about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

“Historial de Caidas Remastered”

A series of misapprehensions tie me up to this record. The first time I read about José Manuel Cerda, I thought that a homonymous colleague, expert in Middle Ages History, had decided to unveil an unknown musical side. After downloading Doble ola EP, I thought this was his first album, strongly recommended by Richi Tunacola (“one of my Desert Island Discs”). That was the work I wholeheartedly agreed to review (“I love it”, I doubtlessly replied) and that, when I started listening to it, I wasn’t able to recognize it at all. I headed towards my 30-year-old list of cassettes and compact discs to confirm this was the first time I listened to Historial de caídas, indeed.

I’m aware of this unforgivable confusion in an era we are able to check almost every data on the music we listen to, unlike the 80s, when most of the times we thought the name of a band to be the name of a solo artist or an album, or that Rick Astley’s voice belonged to an unmistakably African-American singer instead of a pale, red-headed fellow. But these interferences and entanglements may also belong to a time when, in a couple of minutes, we are able to download a catalog it would have taken years to complete otherwise, a time when we listen to such an amount of songs it is almost impossible for us to learn their lyrics by heart.

I’m starting to think it’s a mistake to mention all of this, for I suppose José Manuel Cerda is much younger than I am. Wrong again: we are the same age. Maybe this is not a mistake. Maybe the beauty of a collection called Historial de caídas (Tumbling Records) is, precisely, the vindication of error, diversion, and failure, trying to find a room and meaning for all of them. And this is the very gesture reinforced by this new release: at a time when the whole world around seems to collapse, not just our little lives, the traces of light these compositions offer resonate in a paradoxically hopeful manner.

This is also a self-reflective memory exercise of an album that turns out to be ten years old, but also the samples’ contained coming from long ago. I ask José Manuel, (although I’m not sure to call him by his real name, or El sueño de la casa propia, or Bruxista), about some of the audio references. He mentions Michael Jackson, The Flaming Lips, Nelly Furtado, David Bowie, Shellac, among other FLAC files inside a folder: “they were not just favorites, there were also rarities or mainstream pop records, raw material for extracting meaningful loops to construct a sonic building around, according to what they suggested”. These buildings, by the way, resemble Neto Iturrieta’s collage structure used as a cover for the first release, their elements flexibly and precariously combined, like an ephemeral piece of architecture.

If I’ve listened to Historial de caídas in 2010, I may have indulged in comparisons with other cratedigging/cut ‘n’ paste masters, such as The Books, but now I pay much more attention to some of the tracks tribal power, rhythms almost flirting with our very own cueca. I think the “latinamerican” label sounds kinda cliché, but it may properly apply here. I’m still listening to it on a cold, silent morning, through a spring afternoon, interrupted from time to time by a neighbor’s drill. Maybe that drill could be sampled. This makes me think about what would happen if we heard it coming through this record. And I listen to it once again, till becoming one of my Desert Island Discs.

Whirlpool des Grauens
3 Track Album

Breakbeat Heartbeat

“I’ll never be this happy again”

This is an album about wanting to travel more and see new things. I’m shy as hell and bad at talking to people and I’ve been unhappy for ages because of it. I need to just say yes to things it’s so easy to say no to. This album is for that ✨

I can’t thank anyone who takes the time to listen to it enough – you are my heroes! Having someone to listen to some of the nonsense I write is so validating and I love you all. Writing this got me through so much! 🌈🌈🌈

Today we at blocSonic are thrilled to present to you the latest in our long running netBloc compilation series! Back in 2006 when founder Mike Gregoire first conceived of the idea, he would have never imagined that about fourteen years later he’d still be delivering his specially crafted series celebrating netlabel and Creative Commons music culture. However, here we are. If you’ve been listening since the early years, thank you for continuing to do so. We know that in recent years we’ve been a bit inconsistent with the release dates, but we have a plan to move forward with quarterly releases. Read the full story in the PDF. If you’re new to the series, thank you for listening. I hope this is the first of many you download and listen to!

