about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

Monkey Warhol – EP4

Monkey Warhol

“EP4”

Born in the late-1800s Monkey Warhol began making electronic music of various sorts, tones, and timbers in 1947. Inspired by Bob Dylan’s loud and abrasive “Metal Machine Music”, Monkey turned to music as a source of income after failed stints as both a zookeeper and dental hygienist. EP4 is HIS take on POP music (watch out Max Martin… there’s a new sheriff in town!).

Martin Fahy – …when my heart’s fire rages out of control…

[Siro797]

Martin Fahy

“…when my heart’s fire rages out of control…”

Philadelphia native Martin Joseph Fahy (1954-2016) was a prolific singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and performer, whose career spanned more than four decades. He touched numerous lives, and was loved by many.

The recordings presented here represent a small fraction of the man’s total creative output, which, had it been preserved in it’s entirety, would have filled volumes. This release was assembled to celebrate his life as an artist, and to mark his passing.

Jan Strach – Rosknrolmusis E.P.

[UPL 072]

Jan Strach

“Rosknrolmusis E.P.”

As per yearly tradition, Jan presents an ep with material that did not fit the full-length album from previous year, in this case “Jan Pierwszy Starszy”. As with every JS e.p. there are no rules and the diversity of genres is breathtaking. Here we have casio-retro-wave, guitar post rock, noisy guitars overlaying, joyful turkish zurna-pop with broken time signature and an anthem of the priviledged man with a sturdy beat. As always on Underpolen netlabel, the lo-fi and DIY atmosphere is everpresent in spirit and on surface.

Fodiator – No Reason

[SCL188]

Fodiator

“No Reason”

“High up in the attic in the middle of the night… a faint light”

Van Ooij (1970) grew up in the south of the Netherlands and was brought up around music. His father was a local folk singer and Joris had the privilege to try out all old and strange instruments his father made and gathered over the years. Van Ooij followed violin lessons and played a lot on the harmonium. From a young age he started to write his first songs, formed a group with his schoolmates and at the age of 13 they act on national Dutch TV. He bought his first synthesizer at his 15th birthday ( Korg ms10) and that seemed to be the start of experimenting and playing a lot with more ectronic sounds & instruments.
He started to write for theatre and in 1996 he co-wrote the soundtrack and leader for a 26 episodes Dutch tv series named “West-Zijde Posse”
With the urge to create and as a kind of escapism he founded Fodiator (after a genius of the flying fish family) in 2010. A melancholic blend of indie, pop, rock, folk and more….call it “commuter-pop”. His sound, made with all kinds of instruments in combination with his “falsetto” voice has a strong weakness… he often jokes.

Press & Support:
– 22 tracks Brussels:
“The things we learn while selecting these 22tracks! Apparently, a ‘Fodiator’ is a genius of the flying fish family. Next to that, it’s also a project started by songwriter Joris van Ooij in his attic. He’s an self-taught musician who creates his songs alone and then performs them with his Dutch – Belgian band. Van Ooij likes to create an atmospheric and melancholic blend of indie, pop & folk, that reminds us of what makes acts like Efterklang, Menomena and Guillemots so great. Great stuff for the winter, that is coming’’.

– Radio1 Belgium:
“Sometimes it is allowed to play plain pop music, so with this song by Fodiator. A rich layered sound and great story about the longing for the first sunny day of the season, told in just 2.24 minutes.”

– 3voor12 :
“Joris van Ooij, musician behind Fodiator is offering his unpolished music, made on his attic, on the internet….We heard four quiet promising tracks that we hope will appear to hear on EP soon.”

– Elite Muzik:
“I found a new record from Fodiator, an upcoming indie band out of Holland. The record is titled “No Reason”, and sound pretty dam good, give it a listen…”

Lucian Freud – Lucrid

[BM09R16]

Lucian Freud

“Lucrid”

Do you miss Nirvana? Hot-new awesome release! Straight from Baltimore/USA – Lucian Freud band and “Lucrid” material.
Just listen to “The Gift of the Grubs” or “Covered in Blood”! What a sound! Nirvana comparison is not overblown at all. But it’s not enough to describe what Lucian Freud’s music is. And it’s not fair to try. Netlabel’s discovery of the year so far!

Lucian Freud’s inspirations: Nirvana, Van Halen, Agent Orange, The Cure, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Butthole Surfers, Cop Shoot Cop, Cream, David Bowie, Ryu Umemoto, California X, Dead Kennedys, The Talking Heads, Devo, Archers of Loaf, Dinosaur Jr., Elliot Smith, Failure, Shellac, Pavement, Pixes, The Police, Rush, Sonic Youth, Thin Lizzy, Tony Molina, Trans Am, The Who.

