about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Hello, I have made a few changes to the site. Unfortunately, I am not quite finished yet, but it should continue without interruption. I hope you find the changes useful. Stay tuned. Konrad

Ant The Symbol

“You Are Here: Midnight”

Back in September we released an amazing EP by Ant The Symbol called You Are Here: Downtown (if you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure you do). Well, it turns out that that EP was the first in a series and today we’ve got the second installment, You Are Here: Midnight!

While listening, it becomes clear why these EPs are part of the same series. There’s a certain sonic character to them that reveals a music artist whose sound is maturing. There’s also a sense of a certain deterministic experimentation.

Whether you’ve heard Ant’s music before or not, be sure that you check it out now. What he’s creating these days is something really special.

Yo, Ant… you did it again… I think you’re channeling greater forces! Simply incredible.

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Remember… everything we release is cool to share! Always keep the music moving… share it… blog it… podcast it! If you’re in radio… support independent music and broadcast it!

Ambelion – Past Future

Ambelion – Past Future
[CAEL0003]

Ambelion

“Past Future”

Past Future is CerebralAudio’s second in a series of re-releases of Ambelion’s back catalog. Ambelion approached us about re-releasing these works in the hope that we would be able to gather more attention to his work, and improve on the packaging and mastering of his work: in essence bringing new life to his relatively unknown and neglected work.

Having being familiar with Waiting For Quarters, there was immediate interest in listening to the works that Ambelion had previously released. He sent us two releases: Quasi-Stationary and Past Future. It didn’t take much for us to agree that these works needed to be heard, and Ambelion needs to be appreciated by a more receptive audience.

So, Past Future is the second of these releases. In the future we are working on several more releases from his back catalog, including the potential release of some previously un-released tracks.

Boss, Sambo, Chagas, Nobara & Silver T.

“A fragile balance (Fourtounis)”

Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel is pleased to present “A fragile balance (Fourtounis)“, album from multicultural improvisation group Boss, Sambo, Chagas, Nobara & Silver T.

“‘Fourtounis’ is the name of the local seafood tavern (that serves more than just seafood) where I indulge in the habit of sitting and relaxing during the summer afternoons (as well as during other times of the day and other times of the year), after a refreshing swim in the sea.

‘Fourtounis’ is the name of the place where I sit enjoying the company of my wife Christina and my friends (more than friends actually, my brothers I should say), Christopher the Lawyer, Thomas, Giorgos and Kostas the Teacher. There we meet to drink ouzo and chat about everything imaginable.

That is the place where, one afternoon, quite possibly under the influence of the drink, I had an idea: listening to the sound of the sea and contemplating the rocky shore, I got out my drumsticks and my brushes and using those accessories as well as my bare hands, I improvised on the rocks, the sand, the pebbles and the water. It was an idea that at first seemed really simple but proved to be quite challenging, since, besides actually playing and improvising, I also had to negotiate the rocks on which I was forced to balance.

I really don’t know if I succeeded, but the most important thing is that through the music I managed to gather around me some special friends and wonderful musicians, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart for their invaluable help:

Matthias Boss – Violin.
Mauro Sambo – Alto sax.
Paulo Chagas – Oboe.
Rogelio Nobara – Acoustic guitar.

I would also like to thank the whole “Fourtounis” team, who allowed me to use the name of the establishment and who didn’t laugh at me too hard watching my struggles to balance and stand upright on the rocks: Sotiris, Dionysis, Babis, Grigoris, Joe the Terrible, Anastasis and Antonis for his magnificent photos.”

Chris Silver T – Field recording, objects.

