Inhale Ashes is a young producer who loves folley sounds and effects. His sound has been influenced by glitchy triphop, electroswing and the like. In his tunes, carefully engineered and complex microstructures are used to assemble pulsating and groovy rhythms. The result is surprisingly direct and intense.

The pre-classical Greeks believed in the ability of men to become bears. One of the most commonly told stories is that of Callisto, who bore a child of Zeus – Arcas. Hera became jealous and transformed Callisto into a bear as punishment. Arcas, out hunting, came upon his mother and shot at her. Zeus, taking pity on the mother and son, changed them into Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the two great bear constellations. From this one myth comes a whole score of others. For instance, the name Arcas comes from the Greek word for bear – Arctos. By extension, the “Arkades” of Arcadia are supposedly descended from Arcas. Their name means bear-people.

whether working solo or with other collaborators, weldroid shows his mastery of sound design and composition, skillfully blending glassy, swirling pads and scattershot effects. noiseblips and distorted squarewaves recall the golden age of 8-bit gaming, mixed with signature bitcrushed percussion. often enough, these jagged sounds are layered with smooth, gentle atmospheric chords and hauntingly beautiful piano passages. somehow weldroid makes it all work: the fusion of darker, edgy leads, cut-up beats, and steady, slow arpeggios, blurred into crystalline infinity.
the newest weldroid record is a studied contrast between frenetic, aggressive textures and restrained, mellow interludes. the feverish energy from earlier releases is still present, but is now redirected into tightly focused bursts of glitch transmissions with a measured, melodic, thoughtful cadence.

With these words pronounced in Latin(1) by our friend and colleague Frank Benkho “Insula in Remix” begins, a collection of remixes and versions of the pieces that gave form to our disc “Insula in albis” (Pueblo Nuevo/Eolo, 2013). In a way, it is the final link of a work that started nearly two years ago, when we traveled with the support of the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) to a secluded place located on the borders of civilization: King George Island (South Shetlands, Antarctica). There we collected images and sounds, both natural and human in origin, in an environment in which the majestic landscapes contrast with the technology used to resist the onslaught of the elements. We met people of different nations and cultures, sharing together in this environment of water, stone, ice, and rusted metal.
We presented “Insula in albis” in the Teatro Municipal “José Bohr” in Punta Arenas in the Celebration of 50 years of the Chilean Antarctic Institute. At the beginning of 2014 we managed to return to King George Island and we presented the work before the personnel of the “Eduardo Frei” base, in what was our second recital in Antarctica. After having shown it in Buenos Aires and Santiago, we decided to invite other musicians to reinterpret our discoveries, to make them their own and give them new forms in their own style. We appreciate the time and effort each one invested in realizing their contributions. We hope that we manage to transmit once again to all those who follow our trajectory the excitement we feel when we put our feet on this island, where people live together in a way that the rest of the world should imitate. “Insula in Remix” is available here, to help you set forth on a sonic flight towards the Continent of Light.

Alexei Mikryukov aka King Imagine was born in 1972. His first song was sung and recorded at the age of 4. He began his career in music as a gutarist in the punk collective Zooy E Orchestar in 1989. In the same period some of the first bootleg recordings were made, all of them now lost. In the summer of 1993 he meets Eugene Alexandrov, with whom organizes The Schizotronics..and records solo. In 1996 together with the Kiev poet Danylo Kubai,he founds the noise industrial group Ilam, Inc. (or, rather a noise orchestra with 13 musicians, which gave an incredibly insane concert in the Kiev Actors House of Culture) and also the project Rooteniya Pe Since 1998 cooperates as sound engineer with the first Ukrainian reggae/dub group Rootmans Band, Karina Kuznetsova (with whom he works to this day) and the bass guitarist Kirill Machinski aka Roots Controlla, with whom he founds the digital roots dub project Dub Compressors.

In 1999 together with the composer Alexander Kohanovski aka Pankifared he starts the studio project Superapes, recording 2 albums, making experiments with electronic and ambient music, as well as composing music for escalators, elevators and corridors. Since 2004 actively cooperates with Foa Hoka as sound producer, remixer and contributor of music. Since 2005 releases his output on the d.i.y. CD-R label SKP Records (Kiev). Since 2006 actively cooperates w/International movement Ukr.tele.kom — as remixer, co-author and remastering engineer.

Number three of the finals sees the release debut of ‘Manchester’s Top Geeza’ HODSON, of ex-Skin Walker fame, flexing his musical muscles under the weight of this titanic mixture of spoken word, dnb, glitch and trip hop.
Dispelling specific genre focus in favour of atmospheric and tonal meanderings, HODSON’s five track effort covers aeons of ground, self-regarded in genre terms by HODSON himself as one only named ‘Particular’. Using chiptune as just one of several instruments, only adding further colour to the rich patchwork of influences on show, HODSON also adds sampled vocals and his own spoken word to weigh down tracks with an emotional vibrancy not seen often within the scene. From the delicate duality of guitar tones and big beat-esque drums in ‘Pink & Blue’, to the thick, suffocated dnb in ‘Somewhere Down In The West’ or the throbbing almost acidic bass in ‘Out To Pasture’, Colours That Glow In The Dark is as surprising as it is diverse, and another welcome addition to the TWG roster that we are estatic to be bringing to you.

«Снопы параной» – совместная работа «три на три». Три человека из трёх городов. Каждый принес с собой своё мироощущение, переживания, взгляды на жизнь и окружающую действительность. Астрахань, Москва и Чита. В обычной жизни, «по эту сторону реки, там, где боятся прыгнуть в прорубь или колодец», вряд ли что-то может так плотно связать эти города. Но в мире творческих экспериментов расстояния и различия в этногеографическом факторе сыграли на руку создателям альбома. Плотно нашпигованная музыкой, песнями и стихами, эта работа стала итогом годичного обдумывания, примерки и избавления от мундиров, снятия и обрастания чешуей.
