about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

FROM THE AUTHOR:

Chris Phinney and Charles Goff III began a friendship and artistic collaborative relationship during the middle 1980s, which continued to the very end of Chris’s life in the summer of 2026. Goff was informed of Chris’s passing on July 3, 2026, which turned out to be a challenging day in many ways for Goff. Chris himself was challenged by life’s unexpected disasters many times, resulting in tremendous physical and economic strains over the years. Chris never went down easy though, and his recordings often artistically channeled his frustrations. For Goff, Chris’s passing was one challenge that ate into his own soul so deeply that he cleared his schedule for that July 3 day and put his Taped Rugs Studio through a frustration-releasing improv session. Goff genuinely felt that Chris’s essence was there in the studio with him as he created the recordings.

The three recordings presented here are the end result of the session. A lot more material was recorded, but Goff specifically chose these three choicest bits to share with the general public as his respectful tribute to his late friend and associate. No materials that did not originate from the July 3 session were added to the final mixes. No artificial intelligence ( AI ) was employed in molding this presentation. These recordings are enhanced by Goff’s electric guitar playing, which, due to his own physical issues, have been absent from most of Goff’s productions for the last few years. This challenge was met and executed with the knowledge that Goff likely would physically pay for it later, which he did. (Challenge accepted!)

In the summer of 2006, during Goff’s 06/06 Tour Of The Southeast USA, Chris generously hosted Goff for a stay at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. The cover photo for this presentation was taken on Beale Street in Memphis during the visit. More information, recordings, and video from this visit can be found at this Taped Rugs site:

Chris worked with hundreds of artists over the years. He initially shared his work and the work of several other artists on his Harsh Reality Music cassette label, which is well documented at the website below:

Chris later created an online Harsh Reality presence, was a co-founder of the Tapegerm interactive music collective, and produced a number of CDs and CDRs. Much of what is still currently offered to the public from these sources can be accessed at the websites below:
