about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Nullheart

“Japanese Pops Mashups”

From Fukuoka – Japan, Daiki Sasaki (aka Nullheart) is one of cool artists from the Nu Disco and Future Funk scene. MiMi Records has the honor to release his latest album entitled Japanese Pops Mashups.

The album is a stellar primer into the world of future funk, that features seamless blending between tracks, samples old and new, and the unrelenting four on the floor beat that plops disco into a new age.

This is a real retro-nostalgic-futuristic sounds hugely inspired by late 80s ~ early 90s culture.

Brainscan – Contact Mixtape

Brainscan

“Contact Mixtape”

A journey from the interior of the earth to the most remote corners of the universe, searching in this experimental and mental sound space gives us an idea of what could be out there, we explore in this musical platform and find it, some contact with these creations; how far could the imagination go? Possibilities hard to visualize but that have traces going through complex evolutions, entering unknown sonorous territories. With the strength and resistance of Pueblo Nuevo, these winds have allowed us to explore more complex musical possibilities, opening up new places. The contact and search for intelligent life in other worlds has few wings of being, but here is an air of hope with sound languages based on machines that assimilate transmissions or voids in space.

Atarashii Natsukashi – Machine Funk

Atarashii Natsukashi – Machine Funk

Atarashii Natsukashi

“Machine Funk”

Atarashii Natsukashi is intended as some sort of “musical diary”. All music is inspired by daily events and also various random thoughts & memories. As a result, the musical style of Atarashii Natsukashi might change according to its sole member’s current mood and the daily events that surround him. The first A.N release, “Machine Funk EP”, is heavily influenced by 90s Acid House and Techno. “Machine Funk” is the first release from the first period of A.N. During this period, tracks were being made at an industrious pace.

The Hathaway Family Plot – The Next Room

The Hathaway Family Plot – The Next Room

The Hathaway Family Plot

“The Next Room”

In the fall of 2020 my regular gig playing piano for ballet classes was forced by COVID to go virtual. I still commuted to campus and broadcast my playing from an empty studio. The building was being renovated, so a small group of construction workers walked the student-less hallways. Between classes, I began to experiment with recording my playing from a small portable recorder placed in the hallway outside the studio–partly to capture the strange whistle that one particular corridor often produces. The result is a hiss-heavy album wherein construction workers are heard walking by, an instructor’s voice is faintly heard far away, and the piano also sounds like a distant thing.*

The resulting recordings resonated with me emotionally in a way that felt appropriate for the year. It’s been hard to see and recognize beauty. Truth is relentlessly attacked, obfuscated, and denied. It feels like we’re stuck in a room outside the room where something beautiful may be happening. We know or believe that it exists, but we can’t see it or touch it. We’re being kept out of that space.

Headphones are recommended.

*(There is also one song recorded at home from the hallway outside my office–the recorder set next to a dog who is resting in his bed, nervously smacking his lips. Is it a strange kind of ASMR? Is this whole album? It may be to me.)

Robot Speaker – Plasmatica

Robot Speaker – Plasmatica
[KOF #344]

Robot Speaker

“Plasmatica”

A hazy 40-minute mind-altering, mood shifting amalgamation of sound. “Plasmatica” is a fuzzy, distorted OST recovered from the rom file of a cancelled japan only Super Famicom title that doesn’t exist. It’s funky, soulful and scratchy with breakbeats and sample work. It all sounds very “classic” in a way that’s hard to explain. When I hear Takuma’s music It feels like deja vu. Not just like I’ve heard it before but almost as if I should already have it memorized.

FFO: Enduser, Pop’n TwinBee, Hitori Tori, Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius, Manapool, Bahamut Lagoon and Masaya Matsuura

Various Artists – 2020 Compilation

Various Artists – 2020 Compilation

“2020 Compilation”

We round off a disturbing year to say the least with a new edition of the annual Atomnation compilation series. Across 10 essential tracks, this year’s selections touch on some of the best music released in the last 12 months as well as serving up some new tracks. Exclusive to download for free on Bandcamp for the next few days. Thank you for your support, stay safe all and take care of each other.

The exclusives on this year’s collection include ‘Off The Ground’ from Sky Civilian, the New Mexico artist who spans many musical worlds from pop to house to techno. Her track is a gorgeous ambient and classical fusion that washes over you like a dream. Another exclusive comes from dark disco innovators Bufi and the Mordisco duo, who between them have credits on labels like My Favorite Robot and Duro. Their ‘Los Pilares’ is a rugged, textured chugger with slapping hits and pixelated cosmic leads.

Leonardo Di Fiore aka NOCUI is a new Italian composer, producer, and sound designer whose exclusive ‘All Night’ is a breezy deep house groove with machine made soul and heart warming chords from the future. Lastly for the exclusives, Dutch duo Polynation are known for improvisational, spontaneous dynamic live performances. They capture that here with a freeform and jazzy synth style as they carry you away to the heavens on shimmering breakbeats with ‘Humming’.

Elsewhere, Applescal serves up the supple and melodic deep techno of ‘Cymbals Rush’, which is taken from his Diamond Skies album back in May, while Gidge also serve up ‘New Light’, a track taken from their album of the same name and one that is awash with heavenly vocal chants, melancholic chords and expansive post-pop beats. Add in tried and tested favourites from Millio, David Douglas, Sam Goku and boys be kko and you have another well-sequenced journey through many shades of electronic music that are all united by emotive feelings and great craft.
