about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek – Cantos a la grieta encendida

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek – Cantos a la grieta encendida
[pn227]

Valentina Maza and Veronica Zondek

“Cantos a la grieta encendida”

The story of Vagido, the poetry book by Verónica Zondek, is intense and extensive. The first publication in 1990 (Ediciones Embalaje, Colombia) took its author by surprise. The second edition appeared the following year at Editorial Último Reino in Buenos Aires. It wasn’t until 2014 that we encountered it in Chile, thanks to Alquimia Ediciones, in a special release that included a new poem, a work of poetic art, fragments of interviews, and critical texts. A perfect box set, as we might call it in musical terms.

Some of these texts are heard in Cantos a la grieta encendida, ), this album published by Pueblo Nuevo, a label that, while offering its productions for digital download, takes care to surround the music with reviews, credits, and artwork, all those elements that belonged to the album covers of our cassettes and CDs and that have now disappeared inside streaming lists. Thanks to this information, then, we can learn in more detail that, in addition to Verónica Zondek‘s poems, Valentina Maza composed, produced, interpreted the machines and violas, and participated in the mixing. A mix, by the way, in which the author’s voice is predominantly in the foreground most of the time.

In the epilogue to the second edition of Vagido, María Teresa Adriasola (Elvira Hernández) warned of “the phonic redundancy of this poetry (internal rhymes, alliterations, assonances, annomination, etc.), repetitions that also extend in words, verses, without harmonizing. These sounds, producers of a concert of disconcerting internal echoes, beats, clatter, are relentless, and their discord is part of the anguishing migraine that surrounds childbirth and the wails of the newborn.” It is very valuable to read this description in light of the interpretation that unfolds here: fragmented words, detached from their pronouns, where some playful acts stand out, like the “T” of the first track (which, as noted in a footnote of the book, refers to both the dative condition and the “T” of the intrauterine device, as well as the first letter of the name Tamara and “anything else that can be attributed to the sound of that letter that drumrolls and makes itself present”). These repetitions remain rooted in a constant rhythm, where the anxiety of the pulsations that are piling up is perceived.

“She found the rhythm”, Verónica tells me about the music that Valentina Maza created after recording her voice. And she has also created a completely different dimension. If we imagine the interior space as a flow of slow and muted sounds, here the exterior emerges, and we can hear birds, winds, stars, galactic explosions, as real as unreal, populating an immense landscape. A symbol comes to mind, the mandorla, wherein the superimposition of two circles produces an almond shape that, as Juan Eduardo Cirlot explains, represents the “union, the zone of intersection and interpretation” of the upper and lower worlds, of heaven and earth, and also represents “the perpetual sacrifice that renews creative force through the double current of ascent and descent (appearance, life and death, evolution and involution”.

I believe I have heard something of that sacrificial character in some specific moments where the scraping on the viola’s strings sounds with clear definition, those strings that must be sufficiently tense to vibrate. Perhaps in this we can find the point of greatest connection between Valentina Maza ‘s music and Verónica Zondek‘s poetry, for whom the word “must sometimes twist to find the way it returns to be charged with meaning. (…) Poetry estranges the word from its natural habitat to make it speak. The poetic word stretches an unquestioned reality.” Let’s adjust our eyes, our ears, and our bodies to vibrate in sympathy with that same tension.

Makunouchi Bento

“Povestea mea 2 (Original Music by Makunouchi Bento)”

The original soundtrack we made for Reniform’s “Povestea mea 2” / “My Story 2”.
These are not songs, but background sonic illustrations, meant to play along with AR 3D animations and people telling their stories. Normally, they are designed to play continuously: there are 3 looped audio tracks, of different length, for each “song” – when played together, the overall sense of repetition is less obvious.
Here you can listen to short, ~2m rendered demos. We strongly advise you to download the album, find the 9 images included in the archive, install the Reniform app on your smartphone and use it to see the whole thing. The texts / vocal tracks are Romanian only.

Julian Winter

“Slow Movement”

Julian’s slow and cinematic debut EP eases the senses while taking you back to a time when things were easier and the world was a cozy and loving place.

