about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

xDEx

“PANTA RHEI (πάντα ῥεῖ)”

xDEx is a project and main scene pseudonym of Victor Prodanov. Lately, the constant accelerating societal decay and de-stricturation, the alienating aspects of the globalisation processes and the so called “common thought” became, by their unavoidability and omnipresence, a field of inspiration and cynicism for this project. Victor’s longstanding fascination with DIY digital and analog electronics has put out a solid emprunt over his sound.

The release “PANTA RHEI” is his first and hopefully not the last on Mahorka, after years of discussions, preparations, variants and waiting for the right circumstances in the right moment to come for this debut on the label. Most of the drum parts are produced with 808 and 909 clones, the non-melodic sound layers are mostly filtered spring and digital reverbs, various overdrives and distortions, feedback loops; there are extensive modular synth recordings and most of the paddy parts originate from a FM8 clone and a Waldorf Blofeld. All tracks were recorded on a multitrack at one shot, with little post-editing.

Sai

“Random Motion Of Particles”

Sai, the dedicated studio project of Yasen Penchev, has been evolving a lot throughout the years, including since his debut album “Perspective seen from different point of view” was released in the summer of 2016, but the core of the project remains in experimentation with analogue and digital recording techniques and extensive use of various string instruments, with results varying from minimalistic ambient atmospheres and melancholic soundscapes to furious polyrhythmic drum patterns syncopated with loads of guitars and progressive rhythmic and melodic structures, music that has usually been fitted under Post rock, Math rock, Ambient and Trip rock and such.

3 years after releasing his outstanding debut Mahorka proudly presents “Random motion of particles”, Sai’s second masterpiece for the label and a notable milestone in the project’s evolution. Keeping the polymetric and polyrhytmic structural approaches and unique sound production techniques, he further extends and builds upon, this time less processed, even clean, guitars, less distortion, more melodic and harmonic compositions, more cinematic and atmospheric overall feeling with more and lusher ambient passages that include even whole tracks on their own.

“Random motion of particles” comes as free (cc) digital download and a precious limited edition (50 pcs) cassette release with outstanding design by Angel Draganov and Yasen Penchev himself. The tape has a different version of the album where the tracks have been redone in different edits and fused together by the artist for two side-long (30 minutes each) trips.

“Lithuanian Metrica”

Take a pipette and drip a drop of water on your own palm. Transparent drop, full of invisible organisms, chemical elements, and personifications. Looking at the drop, thoughts are spinning. With the other hand rub the drop until the drop penetrates the skin and disappears. Hands need lots of water, but it’s enough for this time. Look at the lake…

The album was based on Lithuanian Chronicles, history and historical personalities, who might be connected to each in strange ways. While working on each track special attention was given to convey with sounds all the aspects of each historical personality and their influence on the history of Lithuania.

“Drinkble Coolant”

Sticky and cold silicone sealants, spades and screwdrivers allow you to forget the crippling life threatening drama of Strict, Event and Resistance. Another pile-up of sand which was forcefully shaped into something comprehensible and mostly even danceable. Disclaimer – the danceable part is evaluated by the rhythmical insanity of the brain in control of the sequencer. Apply incorrectly and it’ll break your spine.

“perceived redness of an evening sky”

Qualia is ‘an unfamiliar term for something that could not be more familiar to us: the way things seem to us’, such as the perceived redness of an evening sky – it cannot be put into words. These compositions are an attempt to describe a space in the artist’s mind, a three dimensional region of emotion and feeling influenced by a fleeting yet intense period of saudade – an indescribable longing for something one never had.

“Aukštai”

Aũkštai (“Floors”) is a result of how overthinking leads the mind to multiple directions while searching for answers in the surroundings. These 5 stories reflect on how the mind works in different situations, whether it’s a cup of coffee in the morning by the favourite clock ticking down the time of waiting, taking a dog for a walk with thoughts of self-doubt, or whether it’s stone-tied drowning in the sea of paralysed body cells.

Dreamlike walk through inner depths, as if you were walking on thick ice surrounded by misty void and could wake up any second. The sounds reflect a journey through grief, anxiety, finding peace in solitude.

Written using virtual machines controlled by haunting Taoist infernal dreams inspired hands. Driven by the awareness of the plaguing fact that the artist has to compete with others by implementing his own ideas, not attached to anything in particular but his mind only. Showing features of artist’s body, heart and soul while he’s being in a state of a magical drive. A theater of mashing abstractions sampled and processed ideas, where complex beats and smashing sounds emerge to evoke energy and will inside the listener’s mind.

Origami Repetika – Red Zamboni

Origami Repetika – Red Zamboni

Origami Repetika

“Red Zamboni “

=- I sing a lot in this one.. moreso than in any of my previous releases. Most likely personal reflection reasons. I’m about to turn 39 soon and begin my 40th year of life. Red Zamboni was the second track of this family of songs recorded and I like it so much that I made a music video for it and sent it in to VideoRecords.ch. It’s different than the other four songs in that it didn’t receive any vocals, nevertheless, it’s in the same family as it was created the same way (arranging the chord progressions in chordbot on android then dropping them into renoise on pc where I do the recording, tracking, and rendering) as the other four. So instead of making Red Zamboni its own single and the four remaining songs an ep, I just decided to make it one ep altogether.

