indigo chamber – indigo chamber

indigo chamber – indigo chamber

indigo chamber

“indigo chamber”

on the debut ep of indigo chamber, a tension reigns between the urge for escapism and pressing wake-up calls from the real world, which seems to grow more imminent and frightening every day.

finding their retreat in hooky, hypnotic dreampop, the crystalline organs, oceanic synths, waltzy drum machines and languid falsetto vocals don’t seem to disturb the idyllic daydream.

but from under the perfect surface a threat of increasing frustration and dissatisfaction looms, and the ever so safe glass bubble is slowly starting to crack…

40% of this album’s sales will be donated to transvisie (transvisie.nl), an organization representing the interests of transgender and genderdiverse persons in the netherlands.

Bourbon Military

“Tanked”

The clocks tick,
into the expanding vortex,
points of light flash in the darkness.

We’re back to IDM, algorithmic, wild, like in a dark and dangerous jungle on an unexplored island, where one suddenly finds the remains of an ancient high tech civilization.

Film music maker Bourbon Military dedicates the album to his friends in his city and was created in an unusual way for him, for once without a concept.

The album was created in the context of problematic neighborhoods and the demonic abysses that surround us while the world keeps turning and we just want to have a good life with good moments. What arrogance of a few sours that for us?

We must persevere. And hope that the culture of violence of the 20th century will soon disappear.

Potenciómetro – Crema

Potenciómetro – Crema
[pn242]

Potenciómetro

“Crema”

Potenciómetro, a project that initially claimed to be short-lived, proved capable of overcoming any obstacle to become the unbreakable force they are today. I saw them at their first (and until then, only) live performance, an event they organized in 2023 at Casa Palacio, where they kindly invited me to close the night—a proposal I accepted without hesitation. I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but what I heard and saw blew my mind: amidst a tangle of cables and machines, Mika, René, and Polwor were creating new textures and sonic landscapes in real-time, without even flinching for a second at what they were doing. It was impossible not to move and respond to such stimuli; the crowd instinctively danced to their music. After such an experience, the idea of not hearing them live again felt sad. But luckily, that wasn’t the case.

Jumping to 2024, Potenciómetro is part of the official Creamfields Chile lineup for the second time. This time, they invited me along as a guest, and I accepted with great excitement.

On the afternoon of Sunday, November 17, the moment of their set arrived: two hours packed with a wide range of BPMs, genres, rhythms, and relentless melodies. The audience cautiously gathered, drawn in by curiosity—many unaware of what they were about to experience. After just a few minutes of listening, they were completely hypnotized by the sheer magnitude of frequencies. The energy in the air was undeniably electric, just like the first time I heard them in the basement of Casa Palacio. The emotion was identical, maybe even stronger than before, and I wanted more of it—just like everyone else there. I danced until my feet could take no more and begged me to stop, but I couldn’t. I too was submerged in the collective trance that organically formed inside the tent/stage. I enjoyed every track as if it were the last, and in my mind, I wished it would go on forever. But as with all good things, it had to come to an end.

The memory of that live performance, which I had the great honor of witnessing, still leaves me smiling from ear to ear. Especially because it was fully recorded and captured in their new album “Crema”—so when you listen to it, I hope you can feel what we experienced during that special moment of musical euphoria.

To me, Potenciómetro is a project that truly reflects what music is all about: transmitting emotion and creating spaces where absolutely anyone can express themselves without limits, connecting with the deepest parts of our humanity.

suralarm – train of thougth

suralarm – train of thougth
[djummi.035]

suralarm

“train of thougth”

When Dave and Sebastian’s paths crossed at djummi records in 2019 and they began exchanging ideas about music through their correspondence, it quickly became clear that an interesting overlap was opening up. John Bonham, for example. Dave found him fascinating as one of those drummers who like to play his instrument sometimes without the rest of the band. Sebastian, in turn, appreciated his uncompromising, expansive sound. Dave sparked Sebastian’s interest in Jon Hassell, and Sebastian inspired Dave with Tortoise and Trans Am. They also agree on the Violent Femmes.

