ЧЕРНИХОВ | CERNICHOV

“We are all deaf”

“We are all deaf” is the third full length album by ЧЕРНИХОВ | CERNICHOV, a noise/ambient duo based between Brussels and Milan, of US (David Gutman) and Italian (Marco Mazzucchelli) nationality.

“The album’s concept gravitates around the deep and actual contraposition given by the human strive for exploration: on one hand there is the total deafness towards the heartbeat of planet Earth, from a vibrational perspective expressed by the Schuman frequency, a sub bass frequency that can be resumed as the intimate physical expression of how our ecosystem relates in its environment. On the other hand, the exploration’s focus is monopolised by the infinite horizon that the eyes define. The Sputnik satellite becomes the first extraterrestrial exploration means, kept in contact with signals emitted at 40Hz. On these two main frequency inputs, the first as carrier for cross-modulation treatment and the second as a BPM driver, we explored a possible scenario of sonic interactions, ending with what we see as the soundtrack of our personal existence in this 4 dimensional world.”

Released January 14, 2024 as free (cc) digital download and limited digipak CD edition.

Wave Resistance – Cooper Pairs vol.1

Wave Resistance – Cooper Pairs vol.1

Wave Resistance

“Cooper Pairs vol.1”

Released December 20, 2023

“In some cases, during jam sessions, it is possible to reach a certain interesting state, during which intriguing compositions are born, which often do not require further post-processing. Such a unique creative phenomenon of musician collaboration resembles the pairing of electrons into Cooper pairs in a superconductor. The classical theory of superconductivity states that, below a specific critical temperature, electrons in a metal pair up to create bosons called Cooper pairs. These bosons form a phase-coherent condensate that can flow through a material without scattering – the result being superconductivity.

“Cooper Pairs vol.1” consists of three compositions: the first was recorded with Room V during numerous sessions in the pre-pandemic years in Moscow and its suburbs, the second was realized in collaboration with Fukte in 2019 in Crespano del Grappa after performing at “Noises From The Basement” in Belluno in the Dolomites, northern Italy, and the third recording was born as a result of a jam session with II:II during my last visit to St. Petersburg after performing at Sound Museum in January 2022, before leaving for Australia. All tracks combine a unique blend of genres. “Machine” is experimental techno and IDM, resulting from the combination of the sounds of analog modular and digital synthesizers. “Breakdown” is a mixture of noise from DIY electroacoustic instruments with experimental electronics, while “Collapse of Empire” is rhythmic noise and dark ambient with processed electric guitar.” –Theo Kovalev a.k.a. Wave Resistance

Wave Resistance is a project of Theo Kovalev (also releasing as Waldgrenze), an experimental electronic sound laboratory circa 2013 based under Moscow and currently in Australia. The project is focused on IDM, post-industrial, techno, rhythmic noise, dark ambient and experimental electronic genres. A philosophical journey to the reverse side of our world and consciousness through the language of the technogenic music. Besides on Mahorka, Wave Resistance has released albums on Abstrakt Reflections (Argentine), CRL Studios (USA), Eternal Turns (Russia), Noyade Records (Russia) and Null Sonics (Russia).

Room V, the project of Vadim Rumyantsev, formerly releasing under his name, represents a significant evolution in his stylistic exploration. While once confined to the exclusive realms of drone-ambient, Room V now ventures into uncharted musical territories. This evolution is marked by the seamless integration of dynamic rhythms and broader melodic lines, moving beyond the initial ambient confines. The project skilfully blends soundscapes influenced by Rumyantsev’s experiences in south-east Asia with emotive moods inherited from other corners of the world. In essence, Room V has transformed into a multi-dimensional sonic journey, capturing the artist’s willingness to experiment and explore beyond previous constraints.

Fukte is the main project of Fabrizio De Bon who is also the owner of the label Toxic Industries. The sound of the project is mostly Harsh Noise with HNW and industrial influences.

II.II is experimental electronic music project from Moscow, Russia, created in 2018 by Vorobiev Andrey, also known with the projects: ἐγρήγορος, Echo Сoma, p3o, Mesosphere, The Crawling Chaos, Ил, Cдоба, Magnetic TarTrap. The project name can be read as “11:11”. The music is performed on the analog modular synthesizer. It’s atmospheric and cinematographic, it slowly crawls into the frame like a black cloud of giant sprout and rolling everything around the not transparent darkness. Distant industrial bits and smooth bewitching drone, all as you love. Rumours are that his musical developments he leads secretly, in abandoned old factories, conducts mass on radioactive graves in Russian forests and he suits underground festivals in deep forests.

/allow yourself to be consumed/

“in the beginning of the summer i acquired a broken electric organ from the 70s. after renovating it i fell in love with it’s raw sound. it was alive and it had a story to tell.

later i got the chance to travel trough central europe. it was an almost non-stop journey. travelling at time more than 15+ hours a day. your body stops feeling the motion. the landscape became a moving decor. a peculiar soundtrack started to form from all the road noises, the static of the radio and the low chatter of the other passengers. time became irrelevant and abstract. my thoughts formed a stream, shifting from sleep and wake. detached form the outside world nothing truly existed.

when i got back home i wanted to experience this state again – this constant moving, this silence that was never really silent. a place outside of time.

the organ + some field recordings done on the go formed a huge mass sonically inspired by this trip but also by my search of a sanctuary.

