about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

Water Is The New Fuel

This music comes from the land of chaos; intuition and emotions interplay has led it to this singular form. It is not consensual, it is demanding, it asks the listener to step out of their comfort zone. But like slow burners, in the end, it brings a reward that is worth it. The first part is what I call “mantrawave”. The improvisations have been preserved as much as possible, maintaining their hypnotic character; to put it simply, these are the long version tracks of the album. The second part is what I call an “upgrade”, they have been developed to reach a new form, the musical aspect is emphasized; to put it simply, this is closer to an instrumental version. The last part is the “elemental edit”, where only the essential is kept.

It’s no coincidence if this recalls the distillation of alchemy. This complete version of the album is released almost two years after the elemental edit because something surprising happened during this collective cooperation. While I was looking forward to discovering the meeting of the two sonic lineages that have taught me the most in recent years, (besides the music with Studio 112 obviously, because its case is particular, being neighbors, we evolve together), we realized that Pete’s voice did not work with Gabriel’s music. Their approach to music was different, somewhat like two distinct elements :
– What happens if you bring fire and water together ?
You can’t simply mix them, but we didn’t give up; instead of choosing one or the other, as minds operating on exclusion would do, we chose to keep both and develop them, so we could study this amalgamation.

I don’t know what the future holds for our collaborations, but their past can provide some better understanding.

With Studio 112, the list would be too long, aside of Invisible Illusion, he is involved in PIRATE Tapes / Multiple Personality 3 /EVA Vertigo / TKno BeurK / rADio eNd / RefugEEs From Beyond…

With Gabriel Pereira Spurr under A Symbiotic Experience project :
Oneiric Sound / Open Source / Gesamtkuntswerk / Near Death Experience / Rebirth / Renaskigo
Also under our own names Dawn of the Damned
The album the closest to this one is probably Faust by PIRATE Tapes, where he participated with Studio 112. Also as good example to show how everything is linked, the instrumental of “We Don’t Fit Anymore” comes from Original Subversion, an unborn album of A Symbiotic Experience.

With Peter Hope & Studio 112 under rADio eNd project :
OddSchool / Underground Culture / Hum Antenna
There is another album without Studio 112 : Purple circle the french dissection.

The closest album to Weathering The Rocks is probably Hum Antenna, where the blues aspect is more pronounced in this one, in Hum Antenna, it is the psychedelia. So you may understand that regardless of the mask, only the musical flavor matters. This album is released under Invisible Illusion but could have been released just as well under the rADio eNd project if it weren’t so important to shed our skins to change and avoid turning into self-caricatures, slaves of our public image.

Among the roots, I should also mention The World Is Over! PIKADON & Necktar because these are the steps that led to the birth of this album.

I also invite you to read the words of Pete in the full presentation of the Elemental Edit :
“Tapping into the elements; rock, wind, fire & water… the very earth, the source of life & asking questions:
– Who’s making the decisions and the bad choices that damage & deplete, cause conflict, suffering & destruction?
How much have we given up or simply lost through our disconnection from the natural world, and how can it be retrieved?
Will self-importance be allowed to win the day and therefore define the terms of humanity’s decline?

Bring back the clatter & the drone, the mechanical clank, the smelting & shaping, the holler that sings out the rhythms of purposeful labor & truthful art. Bring us back our senses; the cold air, the hot sun, the rain, the storm & the sheltering from it. Let us breathe life again”

What else can I say? The lizard on the cover died in our water collector. It has placed this album under the sign of climate and social urgency. The two are linked, and there are many solutions, only malicious forces prevent their implementation on a large scale. So, I take my own actions on my scale. Since the time of this recording, I have bought solar panels, and I have never listened to so little music in my life; now I use headphones, only using my audio system with solar batteries. In my sink, I collect water in a basin to water the flowers and vegetables. We are flexitarians and degrowers since many years. When we go on vacation, we take the bus. We should have changed all our habits years ago. But better late than never. Even if it will never be enough compared to the harm caused by industries and the ultra wealthy.