The EP contains a lot of laid back tunes with minimal drumming, accompanied by a wide range of enviromental foley sounds, which even further give the impression of travelling through the memories of things that once were.

Alltogether a great EP for either listening or for use under video productions.

Jayson Hernandez – Flayte Neo Sur

Jayson Hernandez – Flayte Neo Sur
[pn226]

Jayson Hernandez

“Flayte Neo Sur”

“Flayte Neo Sur” summarizes the methodologies of 10 years of sound composition for performing arts by the composer Jayson Hernández (1992). The main inspiration for this work is the collaboration with five electroacoustic composers: Valentina Aguilera, Ariel Fernández, Matias Alarcón, Antonia Valladares and José Miguel Candela, who, in a featuring capacity, contribute to the composition of the album.

The album comprises 5 pieces, each of which is infused with elements inspired by Granja Sur, multifocality, and the re-signification of a territory that emerged post-dictatorship in Chile, located in the southern outskirts of the capital. Each piece is associated with an aphorism proposed by the composer. The invitation was to improvise in an electroacoustic key and then compose based on this experience, induced through a somatic practice that allowed a connection with the archives and repertoires of the geography.

Inspired by observation and recording, the album seeks to challenge the concept of the periphery from a political perspective. Its primary influences are local artists from the southern area of the capital, such as muralist Oficio Erico and the UFO Group, poet Juan Carreño and the Vlop Cinema Collective. The album also reflects on aesthetic experiences in peripheral territories, particularly in Granja Sur and its surroundings, where the composer gathers local testimonies and symbols as elements that shape the soundscapes of the compositions.

sevensy

“Reckoning (Creation)”

released November 2, 2023

sevensy (aka Austin Brooks) creates music that directly facilitates imaginal sojourns, wherein the message is the sound itself. sevensy mixes electronic and natural sounds with processed guitars and acoustic instruments and has released his music with Mahorka from the time of the label’s inception.

His musical themes ‘unfold into an unusual landscape’ so that it is often impossible to tell where one ends and another begins.

“Form emerges, as fragile as a snowdrop’s blossom, as solid as a mountain, then recedes and is transformed. Awareness witnesses the interplay of all things. “Reckoning (creation)” aims to musically depict this metamorphosis. Acoustic or treated electric guitar forms the basis of every piece, though this may not be evident upon first listening. Layers of synthesisers and bass are interwoven with fragments of melodies that coalesce and dissolve.”

Jonny3snareS

“Attack, Decay”

Wires, knobs, keys, a modular synth rack. Jonny3snareS’ twisted, plugged, pressed his home studio equipment to birth eight braindance tracks in the style of the greats – as one residing in Cornwall should. A blizzard of acid bleeps and blips, pounding drum patterns, good vibrations and a touch of melancholy; a mixture wonderfully crafted for ravers and couch listeners alike. Attack, Decay is just that: it punches your eardrums and dance buttons with shrapnel synth shot and rhythms on one track, then turns things around with nostalgic melodies and more laid-back beats.

LYNN NANDAR HTOO

“Jamadevi”

Jamadevi is a meditative composition consisting of 6 tracks produced by Myanmar sound designer, Lynn Nandar Htoo unmasking the brutality of the political event that happened in 2021 in Myanmar through her sentiments of sound designing & storytelling. Lynn Nandar Htoo’s EP explores minimalistic tones overlapping syncopated Myanmar traditional percussions that creates a hypnotic effect – slowly transitioning into dronelike territory synchronized by subtle noises & glitches. Fascinated with traditional tunings and compositions that resembles her Myanmar cultural traditions, Lynn Nandar Htoo integrates the rhythmic essence of Nat Pwel, a ritual that is led by a queer character into haunting ambience depicting the alienation that many has felt since the condemned political event. Jamadevi is an enigmatic piece of electronic music work that yearns to form dialogues of displacement between sound & the effects of politics through her intricate compositions.