Fodiator – No Reason

Fodiator – No Reason
[SCL188]

Fodiator

“No Reason”

“High up in the attic in the middle of the night… a faint light”

Van Ooij (1970) grew up in the south of the Netherlands and was brought up around music. His father was a local folk singer and Joris had the privilege to try out all old and strange instruments his father made and gathered over the years. Van Ooij followed violin lessons and played a lot on the harmonium. From a young age he started to write his first songs, formed a group with his schoolmates and at the age of 13 they act on national Dutch TV. He bought his first synthesizer at his 15th birthday ( Korg ms10) and that seemed to be the start of experimenting and playing a lot with more ectronic sounds & instruments.
He started to write for theatre and in 1996 he co-wrote the soundtrack and leader for a 26 episodes Dutch tv series named “West-Zijde Posse”
With the urge to create and as a kind of escapism he founded Fodiator (after a genius of the flying fish family) in 2010. A melancholic blend of indie, pop, rock, folk and more….call it “commuter-pop”. His sound, made with all kinds of instruments in combination with his “falsetto” voice has a strong weakness… he often jokes.

Press & Support:
– 22 tracks Brussels:
“The things we learn while selecting these 22tracks! Apparently, a ‘Fodiator’ is a genius of the flying fish family. Next to that, it’s also a project started by songwriter Joris van Ooij in his attic. He’s an self-taught musician who creates his songs alone and then performs them with his Dutch – Belgian band. Van Ooij likes to create an atmospheric and melancholic blend of indie, pop & folk, that reminds us of what makes acts like Efterklang, Menomena and Guillemots so great. Great stuff for the winter, that is coming’’.

– Radio1 Belgium:
“Sometimes it is allowed to play plain pop music, so with this song by Fodiator. A rich layered sound and great story about the longing for the first sunny day of the season, told in just 2.24 minutes.”

– 3voor12 :
“Joris van Ooij, musician behind Fodiator is offering his unpolished music, made on his attic, on the internet….We heard four quiet promising tracks that we hope will appear to hear on EP soon.”

– Elite Muzik:
“I found a new record from Fodiator, an upcoming indie band out of Holland. The record is titled “No Reason”, and sound pretty dam good, give it a listen…”

Mystified – There Is No Wall No Nothing

Mystified – There Is No Wall No Nothing
[CAAM0007]

Mystified

“There Is No Wall No Nothing”

Today we are proud to release the first full-length release from Mystified: There Is No Wall No Nothing. This is Mystified’s second appearance on CerebralAudio. His first appearance was back in July on Into The Rift: Volume One. However, comparison’s between the two tracks would not be valuable. Thomas has the habit of being able to find completely different sounds and structures, even when he is exploring similar source materials and techniques for working with them.

There Is No Wall No Nothing might be a continuation of his exploration of using 78 rpm and Cylinder recordings as source material. However, this work does not have the mechanical grinding sounds present in the
previous work. Instead these sounds are placed well into the background, the basis for the drone element of this work without drowning out the other elements.

The intriguing element to this release is the voice: it’s distorted and manipulated to the point of sounding either alien or bug-like. Hearing it set against the cavernous drone sound makes one think that we are in
some kind of prehistoric era, listening to the formation of life itself.

And with those elements only scratch the surface of this work. There are all sorts of hidden suprises and subtleties throughout this piece that will give your mind a lot to chew on.

Daniel Robert Lahey – Uncultivated Upland

Daniel Robert Lahey – Uncultivated Upland
[CACL0001]

Daniel Robert Lahey

“Uncultivated Upland”

Daniel Robert Lahey makes his debut on CerebralAudio with Uncultivated Upland. Daniel started fiddling with the keys of a piano as soon as he could reach them and whenever he could get away with it. He took guitar lessons at 10 and got very serious about it by the age of 15. (Of course, he figured it would help him pick up girls.) He devoted 12 years to the classical guitar repertoire before he’d had enough of so much work for no pay.

Toward the end of his time as a guitarist, he started playing around with Synthesizers. He has been playing keyboards for over 50 years at this point. He grew up with a love for classical music, and has studied many of the great composition masters through the years. This knowledge of classical music is what informs his current works.

