However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. Modal. What does it mean? Modal could be Jazz, but there’s also a Modal Logic, and there are Modal Verbs of course. But listening to the new release by Substak for Adeptlabel I actually think in Modal Fabric.

Modal is an artificial fiber. It is true that we tend to identify the artificial as something unnatural, false, but “artificial” form Latin artificiālis, which means hand-made or man-made. Art is artificial. Modal is artificial.

It’s usual to think that by means of textile fibers we could produce textile fabrics. But truth is that we could manufacture non-woven fabric. The key is how to weave the fiber. In textiles, fiber are weaved, sewed, tied; in non-woven fabric, fibers are related by means of friction, cohesion, adhesion, etc…

Modal fiber can be used to form part of woven or non-woven materials. Something similar happens with sounds. They can produce music or non-music in their mixing process. There’re rhythms and melodies in “Modal” obviously but what it’s crucially important is how the sonic fibers are fused together until reaching the bottom line.

So Modal is a non-woven musical fabric. It is a sound sheet of porous and absorbent rhythms stuck on with elastic melodies. That is the reason why Modal is highly accurate sonic fibers.

pan y rosas is beyond excited to release a series of albums that document the fifth cycle of articular facet. articular facet is a series of electro-acoustic compositions and structured improvisations. curated by julia miller, the series reflects the use of ancient, adapted, or hacked technology, invented instruments and performative objects, and the incorporation of the visual and physical into the sonic.

the fifth cycle took place over three sundays in october of 2013 and was a collaboration between pan y rosas and julia miller. the performances all took place at the empty bottle in chicago.

the first release in the series come from maoϴ.

maoϴ is a project of ryan ⊥ dunn. working with spoken, prerecorded and generated language, maoϴ investigates the abstraction of touch as an arbiter of meaning through the use of languages he may not speak. maoϴ performances involve the use of language processed using a self-built palate controller: an oral retainer-based device which allows control data to be produced based on the touch of the tongue against the roof of the mouth, notably during speech production.

Sk’p is a name that is instantly recognizable to those who are into some speeded up, playful, incredibly clean but detailed glitch tunes and not a stranger to chiptune madness as well. But that’s just one side of him.
A very prolific and active producer hailing from Belgium, he decided to release on Crazy-Language a very different output from what he usually does, being slowing things down while still retaining his trademark sound of beautiful immediate melodies, clicky beats and a very precise song structure.
Inside Astravel are half a dozen of smooth, slow-paced classic IDM compositions that take no time on getting a warm and fuzzy feeling out of you. It’s simple, effective and very fun to re-listen time and time again, so you can start digging deeper onto all the nifty little details that are present inside. Complementing the six solid tunes Sk’p has to offer, you can still count on a couple of remixes from two of the label’s finest: Huron and Enabl.ed.