Lynn Nandar Htoo is a sound designer, composer & music producer based in Yangon, Myanmar accomplished in both the realm of filmmaking & electronic music. She explores Southeast Asian tuning systems and scales through modern music technologies and was chosen to be part of South East Asia’s music research development by Nusasonic & »Listening to the World – 100 Years of Radio«, an initiative of Goethe Institute.

“genealogija C: 2019”

The final part of entropija live retrospective gathers together excerpts from three separate events and three home sessions.

What may be the most diverse package yet, “genealogija C” features glitches, fractured post-IDM beats, violent bursts of feedback, mutated radio transmissions, minimal synth loops, electroacoustic manipulations and electrifying hostile noise attacks, that all somehow flow organically into each other.

The album trespasses different genre territories by walking on the edge between cohesion and total break-down. This is entropija live experience at its most adventurous.

9VoltDisaster

“Film Space”

This album undertakes an experimental journey through the realm of short films that have crossed my path. Its intricate melodies weave sonic landscapes that breathe life into scenarios existing solely within my dreams, mirroring the narratives of ordinary souls adrift in the vast cosmos.

As the music unfolds, it metamorphoses into a vessel, carrying listeners to distant galaxies, where shimmering starships navigate celestial highways, and the boundless cosmos beckons with its unfathomable mysteries. Within these intricate layers of sound, the memories of ordinary individuals lost in the cosmic expanse and encounters with celestial entities come to life, resembling living constellations adorning the canvas of space and time.

Film Space serves as a radiant portal to nostalgia, an auditory journey that invites us to cherish our precious planet over the relentless pursuit of new worlds, echoing the wisdom found in classic science fiction tales.

It stands as a testament to the eternal power of human imagination, where the echoes of retrofuturism resonate, encouraging us to protect our Earth and explore uncharted territories within our dreams and aspirations.

Roberto Massoni

“Floreas Unn Fauneth”

“Silent Revolution”

New EP “Silent Revolution” from Adrien d’Elzius (formerly known as hosmOz) shows different facets of real IDM music: while taking the roots from the masters of the genre, with the trademark glitches, clicks and cuts, it has its own unique face with all the subtle melodies and atmospheres – and everything between the lines. As everyone else, artists have to find their place and purpose, and in this increasingly cold and surreal world, invaded by artificial intelligence technologies, the task can be delicate. The only revolution worth carrying out is an inner revolution, and the track titles give a clue to where to look to find inspirations from those who can light a candle in our inner chaos.

Fields Ohio- Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire

Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire

Fields Ohio – Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire

Fields Ohio

“Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire”

LINER NOTES

—–
ENGLISH VERSION

Although not featured in our website’s columns as often as other projects by New Yorker Eddie Palmer (including Cloudwarmer, Aries Death Cult or the late great The Fucked Up Beat, in addition to his solo albums), this more acoustic and psychedelic duo associating him with multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Christine Annarino has shown great consistency over the span of its ten years of existence, with about fifteen releases so far.

After dropping earlier this year the excellent “Valkyrie”, representative of the band’s signature sound somewhere between mystical trip-hop with “world music” elements, densely arranged downtempo psychedelics and hedonistic electronic touches, we imagined that Fields Ohio would go on with that “great Ninja Tune era” trademark with its follow-up. Not exactly though ! Even if “Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire” remains consistent with that henceforth well-known DNA, it also gives the two musicians the opportunity to subtly reinvent themselves. The beats here are often more subdued, the textures more dreamlike and bursting with reverb in tune with Eddie’s scintillating synth pads, Christine’s acoustic and vocal lines melt into the whole with more homogeneity, and the melodies’ fluidity evoke water, an omnipresent element on the record.

The contemplation of the Hudson River from his New York apartment or his outings by the ocean indeed help Eddie Palmer to focus on the present, another central theme of the album. “Don’t Stare at the Sun When Your Hands are on Fire” thus sounds like a reminder, in these moments of chaos that life has in store for us: facing the problems one by one, one day after another, without worrying too much about a still distant and abstract future. So many sensations – the horizon, impermanence and abstraction – which preside over the impressionistic and hypnotic groove of this impressive new collection of instrumentals.