On Uncultivated Upland Daniel presents six new works that reflect his perspective on life today. Some of these compositions are a reflection of life in our world today, sometimes from
a slightly off-center perspective (like on “The Zookeeper Escapes” or “Baked”), while other times appealing on a purely emotional basis (like “Uncultivated Upland” or “Tears”).

Give these compositions a close listening. There is a lot to experience and a lot to savor in these well crafted, exquisitely produced recordings.

F600 – Dos Puertas y un Puente para una Banda Sonora

F600 – Dos Puertas y un Puente para una Banda Sonora
[pn111]

F600

“Dos Puertas y un Puente para una Banda Sonora”

Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel is pleased to present “Dos Puertas y un Puente para una Banda Sonora“, album from chilean musician and producer F600.

“The most recent work of Miguel Conejeros, aka F600, corresponds to the soundtrack for the artistic installation “Dos Puertas y un Puente para una Banda Sonora (Two Doors and a Bridge for a Sound Track),” a collaborative montage between Miguel and the artist Rodrigo Vergara. The work, which combined sculpture and music, was exhibited in the International Museum of Chile – Gallery MICh, in Santiago, Chile, between the 17th and the 24th of June 2016.

The sonic montage in its original version was developed in a multichannel (5.1) format, in order to be appreciated by the viewer/listener as he or she transverses the space of the exhibition, where the sounds are released from the four corners of the hall, projecting a sensation of spatiality and movement, in contrast to the apparent inertia of the sculpture.

In the words of Sebastián Riffo, Director of the Gallery MICh, “The pieces exhibited were erected from the concrete, free of abstract sentimentalisms, interior life and/or conceptual and/or symbolic over-determination. They were there, alone, supported above structures of metal in order to say nothing. They wouldn’t share stories, messages, nor morals, they were only embedded in our floor and extending themselves through space. Of a palpable nature, realizing distinct material layers and sounds, as if dealing with geological strata; enigmas impossible to resolve without the help of an attentive ear and a dilated interest.”

This disc contains a demonstration in stereo of the work of F600, valuable as a historic register of the creative processes of Miguel, moreover, it provides the listeners the possibility to appreciate in a new instance the materiality of his sounds, those that are capable in and of themselves, of telling us this and other stories, of opening doors and laying new bridges.”

Mika Martini
(Santiago, Chile. Octubre / October 2016)

REVIEW:

“The intimate and unrepeatable process of the construction of this piece is captured through the sounds that inhabit the studio.

They are the acoustic frequencies from the manipulation of the distinct elements that raise the scaffolding of this sound track.

Much like the materiality of a sculpture is intervened with pigments, molds, and tools: the captured sounds are processed electronically and digitally, imprinting their own character in the result.

‘Dos puertas y un puente para una banda sonora’, is an exercise in congruence between materialities that plant themselves like a tale of a tactile, optic and acoustic construction in order to be traversed, contemplated, and inhabited from their interior.”

Miguel Conejeros (aka F600)
(Santiago, Chile. Junio / June 2016)

Rodrigo Vergara:

Visual artist. He has participated in more than 40 expositions, including 6 individual. His work has been shown in diverse countries in Europe and America, and he has also been published in more than 25 media specialized in art, as much in Chile as foreign. He has obtained three distinctions in concourses and 5 state financed grants. He has realized residences in Brazil and Argentina.

Ambelion

“Quasi-Stationary”

My first introduction to the work of Ambelion was in 2014 when I found a remastered copy of his 2008 release Waiting for Quarters. I was taken by his ability to mix Ambient, IDM, Berlin School and a host of other electronic music styles. Now with Quasi-Stationary Ambelion has brought his distinctive approach to electronic music to CerebralAudio.

This release sees Ambelion’s more IDM approach to electronic music: lots of beats and breaks, with hints of swirling ambiance at times, and other times more mechanical counterpoint. This is really a return to the style of the 90’s, but with a modern touch that only Ambelion could envisage.

