about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

“…los sonidos intentan recuperar una narrativa de paisajes escuchados en la arqueología de otras músicas y otros discursos. No hay fusión. En todo caso, hay una épica. Los roles de voz principal y acompañamiento se disuelven y reconstruyen, jugando entre lo idiomatico y lo diferente en busca del extrañamiento…” – L. Conde

Lamont Kohner – Nightly

Lamont Kohner – Nightly

Lamont Kohner

“Nightly”

Lamont Kohner once again graces our catalog with NIGHTLY, another two-track single of oil-slicked techno chug and abandoned factory-floor bass. Backed with CHROMATOSE, these two cuts once again assert that Kohner has the hands of an old master, dominating a dancefloor while remaining just elusive enough to continually reveal hidden peaks and valleys inside the wash of low end and nightlife neon. NIGHTLY recalls a bit of Rhythm & Sound / Main Street classic dub thump before getting impatient and riding some cymbal over a slo-mo house kick and clap. CHROMATOSE spaces out the space even more, with a distant woodblock that could just as easily be heard through a wet drain coming up from a standpipe, and chords doubling the claps that remind us a little of classic Kompakt schaffel and Speicher barnburners. Just a drop on the tongue, you wouldn’t dare take any more of this into your system!

Nicolas Tourney – Ram

Nicolas Tourney – Ram
[BN_LP028_02_20]

Nicolas Tourney

“Ram”

Nicolas Tourney is a french experimental musician and sound designer, also owner of the label Snow in Water Records. With Ram, he offers us an electronic work focused on perception and act of listening, with the use of various sound devices and drones. Ram is a work in-progress with long-sustained tones. Ram submit to the listener some perceptual experience: there would be a “sound” as object of perception and source of this same perception. This held sound that we dress by calling it a soundscape, spacing exploration from the gesture. Look at what draws us to a sound, how listening gets caught up in it, and how it draws our attention to an experience. Ram sounds like a suspense that opens onto interiority. In this silence, the listener finds himself contemplating the act of listening, as if it is the constant noise of natural electricity.

A Hundred Drums – A Hundred Drums

A Hundred Drums – A Hundred Drums

A Hundred Drums

“A Hundred Drums”

Denver-based producer A Hundred Drums demonstrates her wide array of instrumental talents and genre diversity on her self-titled album, available this Valentine’s Day on Gravitas Recordings. Sitting comfortably at seven tracks, this album is Gabrielle Watson’s most ambitious project to date.

Detouring from the deep dubstep sounds that first made a splash in the scene, Watson uses A Hundred Drums to create her own sound and break away from familiarity by showcasing her vast musical influences.

The Valentine’s Day release date and self-titled album is a symbol of what A Hundred Drums intends to accomplish: “A Hundred” was chosen for its spiritual and societal primacy, and “Drums” call our hearts to beat in sync. A Hundred Drums aspires to align all listeners’ heartbeats to her BPM, unifying us all in the music. We beat with one collective heart on the day celebrating love.

A tribute to her passion project, “Shakti Sound” sets listeners on a globetrotting journey into mysterious and minimalistic 808s. A Hundred Drums puts a spotlight on her signature hand drums in “Circles,” which blend in an abstract, downtempo experimental soundscape before James Xavier sings of a wicked flame. Dashing down the dark road, A Hundred Drums tells the haunted tale of the “Boogie Man,” slicing through inky blackness with an eerie bassline and haunting whispers.

“Psy.Area” incorporates cascading psytrance as liquid bass is gradually dripped onto the track. Featuring A Hundred Drums’s first official collaboration with fellow Denver artist, Templo, “Apex” rides the wave through a cave of deep dub and metallic beats. Vibe Emissions “Circles” back to offer an energizing remix of the aforementioned song, incorporating various deep dubstep rhythms and textures. Legendary producer Leon Switch remixes “Lord of Tings,” released originally by Heavy Traffic Recordings and featuring Jayne Gray, into a seductive stupor, closing out A Hundred Drums’s self-titled album in a state of bliss.

Laurent Fairon – QUIRKS

Laurent Fairon

“QUIRKS”

Hi, there,

Maybe you’ll fing something to your tastes in my new project QUIRKS:

https://laurentfairon.bandcamp.com/album/quirks

The blurb:
The QUIRKS mini album combines various scattered audio remains –vinyl detritus, found sounds and spoken word– to produce new sound chimeras and audio collages with a life of their own.

The QUIRKS concept and methodology were inspired by a famous US boardgame from the 1980s, where cards of various animal parts combine to create new, imaginary creatures – the cover artwork chosen for this Bandcamp album intended to emulate the mood as well.

