about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Pierce Murphy – Ellada

Pierce Murphy – Ellada

Pierce Murphy

“Ellada”

A journey to an ancient land to discover a love written in the stars, Ellada is Pierce Murphy’s neo-soul epic set in beautiful Greece. A direct sequel to the 2017 record To Japan, this album was written on location in various cities and islands of Greece, capturing the essence of stoic Crete, stunning Santorini, and sprawling Athens. This concept album furthers the real life story of a love that, while lost in Tokyo, came to life on the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.

With lo-fi beats, dreamy synthesizers, grandiose chorale arrangements, and Pierce’s trademark jazz-blues guitar and bass swagger, Ellada is designed to transport the listener to a place surrounded in mythic beauty. This concentrated reverence has resulted in Pierce’s most ambitious and passionate album to date.

Ghobi – Stele / Wollstonecraft

Ghobi – Stele / Wollstonecraft
[SR226]

Ghobi

“Stele / Wollstonecraft”

Ghobi are : Lele: guitars , effects, French horn
Giro: bass, effects
Palla: drums, percussions
Mastered by: Simone Giorgi

The “Wollstonecraft / Stele” project is a split within Ghobi itself, originating from works on improvisational and transversal material, where horn color most of the tracks creating atmospheres which can be dark and then turn into airier stanzas. The project is the result of transversal listenings that inevitably had a significant impact on the sounds and structures of the tracks. The recording is rather lo-fi by choice, bringing out the specific and living atmospheres of the parts which recorded live, and this would have otherwise meant losing its true nature. The project is divided ideologically into two parts: Wollstonecraft (more airy) and Stele (darker). We can’t forget to mention the vocal contribution on some occasions (on the tracks Julian date, Volgo, Eleven Days…) by Anna with whom we have active a collaborative project/ensemble named Wollstonecraft Air

“Bralitz Vol. 3”

Bralitz 2014 was special. Well, Bralitz is always special. But 2014 – „Aaahhwoo” – probably was our most distinctive and fun festival. Being our first two day festival, it took a lot of work preparing it. We even built an outside stage with our own hands, while getting eaten by mosquitoes.

Still we managed to record some music during the week. For the first time there was a song with German lyrics – that’s special, too.

Bralitz connoisseurs will surely miss Nicolas Falcon’s trade mark voice and songwriting – he couldn’t be there that year. But he will be back for one of the next chapters!

Luke Lund

“Sulkutila / Väännös (Stupor / Contortion)”

TERR112: Bandcamp are waiving their revenue share for March 20th 2020 to show support for artists afflicted by COVID-19.

Terranean Recordings presents a very special release — two pieces from the first ever Luke Lund live performance. Pay what you like.

“Sulkutila (Stupor)” explores the Casio SA-1 tone bank keyboard, emphasizing on subharmonics and resonance with custom analog reverbs and vintage tape compression.

“Contortion (Väännös)” is a composition made ‘out of nothing.’ Sounds from the harmonics of inaudible sine/square/sawtooth waves — both infra and ultrasonic. These are contorted by algorithmic sliding of pitch shift, time scale and noise reduction parameters.

Premiered at the launch party of SOUNDESTzine, October 3rd 2018, Oranssi, Helsinki.

Teruyuki Kurihara – The Oblivion

Teruyuki Kurihara – The Oblivion
[post037]

Teruyuki Kurihara

“The Oblivion”

This album is about oblivion. Oblivion, as a deep river of memories. People tend to forget everything, whether it is joy, sadness or regret. They repeatedly forget. But, these emotions don’t simply vanish. There are rather accumulated in the river of memory. At the turn of the season, almost out of the blue, memories come back. ‘The Oblivion’ is expressing the fragility of these forgotten memories, and Kurihara expresses this with the sounds of the guitar. It brings the listener on a journey into the deep and vast forest of oblivion. At times, a journey into deep waters. Stretched layers of sounds, deep ambient undercurrents. Hidden meanings lie amongst fragile (pieces of) tiny melodies. Just underneath the surface, the rumblings of forgotten memories twist reality into a different tomorrow. The old and outdated must be burned and destroyed in order for the new to resurface.

“Farewell”

An endless ending.
Or object of change.
Tears; that run dry.Matti T says goodbye to music producing. Hopefully it’ll be just for some time. His talent is brilliant. But it seems that he emptied himself in emotional and musical processes to some extent. Please enjoy his so far final release at Phonocake, a sixty minutes mix of old and new tracks.

WHΛLT THISИEY – Thismoornia

WHΛLT THISИEY

“Thismoornia”

The music of WHΛLT THISИEY is a solitary soundtrack to nowhere, a non-tourist map into the unknown; music and images to create new, fully immersive environments, an intriguing aural pilgrimage with no destination in time and space, nuances and labyrinths. WHΛLT THISИEY selects and mixes music for the mind and body in the same quantities that emerges from encounters between the past and the present, drawing beauty of the commonplace, wiping, polishing it, giving it life again, so to produce the same effect of the original freshness and spontaneity, a mirror that transforms it absorbs and reflects.

WHΛLT THISИEY mixes impressionist piano atmospheres, spoken wordcore, drone, experimental, library, hypnotic escapism music. WHΛLT THISИEY aka Fernando Cerqueira is the founder member of Thisco record label and publisher of Antibothis anthologies.

Fernando Cerqueira was the founder member of the late 80’s SPH tape / record label.