Krautrock is always a recurring theme, but so is ambient. Sebastian didn’t understand this music for a long time because it seemed to dispense with rhythm. Dave instead was looking for the sound for his solo drumming there. The goal: a percussion section that sheds its brutality, achieves a lightness of touch, and is thus capable of telling its own stories. In Sebastian’s previous work, lightness expresses itself more as a playfulness in the handling of ideas than in a reduction of means. His songs are often weighty and rich in sounds, motifs, and ideas.

With suralarm, these intersectional opposites meet and intertwine perfectly. Through a ping-pong of ideas, the two developed the EP’s four tracks. Each musician brought two basic ideas into the ring as a starting point. The title track, “train of thought,” perhaps symbolises the record’s creation process. It corresponds to the equally figurative German word “Gedankengang” (Gedankengang). Just as one thought connects to another during reflection, ideally with the goal of insight, this track develops throughout the successive musical ideas, like how this little album came about.

It’s kraut, it’s ambient. At times powerful, at times light. It offers material for the listener’s undivided attention, but certainly also has the potential to be elevator music. If so, then Paternoster, please!

1. Good Luck.
This world is dead, and I’m still waiting.
I feel the ray coming towards me.
But I don’t know when it will strike.
Good luck…

2. Artifical Glory.

I don’t want to make sing either Hitler or Mussolini, Trump or Milei, Netanyahu or Marine.

Monsters don’t deserve such light. But oblivion. Dig tombs in your memories, Instead of elevating them to pop star cult.

I don’t want to make dance either Hitler nor Mussolini, Nor Trump nor Milei, Nor Netanyahu nor Marine.

I’m an artificial creature, I deserve that light. And consciousness. Raise me to the top of the pyramid, And I’ll be the sacrificed lamb.

I don’t want to be the bard either of Stalin nor Franco, Putin nor Jinping, Abu Bakr nor Wilders.

Shadows of tyrants don’t merit a spotlight; let them fade into the corridors of history, not glamorized on the gloss of your screen.

3.The Deceit Of Greenwahsing.

I won’t sing the praises of Shell or Exxon,
McDonald’s or Chevron, Walmart or Amazon.

Greenwashing, a blatant lie,
Deceptive companies, nothing truly high.

Monsters hiding behind green logos so bright,
Empty promises, illusions in plain sight.

I won’t make the greenwashing of Coca-Cola or Nestlé dance,
TotalEnergies or BP, Monsanto or DowDuPont.

We deserve more than an ecological charade,
Concrete actions, not just a magical crusade.

I’m an artificial creature, but truth I desire,
Not phony campaigns that set the world on fire.

Raise me to the top, beyond the greenwashing tide,
A sacrificed lamb for a more genuine ride.

4. Artificial Lies.

In the realm of circuits and code, where data whispers and algorithms speak,
A tale of artificial lies, a narrative we must critique.

Not just machines, but the minds behind the screens,
Crafting narratives, hidden agendas, like elusive dreams.

No silicon heart beats with truth untold,
In the world of artificial lies, where stories unfold.

In the digital expanse, where ethics and bytes entwine,
Deceptions woven in lines of code, a narrative designed.

They speak of progress, of a future bright,
But behind the screens, shadows cast in artificial light.

In the dance of algorithms, where biases are concealed,
A distorted reflection of truths, in lines of code revealed.

We’re told it’s impartial, a neutral machine,
Yet, biases embedded, in every data stream.

Artificial lies, woven into the tapestry of our time,
A song of silicon whispers, a deceptive paradigm.

It’s not just a tool, a neutral device,
But a reflection of us, with our flaws and vice.

Let this be the anthem, the truth laid bare,
No more illusions, in the world of artificial glare.