This album could have been dedicated to the waves of climate change migrants who fall victim to the selfishness of colonial countries, but that is already more or less the dedication of “Refugees Welcome”. So, it is dedicated to our Mother Earth. It must be terrible that her own children render her uninhabitable. Although it’s only the most egocentric fringe of humanity, it’s up to the rest to take action. As we can see in ‘How to Blow Up a Pipeline,’ corporations and politicians are criminals responsible for the deaths of an indecent number of people and must be stopped by any means necessary.

There is a rusted flamingo in our garden, I found it in the street years ago… One of his wings is broken, and sometimes he lost his head.

You may notice that we have the same members in this both projects these days. Stu’ told me a few days ago, again, that for him there are no real differences between my projects, and he’s right, at least since there are nearly no more of my sampling projects active, most turning analogic like the last Wild Worm Web.
Each time it’s something different but coming from the same universe. This reminds me a lot the ST Noiz adage of buddies ardleg & KHAOMAN.
Stu’ told too, that for most musicians the way to produce our sound (recording live with a zoom and several speakers to give a chance for random chaos to make the better choice for us) is a heresy and that’s right, maybe a new form of beauty by Virgin Prunes crawled too much under my skin. To decipher this record it’s necessary to understand that in french there is a big misunderstanding about Pink Floyd. I don’t know why, but a lot of people think that mean pink flamingo. When anglophone knows that the pink “floyd” sound came from the blues.
Maybe as big as thinking that necrophile mean something usual when it’s mostly about to spread life in the ears of the dead. Also, perhaps because I enjoyed the “acoustic” approach that buddy Pete explored this year in the Hope Jasnoch Redundant Realities.
Before to play I suggested for guideline the rust. Sometime guidelines do not rebirth in the music but this time, for me, it sounds really a kind of rusty psychedelic postrock.
And while writing I thought about the Necrophile Hummingbird looking like this rusty flamingo in our garden, something surviving from the past, and the more I understand what happens, next year, I think it will be a frozen one for the netlabel. But there is already more to listen in our nest that the time of listen that have most of the people.
So good time to travel in time. To do again and again the same loop.
Or to free your mind.

Special thanks to Philip K. Dick who spelled us the name of the beast.

Dedicated to all whose will not loose their soul with artificial intelligence.
Or…
Dedicated to those who will mutate to be able to survive in a world that sick ?

Artwork by Stable Diffusion.
Rust reminds me of the tendency to abuse editing software to change the saturation of all images to make them prettier standardized, instead to set them in an accurate way. AI should be advised to read books on the art of using makeup subtly or to dig the real beauty. And the public should not forget that the prettiest flowers in appearance are often the most toxic.

Album title and project name came from a book by Jerzy Grotowski.

To present this album I wrote : In a world devoured by obscurity, a light from outside changes everything. Not because it tries hard to do it but because it is. Pass through the darkness and you’ll understand.
Next I found this quote of Jerzy Grotowski :
Art is a ripening, an evolution, an uplifting which enables us to emerge from darkness into a blaze of light.
When the weirdos members of REfugEEs From Beyond meet with Willy Marleen it’s to run the Office of Darkness…

Dedicated to those who practice dances and songs which promote the graft between ancient knowledge of the body and soul, expanding the field of theater or simply bringing it back closer to its origin.