Tim Kays

“The Way Home”

After more than five years in recording and production, Tim Kays has released an album that reaches past the influences of Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Biran Eno and other electronic artists and reconnects with his long time passion for progressive rock music (ala Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, Yes, D.O.A., and Gentle Giant): The Way Home.

That re-connection is apropos for an album that is about finding The Way Home. Tim’s approach to the concept of “home” is about more than just the lodging that one might have. It’s about the emotional home, the strength of beliefs, and the patience it takes to find one’s true home.

Having the forbearance to work on a release for five years is tantamount to the journey that it can take a person to find their home. Tim has created a release that is the most personal expression of this journey.

We welcome Tim to CerebralAudio with this release, and hope you will enjoy it as much as we have in working on bringing this release to you. It’s truly an honor for us to be entrusted with a release that has taken Tim many years to bring to its most perfect form.

“Adventures”

This new EP from See Pereria builds on previous releases and continues to play and experiment with a process led approach to making experimental electronica.

Preset loops are used as set parameters with the addition of vocals as a further instrument. These limits and boundaries allow for See Pereria to really experiment with the software to create new sounds. Each track in the song is manipulated and sculpted by being layered, cut up and/or looped. Songs are made with heavy emphasis on synths, beats, repetition and harmonies.

Lefterna

“Furthermore”

Furthermore is a medium lenght concept EP in which Lefterna offers a range of static, slowly changing moods through five ambient/drones and noise sketches. Quoting a famous phrase by Brian Eno about ambient music, Lefterna’s five tracks simply happen. They don’t develop. You won’t find an intro, a fade in, a theme, an outro. Everything the artist wants to tell us unfold in its entirety to our ears as soon as you press play. We wanted to see what happened providing you a 6th bonus track where all the playlist is played and mixed continously. This alternative listening approach will lead you to an interesting journey in which you will experience how five static soundscapes mutate into one another, landing in a final destination you won’t expect how far from the starting point is.

“You Are Here: Downtown”

Back at the end of August, Ant The Symbol sent me a few new songs to check out. I downloaded them and listened… like, whoa! I instantly felt that the seven songs I was listening to were the most inspired that he’d created thus far, as The Symbol. Of course I had to release them, so that you can enjoy, too.

With You Are Here: Downtown Ant manages to take his downtempo sound into new territory. In doing so, he has moments that reminds you of Aphex Twin and others that could be what Art of Noise would sound like if they tried to make music like him. Moments of humor, adventure, bliss and beauty all come together in an immediate and addictive set. IMO, he’s hit the nail on the head… HIS sound has been defined… maybe he’ll surprise us with more goodies in the coming months? I sure hope so. In the meantime, enjoy this EP. Wear out your hard-drives, playing it.

Please Ant, don’t hurt ’em! Jeebus, man… this was an ill surprise. I think the kids are gonna dig it.

BERTHELOT – Les anecdotes polyédriques

BERTHELOT – Les anecdotes polyédriques
[earS084]

BERTHELOT

Thus began the idea of a six month release schedule! So Bulls fans… get ready… more dopeness to come! What… you’re just discovering the Bulls? Well, dig… check this out and then check out their back catalog.

Many thanks goes out to The Impossebulls for continuing to bring that classic hip-hop in this era of mumble “rappers”, trappers and twerkers. Perhaps some day boom bap will once again be considered hot. Davy J… I hope that your generation can rectify the situation… your dad is doing a good job teaching you… perhaps other dads are teaching their youth, as well. Word.

“Expande”

“Jorge Grela invites us to explore three landscapes in these compositions. The triad ‘Expande‘ (Expand), selected for dance, contains atmospheres from the cavernous to the aqueous, giving use to – among other resources – field recordings, bass pulses, abrasive textures and melodies realized with samples and synthesizers. The use of panning marks dissimilar spaces that converge and establish themselves in the perception of the audience, giving to this disc a characteristic that is of utmost importance in works composed for the stage: that of stimulating the subjectivity and imagination of the spectators, in order to promote a state of immersion in the presentation”.

