about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Ron Zakrin – Wait for Tomorrow

Ron Zakrin

“Wait for Tomorrow”

Wait for tomorrow is the second release by Ron Zakrin on Equal Recordings. This time around, Zakrin piled on the tracks to make a seamless LP worthy of some deep listening. Following a couple of challenging years filled with loss and injury, Zakrin brings to bear the tools of experience required to convey the ebb and flow of life- from the light hearted Italo arcade anthem “Burgertime” to the scowling, fuck all anarchism of “Storm the Ramparts”, Zakrin delivers a 12 track ride through a sonic environment that will move you physically and emotionally.

Tomoroh Hidari –

Tomoroh Hidari –
[mhrk248]

Tomoroh Hidari

“小さな夢達”

This is Tomoroh Hidari (Ivory Bunker Records, Record Label Records, Isolate Records) first new album since 2012’s Some Stars not yet Black Holes, featuring tracks mostly composed over the last 2 or three years, with 1 or 2 going back even further.
Its texture is composed of a mix of field recordings, samples, lush synth pads and heavy basses and intricate beats; while guitars, melodica, toy and Theremin – all played by Hidarisan himself – also make an appearance.

Sword of no Sword
空 (read: ku – meaning: emptiness. In the Buddhist/Zen meaning)
Owl-Stretching Time
秋 (read: aki – meaning: autumn)
A Temple in Yamagata Prefecture)
Sketches of Pain

(Chiisana Yumetachi) – translates as “Small Dreams”: In a world where we’re constantly told to dream big, it is about the Zen of the moment. It is about observing our thoughts and dreams: letting them come and go, rather than chasing after them.
The songs themselves are little vignettes, dealing with Zen (空/Ku) and Samurai philosophy (Sword of No-Sword – inspired by Miyamoto Musashi’s Book of 5 Rings), absurdism (Owl-Stretching Time), cats (猫ホップ/Nekohop), memories (山寺/Yamadera) and finish with a farewell to melancholy (Sketches of Pain).

Review:

SMOK – Brain Damage

Who is behind this curious musical project called SMOK? It is a question I made to myself a couple of years ago after listening to a collab between Andrés and Nicolás (a.k.a Slang). Time has passed and I have discovered that this curiousity comes from Andrés, who is music studious and part of the new generation of producers from Quinta Región. Brain Damage is the result of his curiosity. Accelerated beats, bass drums, violent boxes and acid basses; a sharp chaos which is tidied up within mysterious and obscure melodies. An album that brings me back to the 90’s and spotting strong influences of the electro, such as Underground Resistance, Drexciya, Aux88, or Radioactive Man, among others. Nineties reminiscence that mixes technological advance and that succeeds in locating us nowadays, thus giving life to an album which treasures the origins of the electro-techno, but at the same time adapts perfectly to the present.

SMOK – Brain Damage

“from scratch”

“from scratch” balances a fascinating technical approach with a playfulness and accessibility. Tracks like “v1-pt ” and “International Girls ” make great use of vocal snippets, bringing a human touch to the code-driven music. Elsewhere there are infectious rhythms ranging from the abstract to straighter techno grooves. There is a lot going on in these tracks and the album benefits from repeat listens, allowing the intricate sound design and structures to emerge.

The 2nd of four EPs.

/// a word from the crew ///
“bologna jacks is bringing you three more jackers, just because we feel it right now.
three more stops on our world-tour, jersey, helgoland and alcatraz, classic acid with +/- carefully crafted environmental field recordings.

/// PRODUCTION NOTES ///
The basic tracks for this 4-part album were recorded at the SlackJackerz radio show, februrary 21, 2020.
And the whole live jam, with a bit of editing by erhalder, was replayed MadWasp’s lobit radio The Lowdown.

60 minutes of live jamming with a pomodoro timer set to 5minutes, resulted in 12 sketches. these sketches were arranged and mixed down to 12 original tracks.