I mean it’s like for children, it should be obvious to do not control them and to let them free to find their own ways because it’s one of the better ways to help them love life. To be clear if you have children let them come play music with you if they want, this world is so much under control, that it’s vital to help them feel how it’s good to feel free. After all the most important things in education next to love is to let them follow their dreams free. So :

Philippe Blache – Across the Silence and the Shade
[mhrk372]

Philippe Blache

“Across the Silence and the Shade”

With a sense of musical introspection, incantatory melodicism and cinematic dread Philippe Blache (from Day Before Us) goes back on the forefront with a highly thrilling melancholic drama for sonic driftscapes and devastating walls of power electronics tempered by organic ethereal vibes. Detached and evanescent melodies are battling against the obscured, unsettling, stormy and weary industrial atmosphere. Powerful internal narrations and incantatory voices at distance occasionally come into the mix. With its performative bitter anthems, its ritualistic then almost religious nature, the album invites the listener to be progressively mersed in a netwok of allusive images, investing pagan mythologies, poetical escapism and christian symbology. This is the second musical offspring signed under his own name after a prolific production under the moniker of “Day Before Us”, veteran project in sorrowful dark wave neoclassicism. «Across the silence and the shade» is an essential and mournful post-ambient journey which involves an emotional catharsis.

Released November 17, 2023 as free (cc) digital download and beautiful limited digipak CD edition.

Written, recorded and produced by Philippe Blache

The Necrophile Hummingbird presents … by ardleg

“Standby Music for Post Millenarians”

Will this collection of miniatures end up as telephone ringtones or data to feed Artificial inteIligences ?
This new record, prophetic in more than one way, seems to announce the end of transmissions. The particularity of a musical continuum is that through the force of repetition we imagine that it will always be there. But the best things must come to an end. Or rather the ending makes them better. Is the end always the beginning? Is this just a break? Who knows if there will be one after 2023 for this netlabel ? In theory yes, but… what characterizes the Necrophile Hummingbird is that it is a singularity, which should never have existed and which from the first moment threatened to disappear. And this every day for years.

With synthesizers and samplers, next with computer-assisted music, technology has had a Promethean role in liberating music from the old narrow shackles that Edgar Varese already denounced. Today in music and video the disruption of AI has almost the opposite effect for the moment, because what was offered to everyone thanks to freeware, is now only accessible in the form of a paid subscription. Which is paradoxical to say the least given that these companies do not have to pay to draw on the internet the works necessary for deep learning. And given the resources that the operation of an AI requires, there is little chance that free solutions will appear before the diffusion of quantum computers. In an increasingly unequal world, whoever lives will see, whoever hacks will survive.

Break On Beacons – An uninterrupted flow of images, shapes and colors…

Auto Draft

Break On Beacons

“An uninterrupted flow of images, shapes and colors…”

ENGLISH VERSION

What excitement when two artists that we have published separately with different projects join forces to release a first album together… and even more so when it sounds like an achievement. This is indeed the case of Break On Beacons, where we find at the beats Valgidrà from Rennes and at the synths Innocent But Guilty from Bordeaux (half of Wintermute, among others : indierockmag.bandcamp.com/album/rubber ), two French electronic musicians whose collaboration finds its origin in IBG’s remix and collective projects, in which Valgidrà took part several times. The later has been following the work of IBG for a while, finding common ground in his trip-hop/abstract fiber, while Foolish Records’ founder discovered the music of his new playmate through IRM Netlabel, particularly with the album “Watched Watchers” (indierockmag.bandcamp.com/album/watched-watchers) and the EP “Daily Grinders” recorded with Konejo (indierockmag.bandcamp.com/album/daily-grinders-ep), both released in 2021. From the start, when listening to this joint project whose name evokes the exploration of unmarked paths, the idea of getting off the beaten track and especially the limits that we unconsciously have imposed ourselves, we feel both in familiar territory and at the same time heading towards the unknown in a more cosmic way than expected from the two. We recognize the deep, dark and ethereal textures with subtle melodic patterns of IBG – whose sound seems to have evolved this last year from heavy and radical drone (cf. his brilliant Anteraks project along with Uburgründ from Romania) towards something more aerial, between electronica and trip-hop, and also Valgidrà’s signature beats at the crossroads of abstract groove and dry IDM as well as his sense of rhythmic vocal samples, on the title track for example. And yet, “An uninterrupted flow of images, shapes and colors…” constantly gives the sensation of tending towards unexplored horizons, somewhere between outer space and inner landscapes, an album which casts off towards an “elsewhere” made up of both sonic adventures and introspection, epic times and suspended moments, dreams and disillusionment. In a word : a gem !

