about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.

Bryan Holmes – Arak Saya

Bryan Holmes – Arak Saya
[pn108]

Bryan Holmes

“Arak Saya”

“I have always approached electroacoustic music as an art of sonic re-contextualization. And it was as such that this genre was born. Objects, de-contextualized from their origin, reunite and in the aspect of their diversity they create new aural worlds, known also as musical works. While contributing to a new sonic discourse, objects become more complex, interrelating and forming a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts. The way in which this is realized is what some call the ‘musical language’ of the composer, although personally I prefer to think that such ‘discourse’ does not necessarily constitute language per se, but rather another kind of structural conception that is of itself and that responds to its own nature.

‘Arak Saya‘ shows a possible evolution of said discourse in the music that I wrote during the last decade. However, it is presented here in reverse order, as involution or, better still, as de-evolution. This way of seeing time ‘backwards’, where the past is ahead and the future behind, is characteristic of the Aymara cosmovision, from which the title of this album also arises. ‘Arak Saya’ means something like ‘the place above’, which denominates the geo-socio-political organization of the Aymara people as opposed to ‘Manka Saya’ (place or part from below). This is, moreover, the title of the only mixed work present here (for tarka and electroacoustic means).

Despite an eventual discursive evolution, works distant in time like ‘Epitunga’ (2006) and ‘Arak Saya’ (2013) itself demonstrate common influences like, in this case, the Andean Highlands, or ‘Desembocaduras’ (2008) and ‘Glosa de Clímax Púrpura’ (2012), that use sounds of Mapuche instruments, symbolizing the resistance of this people against colonizers and etnocides.

Thus, changes in time have been in the aesthetic and technical domains rather than in symbolic aspects. Still with exceptions, I believe this production –which goes from the end of 2015 to the beginning of 2016– could be divided between a before and an after in relation to my contact with the theories of Pierre Schaeffer regarding the sound object and typo-morphology, a phase that began with ‘Desembocaduras’ (2008). At the same time, another evolutionary level could be observed in the field of textural complexity and density: at the beginning I was working normally –by sheer precariousness– with minimum sound materials, trying to extract something interesting by means of their ‘Explotación’ (‘Exploitation’) (EP released in 2008 by Menthe de Chat and TimeTheory netlabels). Over time, the density and variety of materials was increased, reaching an apex in ‘Convolved Dream’ (2016, a work which I composed especially to finish this album), whose poly-spaces and multi-layers arise from a discourse overcharged with disparate information. What could be argued as a constant in the compositional aspect is that the works should always represent a challenge for me. This is say, all were conceived as experimental ‘studies’ in which I had to solve issues that were specific to each.

I leave you, then, with this personal journey… I hope never to find the definitive path, so I am able to continue in the search for new possible sonic worlds.”

“Into The Rift: Volume One”

CerebralAudio is proud to present it’s first ever Netlabel Day Release: Into The Rift: Volume One!

Several months ago we put out a call to the netlabel community for submissions for a new compilation. And, we were stunned by the number of people and group that chose to support this effort. Initially, we hoped to create a solid, single-disc length release (about an hour in length). However, this release grew and grew until it became a three disc (3.5 hours) length release. By then end of the submissions thirty artists form around the world submitted works for Into The Rift: Volume One, and have made it into a diverse and eclectic listening experience.

Stephen Briggs – Hypnotique

Stephen Briggs – Hypnotique
[SCM-1608]

Stephen Briggs

“Hypnotique”

We’re happy to offer you the new Stephen Briggs concept ambient release with the usual shoegazish taste, out for the Netlabel Day 2016 special event.

In “Hypnotique”, the vast landscapes we were used to, here enlarge their borders, thanx to the artist’s skill in depicting sonic panoramas with his guitar, effects and looping.

In these five long tracks you will experience relaxed arpeggios and harmonies chasing eachother through textures of guitar pads that dilate our senses. And more, reversed phrases, roaring distant low-pitched notes as rumbling distant thunders, powerful reverbed and distorted riffs and chords.

There’s much stuff in this five steps that are simply titled I, II, III, IV, V, a magic digit sequence of a time-warped pendulum…

So sit back in your favorite armchair in front of a sunset, raise the volume, or take your full range headphones, click “play” and listen loud, relax, take a deep breath and count slowly from one to five and soon you’ll be…

Yan Terrien – Music For Corridors

Yan Terrien – Music For Corridors
[SCM-1607]

Yan Terrien

“Music For Corridors”

Yan Terrien comes back with this second release on Sucu Music talking about the suspended atmosphere of hospital corridors.

Music For Corridors magnificently renders that sense of waiting. Each track infact shows the multifaceted aspects of a waiting in a hospital corridor, whether it is you waiting for your own fate or one of your loved ones is.

A waiting which sometime is trustful, powerless, serene, hopeless, heroic, hopeful. It’s a music that’s plenty of intense feeling and emotion, it’s a music that empowers the listener to understand further dimensions starting from lucidly observating details, common objects, views, as the songs’ titles suggest.

The album is mainly piano based, melody and harmony of each track develops accompained with light synths sounds and textures, quirky noises and low distant voices. The sensation is just like if our thoughts were focused on their own, barely distracted by what comes around.

We’re very happy to present a release of a great artist like Yan Terrien for the Netlabel Day 2016 special event, wishing him to present us more and more music in the future.

AVOIDANT

“AVDN”

Drone ambient album by AVOIDANT following the them of the substitution of reckless passion for reclusion, the loss of drive to be intimate and the consequential manifestation of madness through anxiety. We’re dealing with visions of a perfect body, absent, above all: intangible. There is, although, a time for everything, and rising from the depths seems possible.