This project is also indebted to US provocateurs Bill Buchanan and Dickie Goodman, who pioneered the “break-in” record in the 1950s, or plunderphonics avant la lettre.

Best,

Laurent Fairon

Scenes from Suburbia – Cousin Silas & Candy L

Scenes from Suburbia – Cousin Silas & Candy L
[waag_rel136]

Scenes from Suburbia

“Cousin Silas & Candy L”

For me, it is wonderfully bittersweet to release “Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)” by Cousin Silas & Candy L so close to Candy’s birthday … I’m not sure how old she would have been if she had not lost her battle against cancer and, to be honest, it doesn’t matter … what matters is that the world and our wee community of DIY ambient musicians is considerably poorer for her not being with us.

“Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)” was created in collaboration between the adorably prolific Cousin Silas and Candy, who somehow managed to fit in recording her parts to their album while running a netlabel that I, for one, was equally proud and envious of. Candy’s work ethic was unparalleled, as was her creative expression. The atmospheric expressions contained within this album are truly extraordinary, they are varied and engaging … and serve to remind us how much poorer we are for not having Candy in our midst.

This album was earmarked for release on Candy’s label – Studio 4632 – but wasn’t released due to Candy’s untimely passing. I don’t think I am alone in thinking that Candy would not have wanted it to languish on the digital equivalent of a dusty shelf, Cousin Silas certainly didn’t think so when he offered it to waag. I am proud to give this album a home and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

A 320kbps version of this release is available here for free with a lossless version available over on Bandcamp for ‘pay what you want’.

Mariano Rodriguez – Huesos Secos

Mariano Rodriguez – Huesos Secos

Mariano Rodriguez

“Huesos Secos”

We are very pleased and grateful to share Huesos Secos (Dry Bones), by Mariano Rodríguez through Carbono Proyecto Records. The idea has been brewing for a long time now, but as we know, in our sound, musical and self-managed projects, if we have anything, it is the freedom to let the processes flow until the ideas and personal planets align.

It’s been already four years since we last published a disc by this guitar artist-craftsman-monk based in Bariloche for a couple of decades. It was Praise the Road, first edited by the American label Grass-Tops Recordings and currently available through his own bandcamp. Anyway, he frequently participates in various compilations that range from the experimental to specific tributes such as the recent one to Jack Rose, another of Mariano’s acoustic guitarists of reference.

In many ways inspired by the logic of the “American primitive guitar” (a term that designates a “transitional” genre according to Wikipedia, to which a legion of guitarists from pioneer John Fahey in the 50-60s, through Leo Kottke, Robbie Basho and the aforementioned Jack Rose until today), Mariano Rodríguez’s music does not focus on the technical deployment of the guitarist, but on the more spiritual or meditative dimension of it. And in connection with all this, although not as conditioning, of course, his deep Christian faith intervenes since his adherence to the theology of Third World liberation. Listen for example to Liberation Theology for beginners, described by him as a Christmas album.

Somehow the tracks that make up Huesos Secos synthesize the mental and sound journey that Mariano started with his family in southern Argentina. This experience was also rooted in half of his life living in Buenos Aires, forming part of different rock and punk bands, and projects with the excellent singer-songwriter Adrián Paoletti among others. But without a doubt his current music is an inseparable part of a Patagonia that he has made his own, resignifying a whole set of influences, which finally act as tools to establish a back and forth movement with his perception of those places of the Argentine interior and its story.

Tijana Stanković – Freezer

Tijana Stanković – Freezer
[LOM17]

Tijana Stanković

“Freezer”

Freezer is an album of raw and emotive improvisations by Serbian violinist-vocalist Tijana Stanković. Her chosen theme, the proverbial ‘freezer’, makes for a stark setting, serving as both a musical metaphor and literally the echoey meat freezer in Bratislava where the music was created and recorded. “Freezer is a place of cruelty and hope,” Stanković says. “It is a metaphor – an inner place where thoughts and feelings wait to be addressed.”

Though a dedicated free improviser, Stanković’s background in folk and Ethnomusicology puts her in touch with an ancient emotional syntax. Her key tools – violin and vocals – both yearn with an organic and creaking fragility, tied irrevocably to old cultures. As a means to express, they offer boundless possibilities (something Stanković has long explored in a vast array of collaborative groups, ensembles, and projects), but locker herself in the Freezer, on these recordings Stanković gains access to some potent introverted sonic realms, putting them in stasis to keep them at their most genuine, honest, and revealing. “To freeze,” she explains, ”is to preserve.”

Each of the four lengthy improvisations captured on Freezer takes its aesthetic to a logical endpoint. For example, ‘From dust and shine’ is a trip into gentle bow strokes over jarring and… more