Deftechnixks – Dfxx EP

[UPL 071]

Deftechnixks

“Dfxx EP”

Deftechnixks explores the core of noisy rock music, by stripping it of all non-essentials. All that is left is energetic experimental post-punk clatter featuring unschooled screaming, a drumset consisting of boxes and tins, and an electric guitar with strings crossed. This results in a heap of joyful, noisy rock-bashing in the amateur, passionate spirit characteristic for all underpolen releases.

Scrapple – Apple From The Scrapple

[SCL187]

Scrapple

“Apple From The Scrapple”

Projekt Luty – Dygnitarz

[UPL 070]

Projekt Luty

“Dygnitarz”

In December 2015 the commonest comember of Projekt Luty, Stach, visited the Nad Garażem Studio fresh from the British Isles for a joyful recording session. As always the project’s aim is to combine the knowledge and abilities of a person with (some) musical abilities, and the enthusiasm and fresh approach of a person unblemished with musical-theoretical background. And as always, at the crossroads we have an unimitable, undefineable organized chaos galloping through psychedelia, krautrock, punk, post-punk, even ambient and grunge, while keeping its lo-fi and homemade charm.

Artem Bemba – Sanctuary

[SCL186]

Artem Bemba

“Sanctuary”

Artem Bemba — Sanctuary

The Cream Canteens – Moderate Peril

[djummi.005]

The Cream Canteens

“Moderate Peril”

The Cream Canteens bring you ‘Moderate Peril’

Feast your ears! This eagerly-awaited EP is a musical summit in all respects: a meeting of minds returned from remote audio peaks with a knapsack of treasure.

The Canteens fuse their digital experiments with the wiles of ancient folklore, creating a palette that is all their own. Each track is a bittersweet quest, moving from melodic flute ditties to sonic fuzz barrage, from lo-fi tinkering to laser-synth pyrotechnics. These warm-hearted tunes are guided by a firm hand on the tiller, with a daydream nod to the darker shores…

So, lay back and relax on this trans-Europa express and immerse your lobes in a mildly-threatening aural treat!

Jan Strach – Jan Pierwszy Starszy

[UPL 069]

Jan Strach

“Jan Pierwszy Starszy”

The title could suggest that this is a debut, [“Jan the first the elder”], but it is far from the truth – this album is JS’s 60th (sixtieth!) release overall and 8th under his own name. But at the same time, after years of refining, meandering and looking for his “own sound”, the sworn-lofi experimental casio rocker claims to finally have achieved the middle ground between all his influences and interests on this one. And although jumping between many styles, it is in fact his most balanced yet – synth-pop, post-punk, shoegaze, chillwave, experimental tendencies leave enough space to breathe for pop sensibilities and epic synths – and as usual DIY spirit ensures that nothing is ever too calculated and lifeless – things constantly move, snap to place, click and keep the sounds flowing organically. And all Jan Strach trademarks are still here, distorted synths, some heavy guitars, some lovely delayed noodlings, romantic strings, odd time signatures, noisy outbursts, curious samples, and plenty of plain weirdness.

Proudly released on July 14th as part of the global Netlabel Day 2016, on the best Polish place for the homemade DIY lofi weirdness, Underpolen Netlabel.

Fake Cats Project – Russian Canon

[SCL183]

Fake Cats Project

“Russian Canon”

Russian Canon is the first CD of the Moscow based Fake Cats Project. The title certainly doesn’t mean our seventeen pieces form the Russian Canon, rather we are in search of it.
We try to avoid Russian cliches, but sometimes play with them. There are no folk songs accompanied by bayan (the Russian Accordion) though you will hear Kiriill Makushin playing bayan. We don’t play typical Russian rock, though Alexey Borisov is a luminary of Russian rock himself, of the bands Nochnoi Prospect and Tsentr. This is not an album of the Russian intelligentsia, singing their sad, simple songs around the kitchen table, though some fragments were recorded by Igor Levshin in Alexey’s kitchen.
Our Russian Canon is not confined to national culture: we use the Turkish saz and Latin percussion. Our electric guitars certainly do not originate from Russia, and Konstantin Sukhan’s trumpet is more akin to Free Jazz rather than any Russian tradition.
Any overlaps with industrial music or krautrock are sometimes coincidental and sometimes deliberate. Since there is a Russian tradition of fierce speculation on philosophy or revolution at the kitchen table, we use for our sound not cast iron rails, but a buffet filled with utensils, bottles, glasses and a trash bin. We’ve also added the creaks of rusty swings, screams, laughter and the songs of ordinary people in the Moscow streets. We include both the sane and insane, because no Russian Canon can go without a touch of insanity.
