about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

PIRATE Tapes

“In Extremis Ex Nihilo Sound Artefact Capture Performance”

The Necrophile Hummingbird presents “Performance d’extraction d’un artefact sonore ex nihilo in extremis” by PIRATE Tapes. First of 2 concerts recorded before and after the first lockdown. A way to show how the spontaneous music that we call “improvisation” is slightly closer of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s intuitive music than of the jazz improvisation. Indeed it’s mostly a live session as we use to do when we records one of our album before split it in several parts and title them as tracks… but with public.
Merely nothing prepared, we plug and play that’s all : total improvisation.

Improvised music recorded live the 23th February 2023 at the 36 Art Gallery of Dole (france) “In Extremis Ex Nihilo Sound Artefact Capture Performance” aka “Performance d’extraction d’un Artefact Sonore Ex Nihilo In Extremis”. Musique quasi totalement improvisée à la Galerie du 36 de Dole (france) le 23 février 2023. Si le titre n’est pas assez explicite, la performance improvisée consistait a dévoiler les mystères de la capture d’un Objet Sonore Non Identifié…

Richey Hackett – The Nightmarist

Richey Hackett – The Nightmarist

Richey Hackett

“The Nightmarist”

Following his eclectic opus ‘A Space For Your Dreams’ (released earlier this year on Vulpiano), Richey Hackett continues on his parallel path as an electronic composer with ‘The Nightmarist’. Richey takes ideas and delves into them, skillfully weaving atmospheres throughout his kaleidoscopic chords: bitcrushed echoes, fizzing electrical signals, distorted percussion, and ambiguous vocal samples.

Themes pervade: of digital consciousness as a spirit that haunts, disturbs, and blesses our synaptic essence, of a parallel plain that melds with an ancient and bone-deep wilderness expressed in our occult – a sort of ‘Life In The Bush of Ghosts’.

This is not to pigeonhole it as merely a dark-cyberpunk-ambient album; there is too much sweetness and pathos. The tones deployed are often sweeping and celestial, with everything from a subliminally disquieting music box waltz to anxious techno; and at various times recalling Vangelis, Burial, and Trent Reznor’s solo work. Yet another display of range and sophistication from Richey Hackett.

Words From The Artist:

“I really enjoyed the challenge of trying my hand at something new with You Are Nothing But Light. So making a second collection of dark ambient music felt only natural and this time I’ve tried to make the pieces even more expressive and cinematic.

I’ve always enjoyed ambient music and how much freedom it gives the listener; I may have composed a track with certain images and emotions in mind, but without lyrics to define those things you leave it much more open to interpretation. And I really like the idea of the listener being able to create their own scenes in their minds using your music as the soundtrack.”

Kid Data – The Oddity of Existence

Kid Data – The Oddity of Existence
[AR_103]

Kid Data

“The Oddity of Existence”

Usually you can’t put ƘÏÐ ƉΔŦΛ in a specific genre as he is producing several styles of music. But in this case he is showing us his signature sound he developed over the last 15 years. You could describe his music as electro-acoustic compositions as there is no good name for his kind of music. With a combination of acoustic Instruments, electronic beats and soundscapes his signature sound is melancholically melodic but yet unusualy rhythmic. Growing up with IDM, Brokenbeats and Folk Music this EP stirs it all up and combines it to something new.

Javier Moraga – Sofismo

Javier Moraga – Sofismo
[pn034]

Javier Moraga

“Sofismo”

(UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2021 in FLAC)

Restless Javier Moraga has conceived this set of atmospheric tracks that are no easy stuff to our ears at all.

‘Sofismo‘ appeals to the mother’s womb, taking us there, eliciting our arcane memories: our mother’s blood feeding and warming, hearts beating at the same time, becoming rhythms we will remember for life… a missing quality this release brings back in full glory.

This set of tracks grew along his daughter – the most wonderful thing in Moraga’s life. This may explain their sonic quality, as if they were heard thru the womb, coming from a cold, unknown outside, but turning into something cosy and warm while inside.

Filled with unrecognizable – though identifiable -, organic, thick sounds, stimulating imagination, this album deals with its title not in the sense of thought’s depth or truth seeking thru knowledge, but rather in the sense of sonic exploration: Javier intends to rule over machines, synthesis, tools… the final word is up to you.

Kai Nobuko – Ober Attached

Kai Nobuko – Ober Attached
[earthrid-028]

Kai Nobuko

“Ober Attached”

Kai Nobuko is a Dutch musician and producer who has released countless albums (he has definitely lost count!) under his own name and as Toxic Chicken and Covolux.

Kai was recently reunited with his Oberheim OB•12 synthesiser, which he had lent to a friend and then sort of forgotten about. He quickly fell in love with this intrument again, and with this album he presents a sincere homage to the OB•12 in the shape of imagined fantasy “demo tunes”, which showcase what this sky-blue beauty can do. To add to the challenge, no sequencing software or hardware was used. What you hear was played live, in just a few layers of tracks.

Within this dreamy album you might be surprised by what the synth is capable off when treated with love and kindness, but it’s even more likely that you will simply zone out as you find yourself floating away into a cloudless sky, with the OB•12 as your magic carpet.

Hideor Tild – Home Directory

Hideor Tild – Home Directory

Hideor Tild

“Home Directory”

Member of the band Blue Haired Girl, which supported him in the recording of this first solo effort touched by a similar spirit of musical nomadism, Hideor Tild started “Home Directory”, published by IRM Netlabel and Les Disques Normal, with songs composed on his acoustic guitar.

From that breadcrumb’s thread and without losing any of this initial spontaneity, the French musician has woven unique and varied atmospheres, mixing pastoral ballads and electrified cavalcades, western folk elements and instruments from Africa and Asia (from Mali to Uzbekistan), intoxicating strings and percussions of all kinds, hints of electronic music and unusual sounds ranging from vocoder to drum machines through field recordings and mystical chants coming from multiple geographical origins : voices from Mexico to Japan, Touvain and Inuit songs, etc.

As a result, the mostly instrumental “Home Directory” is an album filled with spirituality that invites you to travel far but also to make your own inner journey, summoning previous adventurers of acoustic guitars such as Mice Parade, Gustavo Santaolalla, Ry Cooder or Tunng’s early records.

Wolne Pokoje – Kostropate

Wolne Pokoje – Kostropate
[mhrk285]

Wolne Pokoje

“Kostropate”

1: Common quantum physicists’ interpretation and statement is that there is no such thing as matter and what we all call matter, in reality is energy. The whole universe is energy, frequencies, vibrations. What we observe is energy vibrations that are slowed down to a level that is perceivable by our senses and sensors. It all exists thanks to forces which make particles quiver and yet keep the whole system together. Many spiritual or metaphysical things in essence have always been just physics which we have not properly seen and understand yet.

2: “Spaces lost, abandoned, cheated by history and nature have an odd, somewhat surreal charm … When things and places lose the context that gave them function or meaning, you can rediscover them. Useless, even freed in a sense, they gain a specific aura. Not only do we see them as new, but they also turn their surprised sights towards us and try to ask us a question … Sometimes an accidental glance is enough to give in to the force of that place for years. Sometimes a place lives in a person since childhood.” — Katharina Raabe, Monika Sznajderman, taken from the intro to„Znikająca Europa”, Wydawnictwo Czarne, Wołowiec, 2006.

These two contexts were the inspiration for the energy, frequency and vibration of Wolne Pokoje’s “Kostropate”.