This time around we’ve got a selection of twelve eclectic and incredible songs from artists all over the world released between 2014 and 2020. Simply put, #ccmusic at it’s best. So, go ahead and download. Enjoy.

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP

Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP
[pn165]

Poetas Marcianos

“AFRODYZIACO EP”

Pandemic and all, Poetas Marcianos have been working quietly, persistently, and with great conviction from a few years ago, present an advance of their second album, “Afrodyziaco”. Containing six out of thirteen tracks, they provide a glimpse of an elaborated, disciplined endeavor. Their framework, already presented in their first album, released in 2015, consists mostly in three-to-four -minutes-long tracks arranged like little intelligent-techno-pop goldsmiths. Music for trance, dancing in the midst of an electronic drunkenness, or for attentive listening, since this framework is filled with sonic and compositional details.

Words are by Poeta Morgue and Poeta Oz, except “Respiro Azul”, by Sandriuska Theremin; music is generally by Morgue; arrangements are by the group, carrying a predominant quasi psychedelic sonic quality around them, fitting very well in the communicative atmosphere these artists aim at. Creative and intelligent sound inserts closing some tracks are real highlights, such as “El Diario de Tesla” (Tesla Journal), a beautiful retrospective of an individual’s cosmic vicissitude turning into an anti military claim; or “Respiro Azul” hypnotic trance, where Sandriuska’s vocals number, both in Mapudungun and Spanish, sensitive political mapuche claims, closing with a tribal voices and fifes invocation ritual. A highlight we are grateful for is that beats and rhythmic patterns are not programmed in a constant tempo: there are variations, moving from 4/4s to 7/8s, some of them easily danceable to or inviting a careful listening, for the theremin and other electronic devices outer space touch connects us to German 1970s prog, specifically Cluster and Harmonia. Thus, these tracks run away from the rhythmic and melodic monotony found in many Chilean electro pop artists productions.

Thus, the overtly political aims of these songs deconstruct cheap national cliché, such as the ironic Chilean cuisine praise (“Cazuela”), Chilean singer Rosita Serrano’ Nazi flirtings (“Transgénica”), or local pop culture tributes, like 1980s comic strip characters (Lautaro Parra’s “Blondi” or Marcela Trujillo’s graphic novels) becoming claims on sexual and gender discrimination or helpless, proletarian descamisadas masses. Words are skeptical, parodic, filled with an overt, bitter irony, revealing these poet/musicians literary background and their mastery of present-day oral and vocal poetry resources.

Suffice to say that that “Blondi” has also been taken to video clip format -available via YouTube-, in a 1920s German expressionist silent cinema aesthetic.

Poetas Marcianos music isn’t escapist at all, carrying a dramatic intensity, as a result of both vitality and social critique, not falling prey to many politicians’ grave mood, likely to present existential martyrdom as the only politically correct way. This band’s work presents true criticism, providing also room for humor in their ultramodern electronica and poetry mixture enchantment.

Since we’re really close friends with the band, I see no conflicts in reviewing their work. I try to keep a distance, but the eulogy fits here, for this album contains very good music and poetry. As simple as that.

“Imaginary World”

Yoko Imamura lives in Kyoto and she always had a deep love for Piano. The basis of her music is classical music, but she also likes various genres of music.

The album contains seven tracks of soft, melodic piano instrumentals that sound like they were written so listeners could the beauty of a not too densely written piano composition.

This “Imaginary World” was created for something which can be played on quiet evenings or sunday mornings, knowing that it will be a comfortable ride until the last track has passed.

“Bralitz Vol. 3”

Bralitz 2014 was special. Well, Bralitz is always special. But 2014 – „Aaahhwoo” – probably was our most distinctive and fun festival. Being our first two day festival, it took a lot of work preparing it. We even built an outside stage with our own hands, while getting eaten by mosquitoes.

Still we managed to record some music during the week. For the first time there was a song with German lyrics – that’s special, too.

Bralitz connoisseurs will surely miss Nicolas Falcon’s trade mark voice and songwriting – he couldn’t be there that year. But he will be back for one of the next chapters!
