TNKS – Nostalgic Happiness
Three years after their debut album (‘Gate One’, released by Sucu Music as SCM-1405), TNKS come back with their second effort, ‘Nostalgic Happiness’. The music on offer here is a very good blend of electronics and melody, with a lot of space provided by soundscaping guitars and sequenced synthesizers.
Not a frontal attack to the listener’s synapses, but a tentacle-like embrace of their aural dimensions and souls.

Channel Surfing – Paradox In The Bathroom

Channel Surfing – Paradox In The Bathroom
[LBN039]

Channel Surfing

“Paradox In The Bathroom”

Channel Surfing – Paradox In The Bathroom
Channel Surfing is a quasi-vaporwave project. Meaning that it predates vaporwave, and was initially influenced by the glitch and idm scenes of the 90′s and early 2000′s. With Channel Surfing, the focus is on microhouse and shoegaze. On ‘Paradox In The Bathroom’. . . I took a detour, and focused on lyrics. This time, it was the political solitude of an uncertain future. The in-between moments, of both turmoil and tranquility in America. Sonically, ‘Paradox’ uses Sound Design as a songwriting tool. Drum machines were treated like synthesizers, field recordings were processed like guitars. It is a very environmental spin on the “rock formula”. Channel Surfing is the band from the Mojave Desert. The locus of Channel Surfing is “Ethereal Synthesis” in all it’s various forms. From album to album, the locus changes, falling together or falling apart, but the same ethereal techniques apply in different ways. Sometimes, outspoken and political, other times, quiet and interspective. Enjoy. . .

Number Eleven – Autism

Number Eleven

“Autism”

Number Eleven – Autism
Autism enters a cold, self-satisfactory state of no response to any attempt to contact, trying to believe there is no possibility for communication. The idea is progressing with a wrong assumption that mute doesn’t mean nonexistent, relying on Autistic thinking, assuming as if it is immune to an emotion. Realizing that it’s wrong leads to a colossal reaction, causing a worsening of the state of existing disorders to a complete malfunction of the whole thinking structure.

Structurally difficult and non-paced attacking rhythms, getting more complex and running from rules dictated by background structures, while those rules fading away, anxious melodies which are trying to compensate the constant urge to lose the control of composition.

“Maddest Sanity”

eww – Maddest Sanity
What happens when a human being spends his whole life in a cave without contact to the outer world and after going out the first thing he does is music? Something like this album happens. It’s mad because beats and melodies are mad – one moment they are drifting far away like a foggy dream, the next moment they are coming back and walk towards you on their massive wolfram pillars. But they’re sane because everything is well structured. Even the seemingly insane rhythmic structures of Innner Peece are quite simple at heart.

Isn’t it too simple? Made with a 10 year old software from basic 10 year old samples? Consider it like a fossil from times when the Matrix was still something new and sensational, and everyone was still listening to trance, not psytrance – the original trance. Like a can with a sample of air conserved with those moments.

Every track is a separate composition, every track has its own unique sound and mood, consider this album a compilation of 10 different stories. And even more – each of them has its own hand-drawn artwork which also is an anachronism in this computer graphic ruled world. Artworks are like impressions that pop into an abstract mind after listening to the sounds.

aAirial – Music for Sunny Days
aAirial, our resident minimal maestro, makes a welcome return to Kahvi with his spring inspired EP ‘Music for sunny days’. Seven tracks of gentle electronics and minimal sounds, describing that time between winter and spring when the sun gradually makes an appearance.

Subtle beats and delicate melodies echo throughout. Something gentle to ease us towards summer!