Every ice hockey arena needs a zamboni they can count on. And not just count on. One they can spell on too. Life isn’t always about numbers.

eww – The Cat Has Cometh!

“The Cat Has Cometh!”

This album is about beat impressionism, when the beat does not make the rhythm, but the mood instead. Breakcore and IDM inspired mess of beats and breaks and plastic.

When I was a child I used to gather all the wooden, metal and plastic boxes to make my “drum set”. I played my drums with spoons and sang aloud: “The cat has cometh!”. My passion for rhythmic music never faded, so, after growing up I still gathered all wooden, metal and plastic samples to make my virtual drum set.

I like when the beat is not merely a metronome, even my favourite rock bands have drummer leaders – “Magma” with Christian Vander and “高円寺百景” with Tatsuya Yoshida. I like when the beat is flow, when it creates melody, when it gives tempo not only by beating the drum faster or slower but by creating the feeling of speed or chill. I do not intend to create a total abstract avant-garde mess, which ceases to sound musical, instead, I want to create the impressionist-like approach, when complex structures give rise to clear and almost tangible impressions.

This “beat impressionism” might sound a bit harsh to an untrained ear, because that is how massive plastic sounds like. Just like metal music is basically harsh rock, so my plastic music is harsh IDM.

Most of the tracks were created 15 years ago. Maybe they were ahead of time? Or maybe they sound like your childhood? Because they definitely sound like my childhood.

As usual, every track has its own artwork.

The cat has cometh!

Number Eleven – Event

Number Eleven – Event
[EEM039]

Number Eleven

“Event”

Complex rhythmic combinations, constantly getting faster to the point of losing the structure and becoming a vast halo of drum-like noise tearing the last orchestral sounds, that couldn’t get ready for an end of a process that didn’t even start, and hopeless melodies that aren’t sure if they are supposed to exist.

Having difficulties to cope with worsening states of disorders, Event leaps to search for an answer by removing the definitions completely and allowing to make connections again, to feel attached to things that were once familiar and welcoming. Knowing that this way of searching for the source of the disorders will lead to a failure, by not being able to relate to those things, renders them strange, wiping all of them away. But one of those gets stuck, resisting to go away and holding everything together. The Event leads itself to disengage from everything that could be described with a definition.

V.A. – Fungi Compilation

V.A. – Fungi Compilation

V.A.

“Fungi Compilation”

Unlike plants, mushrooms cannot synthesize their own food from the sun’s energy. They lack chlorophyll – the substance which permits plants to use sunlight to form sugars from the water and carbon dioxide in the air. Mushrooms therefore had to develop special methods of living: symbiosis, saprophytism and parasitism.

Most of the mushrooms growing on the forest floor are intimately linked to trees by symbiosis. This association, called mycorrhiza, occurs between the root ends of a tree and the vegetative system of a mushroom. Mycorrhiza benefits both organisms: there is an exchange of nutrients, one providing to other what it cannot synthesize or extract from the soil by itself. In general, the mushroom helps the tree extract minerals and water from the soil; in exchange, the tree supplies the mushroom with sugar compounds (carbohydrates).

Saprophytism is another important living method for mushrooms, especially for species which grow on lawns, on rotting wood or on excrement. Here the mushroom’s role is one of decomposition. It feeds itself by digesting the organic matter and at the same time returns nutrients to the soil.

Finally, some mushrooms are parasites. There are several kinds of parasitism, ranging from the species which attacks a healthy host (tree, plant or insect) and lives on it without killing it, to the kind which attacks only unhealthy hosts, thereby hastening their death. The parasitic species are generally microscopic mushrooms.

Javier Moraga – Rasgos Particulares

Javier Moraga – Rasgos Particulares
[m029]

Javier Moraga

“Rasgos Particulares”

“Rasgos Particulares” is Javier Moraga’s debut release in Modismos catalogue. Its electronic influence can be traced back many years, through diverse publications inside specialized netlabels like EPA Sonidos and Pueblo Nuevo. He is part of the group Mr & Oso, while also working at Radio Valentin Letelier, the University of Valparaiso’s radio station. He produces the program “Sala de Maquinas,” as well as producing direct presentations and selects synthetic sounds for the station through it’s network, among other things. “Rasgos Particulares,” present delivery could be a sample about Moraga’s interests with contemporary electronic, where certain tone quality is acidic and minimal, as small condiments, they go extending upon alternating atmospheric layers, sustained on defragmented pulses, but traces of the music continue. These particular traits are expressed in the track “Tierno Salvaje” dedicated to the memory of Kurt, a figure that insufflated the spirit of the underground scene of Viña Del Mar and Valparaíso in the nineties, which opens the 52 minutes of music. The other tracks of the album spin perfectly, traveling through titles such as “Miaucheck,” “Arena Lunar (a lo salvaje)”, “Dame Cinco”, at certain moments there is something dark, with minor scales in the tones, a cinematic fiction of the digital reality that we consume daily, but allows us to unwind, yet expresses a world where the organic, virgin and primitive can coexist, as expressed in “Cayehuque (localidad)”. But the continuous progression in “Simulación Colectiva,” runs as a transit towards the final melody of “Rasgos Particulares,” from which a flash of faint light seems to emanate; it comes to a definitive closing with “Resolana.” Which offers a halo of light, in where the final harmony, reiterative and kaleidoscopic, solve all anguish, torment and conflict preceding, balancing the darkness.