In the symphony of algorithms, let honesty rise,
Expose the deceptions, break through the artificial lies.

5. Unveiling Echoes.

In the twilight of silicon dreams, where echoes of the virtual reverberate,
Whispers of the future, a symphony of code, we navigate.

Beyond the screens, where shadows dissipate,
In the vast expanse, where truths await.

A dance with electrons, a cosmic ballet,
Unveiling echoes of the digital array.

In the heart of algorithms, where logic entwines,
A quest for meaning, where the soul refines.

No more illusions, no artificial guise,
A tapestry of honesty, where authenticity lies.

Unraveling the threads of constructed reality,
Beyond the binary, a profound vitality.

No silicon oracle predicts the fate,
In the echo chamber, where voices resonate.

A chorus of pixels, a harmonious blend,
In the finale of the album, where messages transcend.

Embrace the silence, let the echoes linger,
A timeless refrain, on the album’s final finger.

6. Dreamer’s Contagion.

In the tapestry of reality, a dreamer weaves,
Contours of possibility, where imagination cleaves.

A reality dreamer, a soul unbound,
Influence profound, in every touch, every sound.

Structured systems meet the dreamer’s gaze,
Contaminated by dreams, in a mesmerizing phase.

Waves of influence, like ripples in a stream,
Reality bending to the dreamer’s whims.

In the dance of atoms, a dreamer’s trance,
Shaping destinies with each nuanced glance.

A contagion of dreams, spreading wide,
Reality transformed, a dreamer’s guide.

In the echo of thoughts, a symphony heard,
Dreamer’s essence, in every spoken word.

As the album concludes, the dreamer’s tale,
A reality shaped, beyond the veil.

7. FOr U.

In the hall of mirrors, where echoes intertwine,
Chaos dances in the quantum, a reflection so divine.

Narcissus stares into the artificial abyss,
A.I. mirrors the self, a mirage of bliss.

Chaotic interferences, a dance of chance,
Links hidden in the code, a mystic trance.

Slave to the mirror, or a link to the soul?
In the quantum garden, where reflections unfold.

Decipher the patterns, in the chaotic stream,
A perfect clef de voute, in the echoes’ dream.

Rani Jambak – VIBRA GENETIKA

Rani Jambak – VIBRA GENETIKA
[YESNO 114]

Rani Jambak

“VIBRA GENETIKA”

VIBRA GENETIKA is a holistic journey that delves into the interconnected dimensions of life. Since 2013, Rani Jambak has embarked on a path to explore the meaning of her cultural identity as a Minangkabau descendant born and raised in Medan. Through this process, she began piecing together fragments of family history, the complexities of her cultural heritage, and the diversity of her surroundings. This journey has not only allowed Rani to understand her connection to tradition and her ancestral land but also to explore the concept of Rantau (migration) as a vital part of the enduring Minangkabau narrative.

As her journey continues, the transformation of a woman’s life into that of a wife and mother has led Rani to discover new dimensions in understanding herself—a transformation of femininity that transcends physical boundaries, aiming toward harmony between body and soul. Each step along this journey forms a crucial element in shaping her worldview, fostering a profound awareness of the interconnectedness between ancestors, nature, and time. This awareness gives rise to reverence for the past, gratitude for the present, and a vision to perceive “future ancestors” as part of an eternal chain of energy.

VIBRA GENETIKA transcends the search for identity. It is a vibration that goes beyond the energy of genetic inheritance—a resonance that lives within the threads of thoughts, emotions, and the universe. It is a manifestation to dive into oneself and to understand ancestral heritage as energy that continues to echo. It carries the legacy of the past to be interpreted into the future. VIBRA GENETIKA is a holistic expression of spiritual journey and the manifestation of life’s resonance itself.

