There was a time when the single had a clear and almost unquestioned purpose within the music industry: to service radio. Three minutes, a tight structure, an immediate hook—everything engineered for rotation and repetition. Radio airplay promised visibility, legitimacy, and mass circulation, yet this system was never neutral. Mainstream radio has long functioned as a gatekeeping apparatus, filtering out independent music in favor of commercial priorities and market-friendly aesthetics. Within this landscape, the underground inherited the single not as a genuine point of entry, but as a relic of a system that consistently shut its doors.
“Radio Singles”, the new EP by Potenciómetro (René Roco, Polwor & Mika Martini), engages this legacy with a sense of irony. At its center lies “Qué es lo que quieres, baby” (“What Is It That You Want, Baby”), presented in two versions: one produced and performed by the trio, and another generated through artificial intelligence, as if the track itself were questioning its own function. The lyrics lean deliberately into irony, oscillating between commentary and parody, while the production pushes toward an electronic sound tinged with seventies nostalgia—an echo of a radio dial that few are still listening to.
The EP closes with “Gliptodontes en fuga” (“Glyptodonts on the Run”), a track built for the dance floor, where hypnotic rhythms, erratic textures, and spectral voices converge without seeking approval or validation. If the first gesture undermines the single as a format, the second reclaims it through motion: a reminder that irony, too, has a body -and can still make you move.

“Hikari” se mueve entre el ambient y la experimentación desde gestos mínimos que se expanden lentamente. Son piezas extensas, calmadas, que no buscan explicarse demasiado: música para escuchar sin apuro, dejar correr y perderse un rato dentro.
“Hikari” moves between ambient and experimentation through minimal gestures that slowly unfold. These are long, calm pieces that don’t try to over-explain themselves: music to be listened to without haste, to let run its course and get lost in for a while.
Although the title “Drones postquimio” places the listener in a specific context -reinforced by extended sound materials, namely “drones”- José Gallardo ’s album presents a series of electroacoustic pieces that, while serene and close to an ambient sensibility, contain gestures and articulations that are both delicately handled and highly crafted. These fine details reflect a form of sonic composition rooted in a broad background in electroacoustic music.
The use of tonal elements embodied in synthesized textures, certain repetitive cells, and the aforementioned atmospheric sense of rhythm situate the work within a hybrid territory, at the intersection of traditions such as tape music, ambient and its subgenres, and certain traits of German kosmische Musik. In this way, tonality fades in some passages, as in the piece “4,4”. At other moments, the sound becomes abrasive through raw synthesis and the deployment of mono tracks on each channel -effectively dissociating the stereo field- as heard in parts of the piece “5”.
In the closing tracks, “6,6” and “coda”, rhythmic sequences emerge, both carrying a hint of tonal illusion interwoven with darker elements.
The seven pieces, all brief, seem to invite reflection, encouraging the listener to sink into a fleeting sensation or emotion, distancing themselves from the familiar “chill” territories of ambient, the mysticism of drone, or the excessive articulation of more traditional electroacoustic music.

𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐊 !!!! is a collaborative mixtape curated by Obituary Hermit & ᴋᴀꜱꜱɪᴀɴ ᴋᴏᴜʏᴀᴋɪɴ, designed as a way to bring together different artists from the underground internet music community, regardless of their respective musical genres and offer them a way to experiment and express themselves with absolute creative freedom.
All of the artists present on the tape were asked to make one or two tracks with no limitation at all. This text below was sent to each of them to give them a bit of inspiration, but they were also allowed to decide not to follow the « lore » of the project.
« The world is in big trouble. Giant monsters known as « kaijus » are attacking all across the globe. The ground is trembling beneath their feet, countries are falling, governments are hopeless ; the world as we know it is on the verge of collapse. The release “Help Wanted” by Yogurt for Breakfast (Emilio Adasme) is a journey that involves the painstaking deconstruction of a sonic fragment into unique spaces, where the sample comes alive, being played like an instrument, as the performer explores the complex relationship between rhythm, melody, and timbre. It is the beautiful experience of witnessing a beat flow and stretch into a passage full of layers — or listening as it suddenly collapses into itself, sounding almost like a guitarist juxtaposing rapid passages, pauses, and fluctuating melodies that hover in the limbo between tone and rhythm.
It is expression carried to its highest potential: using the smallest grain of sound and shaping it into an architecture that is both intricate and thrilling. At times we are given glimpses of its raw material; moments later, we witness its metamorphosis and allow ourselves to be enveloped by its striking presence. It’s astonishing to hear how something so tiny becomes disassembled, revealing its inner complexity — and even more exciting when we recognize its origin, yet find it transformed into something entirely different.
It’s funny that the majority of these sounds feel both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, creating a strange duality of closeness and distance. We experience a kind of Berenstain-syndrome effect, where we believe we recognize something even though we are not certain what it is.
To sum up, I find it remarkable how something so small and recognizable can turn into such a complex, unsettling monster — all thanks to the exploration of sound with the sensitivity of someone playing an instrument, where fluidity breathes life into something that feels both familiar and entirely new.

