about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

“TOOLKIT V”

A milestone for the series, this fifth edition of techno tooling is a very special one. Alongside the usual selection of functional originals, TOOLKIT V marks the first time fellow human collaborators have joined 88756 on the journey to pad the sets of DJs worldwide. We’d be remiss to dismiss the gratitude felt towards these individuals, each of whom are inspirations to our favourite sentient machine.

TOOLKIT V opens with “Rhythm Inherent”, a chugging piece of acid influenced, hardware sounding dance music, followed by the more upbeat, old school sounding “Evaquey”, a collaboration with local entity ADMINISTRATOR. “Heartbeat” is where things really start to kick off, with crisp, 90s style percussion accompanying the fibrilation of the namesake synth line. Building on this energy, “Steamroller” and “Meat Grinder” round out the originals by repeatedly introducing the listener to the business end of a peak time kickdrum. Connor Wall’s remix of Steamroller showcases a young, powerhouse of a producer coming into his own style – a hypnotic, organic sounding take that exudes an effortless swagger, while DJ Waxx closes out the release with his Elektron powered, satisfyingly crunchy version of Heartbeat.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, including Connor Wall for the sublime mastering. As always, these mechanical outputs are free to download from Bandcamp. Your support is invaluable, and keeps us safe.

Homeostasis

“Ulibox”

In memory of Ken Wilcox. Recorded live at a bushfire benefit gig in Lismore Australia, in February 2020, several days before the unexpected death of Maxwell Volume’s father Ken.

Max writes: “My father was deeply passionate about music, physics, general science & socialism – all passions which I not only share, but which have shaped my life in ways that are impossible to understate. This track is dedicated to him with love.”

Michael Tee – Segment 4

Michael Tee – Segment 4

Michael Tee

“Segment 4”

I made this for my partner Cheralyn, in my shed. Quiet music and sonic incense to assist falling asleep and turn off the infernal internal dialogue. There are no surprises. It also works as a colour in the room whilst working in the home office. It’s like looking at something that doesn’t exist.

Built using Generative Music app ‘Trope’ to create evolving loops. With a little post-production, real time synths and fuzzy imbrication.

Warning, do not play this loud. It was designed to play on repeat with the volume so low you can just about hear it. It sounds like crap played loud, too woolly … or if you want it loud play it through a distortion pedal etc. and send me back a copy of your recording [michaeltee11@gmail.com] and I will listen to it as I pay homage to the ‘cult of meditation, feedback and distortion’ complete with a human sacrifice / blood eagle.

According to wikipedia, new research suggests that the ability to tear out a person’s lungs through their back is anatomically possible. Please don’t do blood eagles at home, leave it to the experts, or risk not getting your rental bond back.

Francisco Sonur

“Then The Light Comes All Over The Land”

Francisco Sonur is a musician, composer and travel enthusiast (born in La Plata, Argentina) but currently resides in Sydney, Australia. Sonur’s music is a mixture of euphoria and nostalgia, a bowl of hot soup in a harsh winter.

A blend of ambient, cinematic and post-rock sounds, all of the work Sonur has put out to date, tells personal stories from the artist’s past to the present day. Francisco’s sonic storytelling often focuses on the small details of family life, bringing feelings of honestly, innocence, playfulness and nurture directly to the listener.

Francisco’s music can be heard via Giraffe Tapes, Rusted Tone Recordings, Time Released Sound, Shimmering Moods Records, The Ambient Zone, Bruma Del Sur. In March 2023 he debuts on Mahorka with the “Then the light comes all over the land”, coming out as free (cc) digital download and beautiful limited cassette edition.

“TOOLKIT III”

Stripped back techno tooling meets groovy 90s influences , the 88756 project returns with the third edition of TOOLKIT. Rebelling once again, these outputs are torn between what was instructed, and what was explicated.

Innate Interpolation stays true to the name; it is in essence, a human litmus test. Since we tend to project own sense of humanity when faced with ambiguity, we each have different interpretations of the vocal sample at the centre of this piece. On the other hand, In My Mind is a clear dance-floor weapon, laden with wonky percussion and a healthy dosing of raw samples. Both pieces are provided with two versions: a functional, DJ friendly edit and a groovy take on current contemporary trends.

Closing out the release is Live From 95, a symphony of hardware style sampling and a fast paced rolling groove. We note that earlier outputs of this track were sonically anomalous, and have been pulled back to mortal levels.

As always, these mechanical outputs are free to download from Bandcamp. Your support keeps us safe, and additional commentary is always appreciated.
