about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

Chris Whitehead – Habitats for Metal Plants

Chris Whitehead

“Habitats for Metal Plants”

Linear Obsessional is delighted to present this new release from Chris Whitehead – A EP of sonic environments to encourage the cultivation of metal plants, with an accompanying detailed PDF guide…

This CD was released simultaneously with Mark Browne’s “The Prejudices of History” (LOR049) – with which it shares some concerns and sounds.

“Since the Industrial Revolution the soil in Britain has changed considerably in its formulation. Where once it almost exclusively consisted of organic matter, it is now likely to hold high levels of metallic elements such as iron, aluminium and copper. Areas where industrial processes took place in the past but have since been reclaimed by nature are particularly rich in this residual metal content.

Plants growing in these environments have, by means of Darwinian natural selection coupled with sheer determination to survive, managed to incorporate various metals into their very DNA. The resulting species display a variety of features only made possible at the point where biology and metallurgy combine.

The aim of this guide is to assist the amateur metallobotanist in identifying these enigmatic plants, and also to instil enthusiasm into those armchair readers who have never searched the disused foundries of Sheffield for a reclusive Cutleri silvaservicia or listened attentively on the hills of West Yorkshire for the soothing sound of a clump of Alpine Cog Daisies (Coggi interlockia) gently turning in the breeze.

The two sound recordings included here have been developed to aid the growth of these unusual plants. By placing a speaker at either side of the specimen (ideally they should be equidistant and each no closer than two feet away) the sound produced will acoustically recreate a very favourable growing environment. Once brought indoors and planted in any kind of container what these organisms miss most are sound vibrations of a metallic nature.

By regularly subjecting your plants to these carefully composed and scientifically tested sounds (about twice a week is the recommended frequency) you should begin to see them flourish and possibly even bear fruit. Of course not all varieties are suitable to collect. Some are protected by law and others are just too bad tempered, quite frankly”

-Chris Whitehead, from the introduction to the booklet “Flora Metallicum Britannica- a field guide to the metallic plants of the Britsh Isles” (included with this download)

Art Electronix – Cold & Rusty

SCM.-1401

Art Electronix

“Cold & Rusty”

This music is minimalist and rough , but it makes your head swing to the beat, as much as it makes you feel the rhythm whistling in the pipes, gurgling in the tap, dripping like raindrops on the window sill, cats meowing and the fridge purring. All this turns into a rhythmic march of existence, the music of a musical box, or crammed tricky electronic circuits. As if robots were singing an ode to existence.

All Dystimbria releases utilize sound sources derived from previous releases on the label. The style of all tracks is somewhere between ambient and noise, a distinguished no-man’s land we call “quietnoise”.

Various Artists – Button Box

LOR047

Various Artists

“Button Box”

Button Box” is a collection of 46 mixes constructed from elements taken from the Linear Obsessional album “Air Buttons” by Richard Sanderson (LOR046)

“After releasing my album of melodeon and electronics improvisations, I decided to ask my friends whether they would be interested in reworking any of the material- ‘Please take any music at all from the new release (“Air Buttons” by me) and do what you want with it – mangle it, remix it, add things to it, sing over it, play a duo with it, slow it down, turn it into a tune, cut it up, whatever. BUT please make your contribution EXACTLY TWO MINUTES LONG’.
I was astonished by the reaction- soon sound files were flying at me from all over the world, including from friends of friends of friends, as well as from people who I’ve known since school days- collaborators from my post-punk days, free improvisers, morris dancers, other Linear Obsessional artists, even my next-door neighbour! The results are amazingly varied in style – and all are fascinating, and of course, none of them outstay their welcome.
So- enormous thanks to all my friends in the UK, France, Spain,Ireland, Sweden, USA and Malaysia, you have made me very proud”
-Richard Sanderson 2013

All tracks include at least some elements taken from the album “Air Buttons” by Richard Sanderson.

Richard Sanderson – Air Buttons

Richard Sanderson

“Air Buttons”

Air Buttons” is an album of improvisations for melodeon and electronics. Download includes a PDF booklet of notes and images.

Richard Sanderson- Melodeon, Footpedals ElectronIcs, Wind-Up Gramophone,
Contact Microphone, Field Recordings.

These pieces were recorded at home in Hither Green, usually on Friday afternoons when the housework was done and before the kids came back from school. As with my previous album of melodeon improvisations the instrument was recorded in three different ways â using footpedals (wah, distortion and pitch change), pushing it through contraptions made with Audiomulch software on my laptop, or augmenting it with other sounds â in this case, field recordings and a wind-up gramophone. The gramophone was recorded with a contact microphone (made by Jez Riley French) attached to the needle, or to a toothbrush. âAbove The Breakersâ was played on pre-WW1 one-row melodeon, all the others were played on a D/G Hohner Pokerwork. The title of âFlim Flamingoâ was suggested by Gary Widdowfield.. âVelux Dopplerâ was created from two field recordings- one of Beckenham Parish Church Bells, the other of the rain falling on the roof window of my bedroom. The field recordings on âShadeâ were made in my garden. The tracks were recorded 2011-13 and assembled November 2013. Thank you for listening.

Mood481

“Nothing to Fear”

Nothing to Fear is the 8th Mood481 album, composed and produced entirely on a pair of iPads.

Nothing to Fear brought a marked departure from the space-themed ambient compositions of previous Mood481 albums, moving into the realm of abstract, dark ambient exploration that has become the cornerstone of Mood481’s sound. Like many previous works, the majority of the tracks on Nothing to Fear find their genesis in algorithmic and physics-based generative composition techniques.

Former Descent

“The State Of In-Between”

Former Descent is the new Electronica project of Bas Welling, best known for previous works under the names Neurobit, R10T33R and Rioteer. Bas Welling created loads of chaos the past few years with his label Crackbeats wich has a focus on the extreme side of Breakcore, Noise and Digital hardcore. Some might know him as Neurobit who released quit some 8 bit mayhem on labels like Enfant Terrible and Retinascan. But he is also known as a producer and remixer for artists like Ra-X, The C64 Orchestra, Deathmaker, Meldy Peaches and Maurizio Bianchi. With Former Descent his music goes in a new direction, with strong influences by his aliases.

After releasing the debut 12inch “My life in the box of ghosts” on Shipwrec Records and recording a track for the soundtrack of the movie “Exploitation” by director Edwin Brienen, Former Descent is back with his first digital EP. “The State Of In-Between” contains 5 personal ambient tracks all recorded with a Yamaha Tenori-On between the 24th and the 28th of January 2013.

drmlgcc – treading

drmlgcc

“treading”

these are the darker sides of justin james a.k.a. drmlgcc: atmospheric and dense, yet spacious at the same time. three tracks, located somewhere between musical architecture and spontaneity, are the building blocks of “treading”. justin guides us through sounds as diverse as can be. they are at times repetitive and minimal, ambient and floating, experimental and playful. they are organic and synthetic, wild and fragile, and occasionally steeped in krautrock improvisation.

all of this forms the basis for drmlgcc’s sound stories – his slowly evolving, acoustic tales.

it took him quite some time to complete this release, let us spend all the time necessary to be taken away, to experience the three tracks thoroughly.