Øystein Jørgensen & Chris Silver T. – DOORS

Øystein Jørgensen & Chris Silver T.

“DOORS”

This collaboration album, arose from the inspiration and endless talent of the artists Øystein Jørgensen & Chris Silver T., exhales and ultimately catapults the listener into a fascinating melange of multitudinous space particles and technocratic galaxies of aural ether. The obscure flow of sound constantly flashes into a physiognomy of percussion, rhythm patterns and beat spectrum that only make the aulic darker parts much more isolating and hence threatening. The sonic paradox is: Look into brightness to make the surroundings turn dark. Each one of these “DOORS” opens towards boundless universes to discover, explore and solemnly embrace.

Richard Sanderson

“A Thousand Concreted Perils”

New album of experimental improvisations for melodeon (diatonic button accordion) from London based squeezebox player, morris dancer and head of Linear Obsessional Recordings. “A Thousand Concreted Pearls” goes even further than previous albums, the melodeon is amplified and put through effects pedals and mixed with feedback, or put through a modular synth. This resolutely melodic instrument, and workhorse of English folk is here thrust into an entirely new world.

Dirch Blewn – Capacity and Resistance

Dirch Blewn – Capacity and Resistance
[LOR082D]

Dirch Blewn

“Capacity and Resistance”

Dirch Blewn is the project of musician David Bloor. He records and performs the instruments of Peter Blasser. Recorded live with a few overdubs this music is the sound of capacitors charging and dissipating, of gesture with no finesse, of fish guts and physical connection with wires. Flexing wood and the smell of tung oil. It’s about the drum of Tommy Lee added to some drama from Pamela, the heady mix of surfboards and silicon. The remnants of squeezing jelly ass signal into 8 bits and ultrasound. The sound of woodpile, chaos theory, kiri with a cardboard box, industrial components and paradox.

Linear Obsessional is delighted to release this mesmeric work as a free download as a precursor to an album of shorter works to be released later in the year…

Capacity & Resistance was recorded on two plumbutters, cocoquantus, sidrax and tetrax.

Luis Marte – Routier

Luis Marte – Routier
[pn109]

Luis Marte

“Routier”

“When the diverse tendencies of electronic sound are combined, they create style. The form in which the style is crafted provides variety to the listener. As such, it is natural for the inspired musician to suddenly perceive the different forms of noise and interpret it in relation to a work. Luis Marte establishes the union of rhythm and sonic experimentation in a persistent manner, wide and fleeting, with passages (and/or landscapes) “from other worlds” injected from minimal percussion, clear and at the same time deep beats, synthesizers strange for the neophyte and beloved for the initiated.

I have no doubt that Routier (pn109) was composed for the most part with hardware; its sound betrays it. Each beat has its own personality, every glitch, strike, synthesizer and noise in general is carefully aleatoric (Is it possible for the casual to be meticulously cultivated also?) and fits perfectly.

The experience of the autor is also important when it comes time to produce. The broad musical baggage of Luis Marte, the production of numerous festivals, collaborations, and his constant research with new media allows him to interpret through his own prism tendencies that are raw, that do not tend to sail together in the ocean of electronic sound.

What do we have then?

Seven sessions riddled with singular concepts , rhythmic and minimalist, analog and digital, interlaced into a whole and conforming parity, exquisite and of good taste when it comes to relating each noise, beat, glitch, synthesizer, machine, module and who knows what other gadget worthy of praise between the jumble of cables and connections in the studio of Luis Marte.”

“Moderate Peril”

The Cream Canteens bring you ‘Moderate Peril’

Feast your ears! This eagerly-awaited EP is a musical summit in all respects: a meeting of minds returned from remote audio peaks with a knapsack of treasure.

The Canteens fuse their digital experiments with the wiles of ancient folklore, creating a palette that is all their own. Each track is a bittersweet quest, moving from melodic flute ditties to sonic fuzz barrage, from lo-fi tinkering to laser-synth pyrotechnics. These warm-hearted tunes are guided by a firm hand on the tiller, with a daydream nod to the darker shores…

So, lay back and relax on this trans-Europa express and immerse your lobes in a mildly-threatening aural treat!