[SDR032]

I Neurologici, Miz Brown, Resina, Ras Moray, Shiny D

“Dub Lucky Riddim”

Scorching heat, but the Riddim To Riddim series does not stop. Although late, this riddim comes to refresh us, previously unreleased but tied to the second release of the series, Get Chicken as fraternal twins.
The first two tracks are interpretations of two exceptional female voices, which give us two shades as diverse as equally intimate and personal. The first marks the return of Miz Brown with her powerful voice and her confident style, the second is the debut in the reggae scene of Resina that gives more new sounds to the Roman dub collettive’s music.
The third track is another Ras Moray’s song from the album Out Of City, always with a new mix for the occasion.
Our last guest is another Riddim To Riddim’s assiduous: Shiny D with another perfectly fitting melodica version.
As always the riddim closes the release, for use of those who want to try their skills with I Neurologici’s productions.

C. Reider / Tarkatak

“Azure Bell, Midnight Well “

Collaborations with Lutz Pruditsch of Tarkatak seem to have an extremely long gestation period. When we first collaborated on The Druser Pricid, the recording was completed in 2000, but not released until 2003. The same is true of Azure Bell, Midnight Well. Lutz and I exchanged sources long enough ago that I completely have forgotten when it was. The sources sat for a long time, unused. Then music began to take form, then the unfinished mixes sat for a few more years. I determined myself to get the mixes finished sometime last year, only to find that my contact info for Lutz was out of date, and he no longer has much internet presence! I finally sent the masters to him in April 2016 and we agreed to go ahead with this release. Our first release together has always had a lot of admirers, I hope this one also finds receptive ears. ////////

All sounds on this release were manipulated, arranged and composed by C. Reider, using sound sources provided by Lutz Pruditsch.

[SDR031]

Laylah, I Neurologici

“Amalgama”

Amálgama is: The mixture of different elements as a whole.
A chemistry between Mercury and Silver. Mercury is also the messenger of the gods (Greek mythology), fluid metal known as “prata-viva”.
Literally and peculiarly, Amálgama has the same meaning and basically the same spelling in a broad universe of languages, making it understandable for everyone.
In this album, refers to any influence that experiences (many of them unrelated to music itself) bring to the composition, such as family, places, everyday people , ethnic roots, common aspirations, everyday …
Amálgama is the willingness to talk about the world as living experiences.
The inspiration at the most unpretentious moments, which this album rescues, is the main compositions of the singjay Laylah along her way in Reggae Sound System culture, which began around 2005.
Amálgama is a fusion between music and truth.

[LOR078]

Phil Maguire

“this this”

“this this” is an extraordinary collection of sounds made with a Raspberry Pi (the credit card sized bit of circuitry which is used to teach kids about coding). Maguire manages to create a world of microscopic sounds, clicks, whirrs and fields of electrical noise that are compellingly alien, and yet capture something of the excitement of those early forays into “glitch” music of the mid ’90s. It’s a whole new delicate beauty..

Solaris – Summer Edits

Solaris – Summer Edits
[LOR069]

Solaris

“Summer Edits”

Solaris was formed by Mark Sanderson, Richard Sanderson and Mark Spybey as young krautrock fans in Teesside in 1974, when they were aged 12 and 13. As the members grew up through post-punk, electronic music and free improv they have remained friends and still occasionally record together. These sessions were produced by Mark Spybey in Northumberland in 2010 and 2012 during the Summer holidays, and although the musicians have matured in the intervening decades, the influences of those original favourites (particularly the improvisational alchemy of Can and the cut-ups and aggression of Faust) are still audible.

Linear Obsessional is delighted to present their debut album- some 42 years after forming!

“Sinfonía para un hombre solo… en su casa” (Symphony for a man alone… in his home), a piece composed in the second half of 2015 based on recordings made in the parks of the neighborhood of “Conquistadores” in the city of Medellin, in apartment 203 of the building “Los Vikingos” in the same neighborhood, and on the day of San Jose in the year 2013 or 2014 in the district of Santa Elena on the outskirts of Medellin. This piece is a tribute to Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, dedicated to María Juliana and our new home; to Peluza, Azuka, and Mizu and their new parks, and to the men alone in their houses full of possibly expressive sounds.

Fake Cats Project – Russian Canon

Fake Cats Project – Russian Canon
[SCL183]

Fake Cats Project

“Russian Canon”

Russian Canon is the first CD of the Moscow based Fake Cats Project. The title certainly doesn’t mean our seventeen pieces form the Russian Canon, rather we are in search of it.
We try to avoid Russian cliches, but sometimes play with them. There are no folk songs accompanied by bayan (the Russian Accordion) though you will hear Kiriill Makushin playing bayan. We don’t play typical Russian rock, though Alexey Borisov is a luminary of Russian rock himself, of the bands Nochnoi Prospect and Tsentr. This is not an album of the Russian intelligentsia, singing their sad, simple songs around the kitchen table, though some fragments were recorded by Igor Levshin in Alexey’s kitchen.
Our Russian Canon is not confined to national culture: we use the Turkish saz and Latin percussion. Our electric guitars certainly do not originate from Russia, and Konstantin Sukhan’s trumpet is more akin to Free Jazz rather than any Russian tradition.
Any overlaps with industrial music or krautrock are sometimes coincidental and sometimes deliberate. Since there is a Russian tradition of fierce speculation on philosophy or revolution at the kitchen table, we use for our sound not cast iron rails, but a buffet filled with utensils, bottles, glasses and a trash bin. We’ve also added the creaks of rusty swings, screams, laughter and the songs of ordinary people in the Moscow streets. We include both the sane and insane, because no Russian Canon can go without a touch of insanity.