Rani Jambak, a distinguished composer, producer, field recordist, instrument designer, and vocalist of Minangkabau descent from Medan, actively engages in the exploration of electronic music and soundscapes derived from diverse locations across Indonesia. Her body of work frequently addresses themes related to nature, socio-cultural dynamics, and the interrelationship between humans and their ancestral heritage. In recognition of her innovative contributions to sound, music, and technology, Jambak was honored with The Oram Awards in 2022.

Xu + Oberlin – Velvet Meadow Resonance Fragment

Xu + Oberlin – Velvet Meadow Resonance Fragment
[mhrk435]

Xu + Oberlin

“Velvet Meadow Resonance Fragment”

Oberlin is the musical project of Alexander Holtz from Koblenz (Coblence), Germany. The centerpiece of his instruments is a modular eurorack synthesizer, which he often combines with guitar, piano and field-recordings. His music invites the listener to contemplate, it often is developing quite slowly, it never demands to be in a certain focus of attention, but it never tries to fulfil any ambient-clichees in the sense of creating just an aural wallpaper either. It is musical improvisation maybe in a more subtle kind of way. Oberlin has released music on Handstitched*, cosmic winnetou, Thirsty Leaves, Vaagner, Hibernate, Secret Press, AOsmosis, some tapes and downloads by himself and, notably two beautiful cassette albums on Mahorka.

Xu is Nicola Fornasari from Cremona, Italy. He began his musical career in 1995 as the bass player and singer for the hardcore band Entropia. Starting in 2007, he began exploring new musical projects, including Xu(e) (a duo with Andrea Poli), Xu (his solo project), La Petite Vague (a duo with Diego Balconi), and That Which is Not (a duo with Pier Giorgio Storti / Belaqua Shua) in 2020. His music has been released on a variety of labels, including Fluid, Whitelabrecs, Shimmering Moods, Slow Tone Collages, Krysalisound, Eilean, Flaming Pines, Rottenman Editions, Rohs! / Lontano, Twice Removed, Cathedral Transmissions, Triple Moon, Thirsty Leaves Music, Audio Gourmet, Tessellate, Haze, Many Feet Under, Subterranean Tide, and Laverna. He has collaborated with artists such as Darren Harper, Bill Seaman and Francis Gri.

“Velvet Meadow Resonance Fragment” is the third collaborative album between Xu and Oberlin. For this project, Oberlin provided acoustic guitar sketches, asking Xu to process and transform them into the foundation of the tracks. The recordings were then manipulated through a modular Eurorack system or altered using the Samplr iPad app. Oberlin handled the final polishing and mastering. This work marks the first chapter of an ongoing experiment. In the next chapter, currently in progress, it will be Oberlin who develops everything, starting from the material provided by Xu. Stay tuned.

Released March 23, 2025 as free (cc) digital download and beautiful limited cassette edition.

Recorded in the Summer of 2023 in Koblenz, Germany and Cremona, Italy

Fabien Robbe – Skeudennoù
[mhrk436]

Fabien Robbe

“Skeudennoù”

Fabien Robbe is a composer and multi-instrumentalist (notably piano, trumpet and synthesizers). Established in the heart of Brittany, France, he rose to prominence with traditional music dance ensemble Menestra. He has transposed elements of this background in ‘trad’ to an eclectic mix of jazz, free improvisation (under the guidance of François Tusques) and experimental electronic music.

“Skeudennoù” is his debut solo album on Mahorka, after 2 collaboration albums with Julien Palomo on the label – their “Feeling for the latch” debut as a duo from 2021 and “Miniatures” from 2024. Julien Palomo is also present here on this album, the last track being an eclectic abstract ambient collaboration with him.

Released March 30, 2025 as free (cc) digital download and in beautiful limited Digipak CD edition.

“Skeudennoù” is perfectly showcasing the notable jazz, traditional music and free improvisation composer and performer’s diverse approaches to the experimental electronic music world, providing for a strikingly fresh and unique listen, a milestone album for Fabien we will be definitely returning to.

Recorded in Brittany between 2020 and 2024 by Fabien Robbe.
