Every track is a livecoding semideterministic improvisation. Every improvisation is recorded on a function. Every function, when iterates, makes a different composition.
Abdul Moimême: two prepared guitars, objects Cyril Bondi: bass drum, objects d’incise:laptops, objects The helvetico-portugese trio, formely known as “diatribes & abdul moimême”, founded in 2009, abandons the ego in favor of a tight, homogeneous, construction, where human gestures and mechanical interchanged without distinction nor reasons. His music is dense and horizontal, more rustling than noisy, it is not an imaginary landscape but a materialized presence. The rubbed/breath, metallic rattles, resonances, meditative feedback, electrical crackling , micropulsation and repetitions, all this amalgams to form the Quexias song between post-industrial “saudade” , electroacoustic and reductionism.
Abdul Moimême: Fender Stratocaster and a self made solid body electric guitar, both amplified separately and prepared with small and large objects. In track #2, prepared Gibson Les Paul and a Rickenbacker lap guitar inside a grand piano. Musician from Lisbon, he elaborated during the previous years a specific set-up based on two prepared electric guitars and a bunch of objects as springs, metalic bars and plates, etc. He create a music full of mecanic and industrial images, straight out of his double instrument, without any other electronic devices.
Lone producer & DJ emerged from the mists of the Montseny massif, tireless walker, woods and riversides lover, Watcher of the Skies day or night… he and his two white dogs. Ecclectic tastes, non ortodox mixing techniques, found sounds and losts dialogs creating atmospheres, sonic adventures & cosmic journeys from hidden departments of his mind. Begins at 18 as a radio DJ in his village, founder member of a disappeared trip-hop group during 2000’s, sporadic DJ appearances on free parties private chill-outs. Ambient freaky, house lover, trance addict, minimal user, techno abuser, and so on.. in a thousand would be times in a thousand would be worlds.
Rho return to No-Source Netlabel with their first batch of new material since 2010’s album, ‘Cedarleaf.’ ‘Brace For Gravity’ is a brilliant, concise, and calculated release. It showcases the two distinct sides of Rho. One side is their quiet, ambient, acoustic side. Guitars tremble slowly through seas of effects in many of the shorter songs on this album. The other half of Rho is the sprawling, progressive, beat oriented instrumentals. In these pieces, rhythms, synths, and guitar work to take on an almost kraut rock nature. The title ‘Brace For Gravity’ suggests an epic release and these longer tracks definitely deliver. Brace yourself for Rho.
This album is more tan just samples over my stuff or a big mashup… It’s more an hommage to a certain kind of experimentalism that happened after WWII, a sort of re-interpretation of the psychedelic experience. We know who are the masters: The Doors, Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Stockhausen, Can and the German scence, even Aphex Twin… all were making true psychedelic music. I’m not talking about the new psy, even if I like some stuff (psychill mostly). It’s more towards rock music. But you can still dance on it. Some tracks are more suitable for home listening than others. I would say the first half is really made for home listening whereas the second part has a more Club appeal. Hope you’ll enjoy this one, maybe one of my best, put lots of effort into it. It’s made so that you have to listen to it from start to finish.