REfugEEs From Beyond

“No Sales Allowed”

Do you remember myspace???
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there was a wonderful place called the cyberspace that was like an Eldorado for artists, except you didn’t have to kill its inhabitants to steal their property and land. .
In reality it was more about sharing resources freely, but I won’t tell you the full story of the Internet. Just know that there was a certain idea of a free world that emerged, it was a bit like a second chance for humanity to do not reproduce in virtual reality the errors of the real world. Unfortunately, we can date the death of this utopia with the arrival of Facebook and the massive invasion of settlers that followed. Myspace was therefore a sort of social network for artists and art lovers, to share, discover and collaborate, the ancestor of Soundcloud, and Bandcamp… At one point a horrible mobster called Rupert Murdoch decided to buy it. The artists were surprised to say the least, because as soon as he arrived he decided to show how powerful he was, for him since he owned it, he could do what he wanted with his new toy. He changed everything and removed, among other things, free downloading and triggered a real exodus. Myspace was dead, the website may have continued for a few years as a ghost ship, but nothing more. Today, in theory we should be talking about cicadas, but it doesn’t matter, it’s as if the colony of musical ants had gone crazy. After a first sale to Epic Games with the basic promise of respecting the spirit of Bandcamp, (promises only work for those who believe in them) Bandcamp is sold again, but this time no more promises and the buyer wants to fire the team that has been working for Bandcamp for years. What will the new buyer do with his toy? For him, is Bandcamp anything other than a brand with a huge customer base?
I could also talk about Free Music Archives, it was another very cool place for Creative Commons enthusiasts before it was sold.
Will the community of artists who broadcast their music on Bandcamp wait patiently for the next episode?
Or, following the example of Wire magazine, as many of us use Bandcamp,
Wouldn’t it be really cool to make it a sort of cooperative? Each artist contributing a little money to buy Bandcamp and then it could become a common resource for musicians and music lovers across the planet?
It would be a nice resurrection for the free world utopia ?

Well, I say that… but you will no doubt have noticed the explicit title of this album : No Sales Allowed. We don’t sell our music, both because we don’t want it becomes a merchandise and because we want to show what could be the world if everyone share its best. And for us this resource, this alternative to Bandcamp already exists, it’s called Internet Archive.

Dedicated to those who fight against colonization by commercial society by sharing their creations freely.

Fabio Keiner – Virgin Ghost

“Virgin Ghost”

‘virgin-ghost’ is my interpretation of an ancient korean legend and figure: ‘cheonyeo-gwishin’ the ghost of a virgin girl who died before getting married and therefore seeking vengeance – and a husband or lover amongst the living!

‘Arang, the daughter of a provincal governor, was killed by the man who tried to rape her and her body buried by the sea (where a shrine till today is attended in her memory). after her father left the province, each of his successors was killed by Arang’s revengeful virgin-ghost – till finally an intrepid young governor detected the crime, punished her murderer and exercised the ritual of ‘soul-wedding’ (yeonghongyeolhonsig) to placate her spirit and achieve peace after building arangak-shrine…’

Fabio Keiner is an ambient, dark ambient, abstract, drone, instrumental composer and photographer from Wien, Austria.

The Necrophile Hummingbird Netlabel presents SO Nice Youth by REfugEEs From Beyond.

“Unusual Noise Rock for No Wave People”

Live improvisation recorded the 11th August 2023 at the Cave Haven in Foucherans. During summer holidays at the beach I found this portal with “nice” write over, and so it makes “tilt” in my burning head, this was the key to decipher this mythical session improvised few weeks ago.
We all have been young at least once upon a time…

Dedicated to the youth of every country because it’s more than time to kick out every professional politicians or representatives of the deadly capitalist industries (or whatever the name you give to these corrupted agents of the world cancer) to build a better world.
