about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

kaneel – What you hear is what you deserve

“What you hear is what you deserve”

After years of hiatus, self-flagellation, ‘post-parenting’ questioning and finally, a long period of artistic persona reshaping…

I wanted to kick back with a very important message: What you hear is what you deserve.

Ethernet Orchestra – Diaspora

pn094

Ethernet Orchestra

“Diaspora”

“Diaspora” is the debut album from the Ethernet Orchestra, an Internet based music ensemble exploring intercultural tele-improvisation. It is a compilation of live freely improvised vignettes from performances recorded between 2009-2014. It features musicians from a diverse range of cultures and musical traditions performing simultaneously between Iran and Australia via North America, Canada, Brazil and Europe. Distance is embodied in the material quality of the works, which not only serves as testament to the technological achievement of such a project but also forms part of the grain of the medium itself.

During this period we also had the great fortune to collaborate with the late Richard Lainhart, who is featured on many of the recordings. Ethernet Orchestra would like to dedicate this album to Richard, whose passion and generosity touched us all and his music continues his presence in our lives.

The album also contains works from the “Distant Presences” trilogy of performances. These events included networked VJs Helen Varley Jamieson, Neil Jenkins, Graziano Milano and Michael Szpakowski mixing live cinematic visual collages in the audiovisual platform VisitorsStudio, which can be viewed from diasporasound.wordpress.com/vjmixes

Marco Mestichella is a 24 years old recording and performing artist originally from Italy who moved to London in 2009 where he’s been producing and playing original music since.
He describes his style as ‘ILLPOP’ referring to it as a blend of trip hop, retro-pop, soft rock and cinematic music.
Marco’s debut EP ‘The Day I Killed My Ego’ was self-released in 2013, with the following release of two video-singles ‘Treason’ and ‘I Should Have Stayed Home Tonight’.
His new single ‘ Fragments Of Light’ has been released earlier this month and plenty of new music is set to be released over the next year with new live dates in the pipeline.
Marco has been working with bristolian arranger/composer Joe Rodwell whom he has co-produced all his music with so far as well as collaborating with other underground songwriters like Turan and Claudia Heidegger.
Marco’s music is a crossover in between 70’s and 90’s productions, with hints of Portishead, Morcheeba, Isaac Heys and Pink Floyd, mixed with some old school Madonna and George Michael.

Still Pluto

“Songs To Mend The Heart Once Been Torn Apart”

Wings of an Angel – The Magic Realism Of The End Of Art

Self-Release

Wings of an Angel

“The Magic Realism Of The End Of Art”

I have a love-hate relationship with art in general. Because very often artists lack self-humor and too often suffer from a Napoleonic Complex. They look upon themselves from such heights and perceive their work to be of unmatched grandiosity. Look and reflect on your favorite artists and/or bands – how much they seek the approval and passionate love from their audiences, to the point it becomes hilariously odious. Groupies and more groupies, men and women alike, and collectors who worship their guru artists as if they were living gods… Today, at the front door of the new year, I feel so detached from all this glamour.
My point of reference is: in this time and age, we have to expand the limits of what art is and how we as individuals and as a culture perceive a certain work of art.
This LP is titled accordingly, and symbolizes a vision according to which art has an end or rather art might end at some point. Metaphorically, I feel as if artists are not as important a persona as they are often perceived and/or vision themselves to be. Unfortunately, unlike human touch, art cannot comfort one on his or her deathbed. Art is a remarkable transitional object, but it’s no substitute for so many things and experiences. Artistic creations become obsolete, they weary off with time, lose their initial relevance, become inanimate, inorganic and abiotic. This is why, although some would call me an artist (a title I don’t seek nor need in my age) – I look upon art in general and my creative adventures in particular with a lightweight tone…

Telegraphy

“Me, Without A Name”

Telegraphy’s eighteenth release here on Ionosonde Recordings. Tying our shoes on bubble gum ground is as close as a description for this “shoe gazed” five tracked experimental dubed techno EP. “Me, Without A Name” explores the inner most part of ourselves. The “I” of consciousness is only but a clumsy word that attempts to describe you and me. Without the “I”, how can we have the “ME”. The two must exist. So – “I” Telegraphy give you “Me, Without A Name.” Enjoy!

Hank Hobson – Train In The Woods

[SCL153]

Hank Hobson

“Train In The Woods”

Is it possible to travel not leaving your favourite armchair? Yes, it is, if there is “Train In The Woods” mini-album playing in your headphones. From a desolate railway station lost in the woods, where there is not a living soul present, just the wind whistling in the posts and rare through trains break the silence, an old train will take you around our mighty country, and you will be dreaming about all the places you haven’t visited yet to the rhythmical throbbing of the wheels. And eventually you will find yourself on the coast of the ocean, breaking its waves against the deserted shore, day and night, and this will be the end of your trip.

abjective from saint petersburg join tonAtom for their latest release. this artistic project of two brothers melts ambient, idm and glitch into unique compositions on their quest to discover and create new sounds.
13 tracks focusing on the topic of life and birth, death and re-birth are the building blocks for this full-length release “black ][ trees”. music for both brain and soul. an inspiring album and an incredible new entry to the tonAtom catalogue. welcome, abjective!

and in their own words:
“what is it, that dead trees speak about? about life and death, love and hate, happiness and pain. when foliage has fallen and beauty has ceased to be the raison d’etre, wisdom and knowledge move into focus.
black trees – music made of starlight lost among bare branches.”

Faex Optim – Commodore

350

Faex Optim

“Commodore”

Faex Optim appeared in my inbox recently with a simple email – I think my tracks might fit the Kahvi sound, what do you think? Well, this short but ever so sweet EP of four tracks are about as close to Boards of Canada that this die hard BOC fan has ever heard.

Of course, Tycho and others have also made their style very similar to BOC, but Faex Optim hails from the very place that the Sandison brothers live – Scotland. Could it be something in the water or something else? hmm. All the tracks are amazing and if you’re familiar with BOC, you’ll get the feeling and the vibe straight away. Sentimental, lo-fi, analogue, warm, cold. Sending a shiver down your back? This ep has it all. And with minimal equipment that Faex described to me, so who needs a studio full of hardware to create tracks of this calibre?

Track of choice for me is Dancing lessons from the man. Enjoy Commodore, as part of the Christmas lineup for 2014!

barbeque – transient portals

TWG025

barbeque

“transient portals”

Today TWG closes it’s doors. Seeing us off, piggy legend barbeque is releasing his latest with us, a mesh of chilled footwork, tinges of acid and a whole lot of ambient leanings; a release as kinetically moving as it is emotionally so.

Featuring chilled vaporware-by-R&B footwork cuts like ‘c-a n..a d..i a_n __d..r..u-g s_t-o-r e-‘, sampled vox-heavy tracks like the near vocaloid ‘i want to hold u but i can’t’, and pieces more in line with his older output (‘indie.fuckboy’), ‘transient portals’ is eight tracks of eclectic perfection, taking a single overarching genre and fucking it every way possible. ‘transient portals’ takes barbeque’s recorded outputs to a new level, being easily his most condensed and realised release to date, ambition realised.
