about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Wapstan & Hal McGee – Cruststain

Wapstan & Hal McGee

“Cruststain”

Wapstan & Hal McGee – Cruststain
CrustStain consists of paired 62-minute microcassette recordings by Wapstan (Martin Sasseville, Montreal, Quebec) and Hal McGee (Gasinesville, Florida). In early 2012 Wapstan recorded random and varied sounds from his daily life in Montreal (including radio and TV and sporting events, machine sounds, minimal electronics, etc.) in collage fashion on a microcassette and mailed it to McGee. McGee listened to Wapstan’s tape once through to get the general feeling of the flow of the sounds, and then he set about recording sounds from his daily life, from work, home, streets, restaurants, stores, conversations, etc. After McGee completed his tape he mixed his and Wapstan’s tapes together strictly on a one-to-one basis, arbitrarily, creating a happy-accident lo-fi crusty bruitistic dual-track juxtaposition celebration of the mundane drenched in tape hiss audio collage.

Fires Were Shot

“Maritime”

Fires Were Shot – Maritime
Fires Were Shot are an amazing instrumental duo from Texas, United States. Their sound can be categorized as textural, guitar driven ambient music. No-Source Netlabel is excited to debut Fires Were Shot’s long-form single, “Maritime” to the world. Fans of Cheer, talkingmakesnosense, or Brian McBride (of Stars of the Lid) will instantly fall in love with the sound of Fires Were Shot. Maritime, at over twenty eight minutes, takes you on a journey out to sea and back. Field recordings of the ocean are quickly engulfed by layer upon layer of guitar drones, delay and plucking. While out in the waters surrounded by the deep, you find yourself at last. This is melodic acoustic drone that should be held up right next to the very best.

The Plastic Jazz Orchestra

“39°”

The Plastic Jazz Orchestra – 39°
“When talking about music with people, for saying things like “this beat is taken from …” i often get replys like: “yeah maybe, but i like it anyways.” If there wouldn’t be these “but, anyways” i’d be fine with it. We’re all stuck in the 18th century mentally. In the Middle Ages “componere” still had the original meaning of “to enclose”. It was taken for granted to derive new chorales from older ones. Usually parts of such compounds were composed but not completely new works. Whole works were crafted (=facere) which is a facile idea of mechanic humility, something we should care about.”
(Bernd Burnson)

The Plastic Jazz Orchestra was formed by Bernd Burnson in late 2006 as an ensemble electronique for modern music. Tragically Bernd Burnson passed away in summer 2007 and left behind a bunch of young people determined to create something completely different, something new in terms of musical expression. So the tracks from ’39°’ by The Plastic Jazz Orchestra had never been compositions in their origins but handcrafted pieces of what we call music.

Fature – Bad Form
A lot of Fature’s fifth album pays tribute to the pioneers of the West London and Broken Beat music scene and is heavily influenced by artists like Domu, 4Hero and Mr Scruff. “Bad Form” takes on a more stylistic and jazzy approach to his previous albums but also has sprinkles of Ambient and Drum ‘n Bass to exhibit his many talents.

Zreen ToyZ – Grimoire of Eternity

[NN_LP012_03_12]

Zreen ToyZ

“Grimoire of Eternity”

Zreen ToyZ – Grimoire of Eternity
French artist Zreen ToyZ (born in 1954) often presents himself as Sound Sculptor or Sound Poet. After few years in classical training on piano and percussions, he does not appreciate the stifling conformity of the academy and turns to the improvised musics. The continuation of its training is essentially self-taught. Since his first pieces created in 1970, he works the sound material following inspiration of the moment, a raw and instinctive approach by stratification where any imperfection or sound incident become a harshness on which to hang on atmospheres or reflections. In this way, he creates impalpable and timeless landscapes where vibrations, noises, and collages erase the structure of the piece. “Grimoire Of Eternity” is the 12th album as Zreen ToyZ and it seems to be the last one…it’s reincarnated in the “Arcane Waves” project.

“string theory”

sarah j ritch – string theory
sarah j ritch is a composer and improviser from chicago whose interest in classical composition arose from both her studies in piano and cello as well as explorations of the guitar and bass in punk and metal bands in las vegas between 1996 and 2003. she eventually landed in chicago and earned a bachelor of music from roosevelt university and a post-baccalaureate certificate in sound from the school of the art institute of chicago. she has been the composer-in-residence for chicago classical ensembles the millennium chamber players and anaphora, and regularly performs solo and with her free improv group sound collision alliance.

on her debut album, string theory, sarah displays her interest in both improvised noise and notated tonal music as she explores the acoustic structures of strings and sines. over the course of the album electronically treated cello gives way to droning and pizzicato violin; a pure drone at the center resolves itself with a rising and falling violin sonata; and a cello converses with itself in woodtones.

VA – 4 Years, 101 Songs and 1 Story
We, the people who make Rawmatroid team, are happy to write these lines after 4 years, feeling the same love, the same pride and equal respect for what we do that we felt the very first day, and keeping the same desire to share all our work with others.

After all this time we thought about doing a small review of the musical history of the netlabel. For this reason, in our now 4 th anniversary of Rawmatroid Netlabel, we have had the selection criteria and musical reinterpretation of Kebiin along with the subjective view of the lens of Javier Alvedro, to be the two of them who write this chapter and tell as a little story about the history of Rawmatroid as mix.

Zeugshmitz

“twenty_eleven”

Zeugshmitz – twenty_eleven

The Alternative/Indie band Zeugshmitz from Brunico is making music since the 90’s. From the band’s formation in 1992 on, its members Egon “Niggile” Niederkolfer (bass), Gerd „Stolle“ Stoll (guitar and vocals), Klaus “Knut” Balzarek (guitar and vocals) and Matthias “Matti” Pallua (drums), have been active and valuable members of the South Tyrolean music scene.

In 1996 the band released its debut album “The Zeugschmitz” which was presented live in South Tyrol as well as in nearby countries. After that, the band took a break from performing on stage and focused on writing new songs for their 2006 album “It takes time”.

The band members write and arrange all songs themselves, played over 100 live shows with the same line-up and celebrated the band’s 20th anniversary in 2012. Just the right occasion to release the Zeugshmitz’s brand new album “twenty_eleven”, which is available as free and legal download on Airbagpromo Records right now: www.airbagpromo.com/records

Akauzazte – Azalberritan
“… if we understand evolution as a way to make between respect for the heritage and memory, Akauzazte show us that have chosen the best way, perhaps the hardest, but the right one. Unashamed of debts on their teachers, and instinctively following the footsteps of nomadic paths crossed by them, Akauzazte been known to seek, find and shape their own personality. Dancing in the shadow of popular music, fornicating with rock, and looking fearlessly face to face, the avant-garde, Akauzazte invites us to know your personal world of sound. Between two edges: one real and raw, and a soft, imaginary, as the two skins of the snake. With new skin, but with the same head, Akauzazte.” (Xabier Erkizia)