Blit

“Fauna ficcion”

Blit – Fauna ficcion
Blit – Fauna ficción

Blit is a well-known talented chilean producer who adds to the catalog of Modismo with a new proof of his versatility.
‘Repite’, track that opens the album, manages to outline the ground in which ‘Fauna Ficción’ moves, as a smoke screen we pass through to go all over a work where experimentation in electronic music is addressed with a ludic spirit.
This way, he is able to approach these compositions to a more restless instrumental pop, crossing over intricate keyboard sounds at dark low frecuencies that works as counterpoint. It is a careful production of the rhythmic patterns that sounds updated with contemporary urban rhythms and with a strong accent on hip-hop derivatives.
The centerpiece of this Blit’s new delivery are the three parts of ‘Exilio’, being the second one the moment in greater tune with the dancefloor. The album closes with ‘Morel’, a track that seems to recall Richard D. James’ legacy, though it ends up shaking the nostalgic off with a powerful rhythmic dose.
In less than 20 minutes ‘Fauna Ficción’ succeedes in introducing us into a world that catches us, captivating our ear with fresh sounds and keeping our feet in constant motion thanks to its playful beats. Seven tracks that only confirm Blit’s huge potential and the good times for the electronic music production that prevails in today’s Chile.

Deltahedron – Machine Learning
We all hear that machines and AI are going to surpass us soon, but for the time being they have a lot to learn from the meatbags still in control.

This bass heavy, experimental EP of techno-ish trap-like beats presents the process of machine learning in one particular specimen.

” The Heat “

Jim Black – The Heat
A warm welcome back to Jim Black, who seems to appear with a large selection of tracks a couple of times a year. If you’re not familiar with Jim, he manages to create the vibe of the classic early 90s techno/IDM roots perfectly, bringing back feelings of nostalgia to those who listened to Kiss FM (London) and DJs like Colin Favor.

This 10 track album takes us through a journey of powerful beats, addictive melodies and definitely warms us after the long cold winter. If you want some serious acid leads and basslines, you’ll find them here!

Thuoom – Fokus
The fifth Thuoom full-length, Fokus, is filled with rhythmic songs soaked in IDM influences, and at places the record is the most playful Thuoom has ever been. With these songs Tuomo used a more layered approach than before and more than half of the songs employ sine waves. Furthermore, there are three songs where the beat has been formed by manipulated beatboxing.

Instruments used on this record: acoustic guitar, beatbox, cutlery, garlic, garlic press, glitches, human voice, knives, plates, scissors, sine waves, sparkling water, water bottle.

Cialyn – Off Season
Cialyn first arrived to great acclaim at Kahvi on the Christmas 2016 Various Artists compilation ‘Fields’. And now he’s back with a five track EP continuing the same amazing sounds we heard previously.

That defined Boards of Canada sound, popular among electronic music fans who prefer subtle, mind expanding, nostalgia, taking you to past days and moods. Featuring heavily, with gentle analog warm leads, detailed and precise beats and sentimental melodies.

Tracks like the title track ‘Off Season’ (and accompanying video which is featured on our Facebook page) make for a fantastic EP. Enjoy!

Csum and Sacha Rush – Portable
Well-structured selection of rhythms, noises and melodies synthesized by the collective consciousness of two authors that were connected through the HTTP wires. Sampling is in their blood, whereas glitch for them is a well of wonderful inspiration. The final result of distant virtual interaction is a portable album of synthetic music of the third millennium.

“Fields”

Various – Fields
Here at Kahvi we’re exceptionally proud of our yearly compilation release – and here, finally, is the VA release for 2016! It’s been a mammoth undertaking, collecting tracks, compiling the release, mastering, creating the cover artwork but finally we can announce that “Fields’ is here!

This year, we have 40 of the best tracks from some familiar faces, along with many guest artists that submitted their tracks for inclusion. We’re especially proud to include a track from the legendary Richard Devine!

Some really amazing talent is out there with very little exposure, and the VA is our chance to redress the balance.

Fantastic cover artwork is created by our resident VA artist ‘Anto’ and mastering is by Mnemonic. Enjoy this years VA and Merry Christmas!

Tetarise – Playing in the Glow
Once again, as part of the Christmas releases for 2016, Tetarise makes a welcome return to Kahvi! It’s hard to believe that it was a year ago since the last Tetarise release, but he’s back with a five track EP entitled ‘Playing in the Glow’, which contains his usual flare for production and style (with perhaps a touch of Russian industrialism?)

As his previous releases, we’ve got epic and powerful beats, mixed with deep trance and ambient leads. Feel good tracks for the season!