The Impossebulls – The Devils You Know

The Impossebulls – The Devils You Know
[BSOG0057]

The Impossebulls

“The Devils You Know”

Today The Impossebulls return with their first album of all new material since 2014’s impressive “Everything Has Changed; Nothing Is Different”! The new album, “The Devils You Know” is another dope selection of joints that simultaneously take you back to that classic boom bap sound, while also remaining fresh and new.

As with the previous album, The Bulls enlist a little help from good friends and legends… the most notable of which is one of the founding members of the great Stetsasonic and one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop… Daddy-O! Of course that’s not all… the great Kyle Jason lends his voice to the album… as does the talented Anime Oscen. Last, but surely not least… our own The Honorable Sleaze drops a verse!

This dope new album isn’t all, though… in the coming five months, The Bulls are dropping the 5×5 series of EPs. One each month featuring more new music! Also, very soon, fans will be able to purchase “Devil’s Work”… a limited edition box set containing the album and all five EPs, so fans don’t have to wait to get all that fresh music into their ears! We’ll let you know when that becomes available. For now… we hope you enjoy the new album.

A very sincere thank you to The Impossebulls and all collaborators for delivering yet another underground / independent / netlabel hip-hop classic. Sleepers will sleep… those who are woke will hear it. blocSonic’s going to continue to wake ’em. Word.

V.A. – Access Frame: Property

V.A. – Access Frame: Property
[KAM015]

V.A.

“Access Frame: Property”

Democratization potential of online distribution of music has disrupted the landscape of music industry. While life is moving into information networks and capital and desire for profit are creating unregulated attention economies, an artist is able to create her own production, distribution and communication channels. By using Creative Commons licenses she ensures that the listeners and users are not criminalized for sharing. “Some rights reserved” also supports the idea that without free culture we are doomed to corporatization and control of all culture and art. The commons might cease to exist. Perhaps the role of the netlabel in the neo-liberal late-capitalist landscape is to help with curation, filtering, distribution, promotion and communication of unfettered and uncompromising artistic sonic output and making sure it is properly archived for future generations. A netlabel, an entity that is objectively external, allows the author to be critical about her work, while making sure that her work is published, shared, heard and archived.

With all that in mind Kamizdat is joining the celebration of low-barier D.I.Y. music publishing revolution, the annual celebration day called The Netlabel Day on 14. July.

The title of this collection of Slovenian artists refers to an idea that the debate around free, libre and open access enabled almost costlessly by the Internet is framed by the understanding of the concept of property. This seems almost an historical point, a disruption that has marked almost two decades since the appearance of the MP3, but we believe it is still one of main roots of the many problems regarding online culture and art today.

Svann Langguth – Drei- und Vierstimmige Interventionen & Polymorphe Vivisektion

Svann Langguth – Drei- und Vierstimmige Interventionen & Polymorphe Vivisektion
[wuerfel 19]

Svann Langguth

“Drei- und Vierstimmige Interventionen & Polymorphe Vivisektion”

Over a couple of months, Svann Langguth soldered numerous electronic tone and noise generators and finally packed them in lunch boxes (Tupperware, anyone?). Therein, boards with the following chips are used:

40106 Schmitttrigger / 4093 Quad NAND / 4006 18-stage Shift Register / 555 Timer IC

The recordings are experiments with DIY tone and noise generators, with Svann working systematically, exploring the unique features of the specific circuits of his lunchboxes on a track-by-track basis.

Track titles should be understood according to this classification, and consequently also the separation into part A and B. A number of rhythmical and enriched Bass’n’Noise tracks are mixed in between pure complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor tracks.

The release is conceived as a classic double album, with two covers, two titles and two chronologies regarding the tracks on the respective album. Please consider these chronologies.
