composers: Valentina Aguilera, Ariel Fernández, Matias Alarcón, Antonia Valladares and José Miguel Candela, who, in a featuring capacity, contribute to the composition of the album.

The album comprises 5 pieces, each of which is infused with elements inspired by Granja Sur, multifocality, and the re-signification of a territory that emerged post-dictatorship in Chile, located in the southern outskirts of the capital. Each piece is associated with an aphorism proposed by the composer. The invitation was to improvise in an electroacoustic key and then compose based on this experience, induced through a somatic practice that allowed a connection with the archives and repertoires of the geography.

Inspired by observation and recording, the album seeks to challenge the concept of the periphery from a political perspective. Its primary influences are local artists from the southern area of the capital, such as muralist Oficio Erico and the UFO Group, poet Juan Carreño and the Vlop Cinema Collective. The album also reflects on aesthetic experiences in peripheral territories, particularly in Granja Sur and its surroundings, where the composer gathers local testimonies and symbols as elements that shape the soundscapes of the compositions.

Kristallo – Persecucion

Kristallo – Persecucion
[pn225]

Kristallo

“Persecucion”

Kristallo is an alternate project by the Argentine artist Pablo Reche, which he defines as his ‘B side.’ With this alias, he explores the sonic possibilities of noise in a field with a stronger presence of rhythm and pulsations, further away from the sound composed of drones. The pieces that make up the EP “Persecución” have a brief format, with a predominant sound of a primitive and rough nature that tends towards pure abstraction.

T1 > Everything begins with a mass of interference and sounds that appear as discoveries in the gaps left in the tuning bands of a radio. These units are waves with changes in their dynamics, which gradually form a constructive process of noise.

T2 > Accents in a hiss grow to form a polyrhythmic block that dissolves into a state close to silence. It’s a structure whose spectrum emerges and lingers.

T3 > In an industrially charged environment, you can feel the pulses and folds as time progresses. Each layer has its own space and communicates with the others as if in conversation. Noise bursts create the grid where everything is organized.

T4 > What remains after a burst is the shape of an echo that extends like a drone. Things become recognizable under a faint layer of sand.

T5 > In the resonant space of a tube, digital rhythmic gestures bounce, moving away from the organic roughness of the previous ones, forming a slow melody. There are openings that mark its development, transitioning from a contemplative tone to a dramatic one.

This set of tracks has the virtue of creating a calm atmosphere in which the subtlest intervals can be perceived.