омайна тишина, погълни ме! (bewitching silence, swallow me whole!) is an album dedicated to the need of nothingness and the passage of time. as anxiety saturates our everyday life we find ourselves struggling to find space. this album provided me with the space i needed and i hope it will do the same for you.”

Philippe Blache – Across the Silence and the Shade

Philippe Blache – Across the Silence and the Shade
[mhrk372]

Philippe Blache

“Across the Silence and the Shade”

With a sense of musical introspection, incantatory melodicism and cinematic dread Philippe Blache (from Day Before Us) goes back on the forefront with a highly thrilling melancholic drama for sonic driftscapes and devastating walls of power electronics tempered by organic ethereal vibes. Detached and evanescent melodies are battling against the obscured, unsettling, stormy and weary industrial atmosphere. Powerful internal narrations and incantatory voices at distance occasionally come into the mix. With its performative bitter anthems, its ritualistic then almost religious nature, the album invites the listener to be progressively mersed in a netwok of allusive images, investing pagan mythologies, poetical escapism and christian symbology. This is the second musical offspring signed under his own name after a prolific production under the moniker of “Day Before Us”, veteran project in sorrowful dark wave neoclassicism. «Across the silence and the shade» is an essential and mournful post-ambient journey which involves an emotional catharsis.

Released November 17, 2023 as free (cc) digital download and beautiful limited digipak CD edition.

Number Eleven

“Contradiction”

Failure of reality in the numbers of the system questions their purposes for the observer with its source of reality being the system itself. Due to quantization noise, logic fails at every single variable yet making sense, proving it is useless being the only usable unit of measurement. The system is stuck in a sequential feedback loop applying workarounds because of a major design flaw – capability of only a single answer that always ends the sequence in a contradiction.

Dissonant soundscapes of reverb manipulated into a confusing structure led by clinically digital pulses of noise.

“Reckoning (Creation)”

released November 2, 2023

sevensy (aka Austin Brooks) creates music that directly facilitates imaginal sojourns, wherein the message is the sound itself. sevensy mixes electronic and natural sounds with processed guitars and acoustic instruments and has released his music with Mahorka from the time of the label’s inception.

His musical themes ‘unfold into an unusual landscape’ so that it is often impossible to tell where one ends and another begins.

“Form emerges, as fragile as a snowdrop’s blossom, as solid as a mountain, then recedes and is transformed. Awareness witnesses the interplay of all things. “Reckoning (creation)” aims to musically depict this metamorphosis. Acoustic or treated electric guitar forms the basis of every piece, though this may not be evident upon first listening. Layers of synthesisers and bass are interwoven with fragments of melodies that coalesce and dissolve.”

LYNN NANDAR HTOO

“Jamadevi”

Jamadevi is a meditative composition consisting of 6 tracks produced by Myanmar sound designer, Lynn Nandar Htoo unmasking the brutality of the political event that happened in 2021 in Myanmar through her sentiments of sound designing & storytelling. Lynn Nandar Htoo’s EP explores minimalistic tones overlapping syncopated Myanmar traditional percussions that creates a hypnotic effect – slowly transitioning into dronelike territory synchronized by subtle noises & glitches. Fascinated with traditional tunings and compositions that resembles her Myanmar cultural traditions, Lynn Nandar Htoo integrates the rhythmic essence of Nat Pwel, a ritual that is led by a queer character into haunting ambience depicting the alienation that many has felt since the condemned political event. Jamadevi is an enigmatic piece of electronic music work that yearns to form dialogues of displacement between sound & the effects of politics through her intricate compositions.

Lynn Nandar Htoo is a sound designer, composer & music producer based in Yangon, Myanmar accomplished in both the realm of filmmaking & electronic music. She explores Southeast Asian tuning systems and scales through modern music technologies and was chosen to be part of South East Asia’s music research development by Nusasonic & »Listening to the World – 100 Years of Radio«, an initiative of Goethe Institute.

“genealogija C: 2019”

The final part of entropija live retrospective gathers together excerpts from three separate events and three home sessions.

What may be the most diverse package yet, “genealogija C” features glitches, fractured post-IDM beats, violent bursts of feedback, mutated radio transmissions, minimal synth loops, electroacoustic manipulations and electrifying hostile noise attacks, that all somehow flow organically into each other.

The album trespasses different genre territories by walking on the edge between cohesion and total break-down. This is entropija live experience at its most adventurous.

Roberto Massoni

“Floreas Unn Fauneth”

“lunetta”

Lunetta is a modular synthesizer built using mostly digital logic chips.

All of the Lunettas are unique and different, because they allow creative and irregular ways to patch them up, since they are mainly made out of CMOS chips and allow completely different ways of modulation compared to analog electronics.

Lunettas share their specific tonal character, which is a complex pulse modulation, rich in high frequency harmonics, making them sound alike. The differences come from individual design and the chosen chips resulting in sometimes quirky or unpredictable behaviour.

Lunetta’s nametag comes from Stanley Lunetta, who was a classical and experimental musician. He is thought to be the first one to bring cheap digital logic chips to the table for making electronic instruments usually used in avant-garde music.

This album is a compilation of home, studio and live performance recordings, with a home-made Lunetta synthesizer, sound effects and feedback loops.