Fernando Cerqueira / WHΛLT THISИEY has several works released through Symbiose, Thisco, Illuminated Paths, Blocsonic, La Nostalgie de la Boue, Grain of Sound, HNM Rec. The Dubbstyle – Sun Is Dub

The Dubbstyle – Sun Is Dub
[DPH036]

The Dubbstyle

“Sun Is Dub”

The Argentinean dub monkeys are back! After being included in the compilation Explorations In Dub (2013), their guest appearance on the Red Star Martyr’s album Time for Tea (2014) and the release of their own album Simona (2015), the brothers Mauro and Federico Salina from Mentoza (ARG) are back with more vibrations.

Their new album is entitled Sun Is Dub and includes eight musical dub-works. Compared to their previous works, their 2019 sound is much more mature, which is normal for every artist who respect his work and strives to evolve.

Starting with Navidub and following with Combination (with a vocal sample of the classic Indian singer Shruti Katkar) the album is a journey into the dub sounds and the cultures of the world. Sometimes melodic and organic, other times rhythmical and heavyweight, the dub is to be heard in all eight tunes of the album. The last track Simona, is a reference to their previous album, newly re-done ft. Unidub Estereo.

George L Smyth – A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow

George L Smyth – A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow

George L Smyth

“A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow”

A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow was written in response to Disquiet Junto Project 0379: Open Studios

Step 1: The purpose of this week’s project is to provide participants opportunities to get feedback on works-in-progress. Consider work you’re doing you’d appreciate responses to from fellow Junto participants.
Step 2: Either upload an existing recording (sketches and mid-process takes may prove optimal), or record something new and post it online for feedback. If there are some things in particular you’d like feedback on, mention what they are.

A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow is, of course, a quote from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. I started writing it in response to the haiku by Portuguese author Corine Timmer:

the falling tide
tugs at my dream –
winter solstice

I was not able to complete the piece in time for inclusion with naviarhaiku272. I have returned to it off and on and am at a place comfortable where I believe that it can be shared.

A Dream Itself Is But A Shadow was written for Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trombone, Vibraphone, Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass.

Seeli Kuuppo – Kaamos

Seeli Kuuppo – Kaamos
[TERR110]

Seeli Kuuppo

“Kaamos “

TERR110: Boreal soundscape collage accompanied by the lull of balmy guitar. Seamless loop recorded over a week-long residency in Inari, Finland.

“I took part in a media workshop group’s travel to Inari, bringing together different artistic visions in order to gather a multimedia report of the Northern seasonal foliage, and ultimately organize a collective art exhibition. The residency was in a cabin beside Nukkumajoki river and my project in the group was to record the journey photographically and acoustically.

I was mesmerized by Inari’s fjelds, lakes and aurora-filled nights, the pristine flora surrounding Nellim near the Russian border and one particularly important place of interest was Siida Museum; a rich crash course on the indigenous Sámi culture, history and the seriously endangered Inari-Sámi language. To this day, Sámi people keep facing systematic discrimination in many aspects.

The loan word “Kaamos” doesn’t have a literal translation in English despite its unmissable significance in our culture. It could be split into two contexts: firstly the near literal translation “polar night” implying the geographical lack of sunrise, and secondly an associated mental state as a consequence: winter depression. The bane of northeners.

Post-trip, I recorded guitar to fit the field recording collage for a seamless audio installation loop as part of our touring mixed media art exhibition of the same name. The opening in December was at our workshop Vimma, with Turku Main Library to follow later in spring.”

Luke Lund / Half-Lifer – Most Foul Vices

Luke Lund / Half-Lifer – Most Foul Vices
[TERR109]

Luke Lund / Half-Lifer

“Most Foul Vices “

Terranean Recordings bolsters the roster with the first outing by hot-blood Half-Lifer, presenting six mucky fusions of industrial spoil and sound system technology misuse. Working back to back with Luke Lund, they open up a caustic rift to a world of adulterated electronics, spawning a slanted vision of rhythmic solutions lugged from the bruxist fringe of the ‘floor.

We kick off with Luke’s helpings of gut-punching pressure. “Pusher” balances with tricky percussive odd-time sleights and ‘woofer bombs while “Blazed” veers off the atmosphere to a frenzied narcotic mania twisting samples of wheezer laughs. Fun’s over and an air of darkness enters on “Dregs” with its ear-shredding skree.

Passing the ball to Half-Lifer; “Dump Truck” and its razor sharp slashes, skeletal patterns and precise kick drum weight. Corrosive slurry textures dominate on the crunched out roughage of “Trash Compactor”. The EP signs off with nigh-beatless “Under” full of dread, tectonic low end movement and carefully placed shudder-inducing No U-Turn -esque shockout stabs.

All foreshadowing the imminent Half-Lifer debut album “Trigger Stacking” on Barely Here, of course.

Toni Dimitrov & DR – Braunschweig Sessions

Toni Dimitrov & DR – Braunschweig Sessions
[post029]

Toni Dimitrov & DR

“Braunschweig Sessions”

Newest in the series of Toni Dimitrov’s collaborations is the album with the German artist Dominic Razlaff AKA DR. “Braunschweig Sessions” is the result from this collaboration, showing in front of the listener the infamous soundscapes of long form drone explorations of which DR is known for, merged with the subtle affection for field recordings infused ambience characteristic for Toni Dimitrov. Field recordings were provided by Toni Dimitrov, which are afterwards processed by DR, or layered with processed (granular synthesis) Ukulele and Synthesizer, arranged by both artists. Recorded on various destinations around Macedonian nature, this material is a reflection of a nice, subtle, calm and peaceful journey. With its ranges and spectrum from more subtle soundscapes to rawer and at times even unnerving sound experiments, this work is a direct presentation of the works of both artists, now connected in joint work. This is the first in the forthcoming series of collaborative works by these two prolific soundscape designers.