Acid Gert vs. Erhalder

“12 Places To Jack (Season One)”

Acid Gert is jamming against cancer with the support of erhalder. Everytime some downloads our EP for free, one of my tumors shrinks a little bit. Because I have several tumors, we have split 12 Places to Jack into 4 parts, symbolizing the four wonderful natural seasons but also the progress of my cancer. The more you listen or dance to this first EP you will help me against the newest and smallest tumors. While with the latest EP you help kill the more elderly cells. Nah, just kidding with this esoteric stuff, but now for the real shit:

If you donate some money on Bandcamp, you’ll help me, a not yet 40 years old cancer kid in his final stage to buy some audio equipment he ever wanted, and maybe to build something like a small home studio
Help me live a bit longer and donate the $$$ you saved during the COVID-19 crisis for example because you couldn’t go to parties or bars.

The tracks are taken from a slackjackerz.com jam by Acid Gert & Erhalder in January 2020. A pomodoro timer, set to 5 minutes provided the basic structure and resulted in a dozen tracks. The tracks were re-arranged, produced and re-edited by erhalder.
A small variation of this live jam by erhalder was played at underground radio station The Lowdown.

This is the first part of a series of four releases. They will each be released a month apart, and always on the 1st.

10 bands from France, Belgium and Switzerland are playing with the music from all over the world.

Brainquake – Adrift

Brainquake – Adrift
[mhrk247]

Brainquake

“Adrift”

Brainquake is Marc, originating from the mail-art/tape-art scene in the late eighties and composing and collecting sounds since then under this moniker and few others. Ranging from ambient, soundcollages to electro, dark wave, from noise to industrial or even poplike tunes embedded in electronics or, the way he himself labels his sounds on recent releases, “endzeit emotronica”, the music of Brainquake is allways lengthy, strong in build-up and quite often heavily emotional.

On “Adrift” we hear Brainquake as a deja vu from his first releases: an intro, an outro, dissonants blending into bleakness, waves of emotion rumbling. The feeling of being adrift in a world of depravity and desillusion. Brainquake’s music takes time, time to evolve and time to be taken in. It’s about chaos blending in structure and blending out again. There seems to be no place for optimism in here but, in the distance, or in the details, there allways is. These sounds and this overwhelming sadness you feel like bad chemical taste from within, are not to simply to be listened to but to be unavoidably felt. Patience and darkness are our friends.

Released July 3, 2020

All sounds collected and processed February-May 2020
Recorded during a live session on May 2 2020 at Hemel Centraal, Belgium.

WHΛLTHISИEY – Thisplode

WHΛLTHISИEY – Thisplode

WHΛLTHISИEY

“Thisplode”

The music of WHΛLTHISИEY is a solitary soundtrack to nowhere, a non-tourist map into the unknown; music and images to create new, fully immersive environments, an intriguing aural pilgrimage with no destination in time and space, nuances and labyrinths.
WHΛLTHISИEY selects and mixes music for the mind and body in the same quantities that emerges from encounters between the past and the present, drawing beauty of the commonplace, wiping, polishing it, giving it life again, so to produce the same effect of the original freshness and spontaneity, a mirror that transforms it absorbs and reflects, telescoping the past through the present. WHΛLTHISИEY has a necessity to reimagine time even as time runs out.
WHΛLTHISИEY is interested in ideas that flows and materialize in different ways. WHΛLTHISИEY is more interested in experiencing the intensity of a thing and its uniqueness ( Thisness )

Gurdonark and Lee Rosevere – Harmony

Gurdonark and Lee Rosevere – Harmony

Gurdonark and Lee Rosevere

“Harmony”

This project began over 2 years ago, when Gurdonark posted a tweet to MrDoob’s online art-site Harmony, and I suggested we each draw four pictures, and then other had to compose a piece of music to match the drawings.

Through many delays (including a cross-country move for myself) the drawings and songs were completed and you can see each drawing by clicking on the title of the song. If the music is by Gurdonark, the corresponding drawing is by Lee, and vise versa.

Gurdonark:
“Although I resist the impulse to believe that all instrumental music should trace back to a narrative or image in the way of a tone poem, I find my own music frequently arises from a feeling or a tells a kind of story. I liked that in these songs the two artists each created a single-image narrative, however simple and unadorned, and then used one another’s images to create new songs. A bit like a shape-note singing, the important thing was not the skill or lack of skill in the creation of the images or the music. The important thing, in image or song, was to participate and share..”