A surreal ambient/vaporwave parody of The Caretaker’s legendary album Everywhere At The End Of Time is a cult favourite by The Spongetaker (aka Vappasko), capturing the slow dissolution of memory in the depths of Bikini Bottom.
Supervolcano: An Eruption of Trans-Andean Noise
This record marks an encounter as spontaneous as it is unexpected between two seasoned figures of the Chilean and Argentine sound scenes. Both Óscar Santis and Francisco Ali-Brouchoud have long contributed—almost militantly, through multiple projects—to these niche communities devoted to experimentation and noise, rooted on either side of the Andes, with Valparaíso and Buenos Aires as their epicenters.
The material on this album stands as a clear testament to this ongoing crusade for two very specific reasons: first, it represents the duo’s only performance to date; and second, it was captured live at Estudio Libres, with a small audience sharing the recording space alongside the performers.
These circumstances highlight the importance of intuition, adrenaline, chance, synergy, and deep listening as key elements shaping the outcome of such experiences. Their presence is felt in the atmosphere of introspective tension, suffocating suspense, and explosive catharsis that punctuate the various moments of this free improvisation—later segmented into a series of tracks for this release.
The album title, “Supervolcán”, as well as those of each piece, conceptually allude to the planet’s major volcanic phenomena, particularly so-called “supervolcanoes”: which possess a magma chamber a thousand times larger than that of a conventional volcano and therefore produce gigantic eruptions capable of radically altering the environment where they occur. The sessions evoke fascinating sonic images linked to these geological beasts, which lie semi-dormant along the great Pacific Ring of Fire. The timbral characteristics and frequency range incorporated thus allow them to be easily associated with imagined events such as melting tectonic plates, volcanic radiation, pressurized geysers, rivers of boiling lava, the emission of flammable gases; or even, why not, drilling with heavy machinery, open-pit mega-mining, an environmental disaster in the Andean mountain range, or a hallucination caused by lithium fever.

“Afectos del Desastre” (Affects of Disaster) was an immersive performance installation created in 2023 by DESARTES, the Arts and Disasters Unit of CIGIDEN (Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management, Chile). Its objective was to delve into the emotional dimension of the human experience in the face of socio-environmental disasters related to economic practices. The installation combined live performance with new media elements to convey the experiences of three disasters that occurred in Chile, based on social research conducted by CIGIDEN: the fires in Santa Olga (consequence of the practices of the timber industry), the pollution in Puchuncaví, and the drought in Quillagua (both consequences of the mining industry’s practices). Each event was explored through a specific tunnel within the installation, offering a unique perspective on the performance. A quadraphonic acousmatic composition related to the addressed case was presented in each tunnel (which interacted with the performance), along with texts of testimonies from those who experienced these disasters firsthand. The music’s structure included a random distribution of some materials, allowing different versions to emerge each time. This album is, therefore, one of the many possible versions of the work.
From outside the installation, one could hear the three quadraphonic environments interweaving into a 12-channel sonic whole, an experience I attempted to replicate in the final track of this album, titled “Afectos del Desastre” (Affects of Disaster).
