Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

“Intracranial Tales”

hrtspltn – Intracranial Tales
htrspltn is the moniker of Siberian avant-garde producer Ivan Zhurovich, who first got in touch through the humble avenue of a demo submission to Planet Terror a few months back. htrspltn has had a number of releases on Macedonian label Filter, who accurately point out that the only rule that applies is “expect the unexpected”.

Despite its short running time, Intracranial Tales is an incredibly dense experience. Layer upon layer is built up to create a series of atmospheric electronica tracks with a very individual charm. Well worth a listen if you like your electronics downbeat and experimental.

Tardiss – Mold and Moisture

Tardiss – Mold and Moisture
[NS049]

Tardiss

“Mold and Moisture”

Mold and Moisture, the fourth release by Tardiss on No-Source Netlabel is a trip back in time. These nine tracks make up a collection of early works recorded between 2002 and 2004. What we see here is the beginnings of a sound that Tardiss has gone on to shape into their definitive style. It is a decidedly more electronic and experimental album than the previous Tardiss records. There are still those nostalgia tendencies that peak from time to time. The album kicks off with “The Sandbox”. Samples of waves wash into IDM beats and sparse melodies. “Mid Lake Left”, recalls the track title Left Side Drive by Boards of Canada. Mid Lake Left was recorded a year or two before the Boards of Canada track and delivers more of an early Squarepusher vibe. “Harmonic Mist Figure” is a beautiful two minutes of haunting, beat-less ambient music. “Smoothie’s Loop”, though a bit more spastic, uses some modern Tardiss compositional techniques. “Pneumonia, I Own Ya” has a more of a lounge vibe, recalling Irresistible Force (one of Mix Master Morris’ aliases). The album closes with “Come Get It”, a twelve minute electronic, lounge rock freakout. This description makes sense when you get to the epic synth solo at six minutes in. Over the years, these early works have held up. The lo-fi attitude just makes them feel even more like a musty photograph collecting mold and moisture.

THE WEB – monoton I

THE WEB – monoton II
[DAST EXTRA 01]

THE WEB

“monoton I”

THE WEB – monoton II
…IN 1994 WAS BORN THE SPIRIT OF “monoton”! ONLY 14 YEARS LATER FOLLOWED HER SOUL! AND NOW IT GETS THE BODY…, THE CREATOR “THE WEB” TELLS US ABOUT THE HISTORY, ORIGINS AND BACKGROUNDS, TO HIS GREAT WORK…

The “monoton” series were created between october 2008 and april 2009. All tracks follow the same principle: They are all basedon a central audio track with sounds from a famous vintage analogsynthesizer – the Korg MS-10. I extracted these sounds from a tapedating back to 1994/95.

THE WEB: “Once on a saturday in late summer 1994 there was one of these flea marketsin my home town Winterthur. I was in the pub when a colleague bustedin, came straight to me and excitedly asked me if I knewwhat a Korg MS-10 is and if I wanted to buy one – if yes I would haveto hurry because he found one at a stand of the flea market, for only300 bucks (Swiss Franks)! Although back then I was only DJing fromtime to time, but was not doing my own music, had no drum machinesand other equipment, I knew this was a golden opportunity I shouldn’tpass up – techno and house music had become popular and the pricesfor old analog synths nobody was interested in a few years ago hadrisen to astronomical levels. So I immediately went out to the standand bought this vintage device. Back home, I explored the sounds ofit in depth, also because I had no other instrument that competed forattention. I experimented with the patch cords and tried everyconnection. “Sick and industrial sounds and lots of dirt iswhat the MS can do at it’s best” (www.sequencer.de) – oh yes, that’s exactly what I like. Everytime I had found a sound that Iliked I recorded a few minutes of it on tape. Since I always wantedto do my own electronic music tracks but back then couldn’t affordthe equipment I decided to give the Korg MS-10 to my friend Sauri, former DJ from Winterthur (DJ Das Sausen) and drummer of the band”men from s.p.e.c.t.r.e” (superb instrumental music! -visit www.men-from-spectre.org).

Thankgod I had recorded this tape – finally, 14 years later I was able touse this stuff for my own electronic music tracks. After I made the Freeze!-seriesand a few inofficial remixes of oldies-but-goldies from the 80ies (REMIXED)I wanted to do something more “raw”, stripped down, classictechno, so this old Korg MS-10 tape was very wellcome. I used thesounds on it as a basis for the tracks (definig theme/mood, suitablebeat and speed), added one or two drummachines, an additional synth-or bassline or a few effects – and that was it. Since the Korg MS-10is monophonic I used the working title “monoton” for thisseries of tracks.

Thetracks on “monoton I” vary from oldschool technohouseacid-like style (monoton5 – doppelstern),wavy rocking breakbeat (waveroller)and even friendly downtempo (cleanup)to raw industrial machine beat (alientank). In monotonX there’sno drummachine, all the drum sounds came from Korg MS-10.

“monotonII” contains alternative versions of several tracks from”monoton I”; the tracks are renamed so that the original aswell as the new version are visible. alientank forexample grew to alientanks in the storm,a three part version with one tank in the beginning and another onereturning to the windy, empty battlefield (middle part) at the end. Apeculiar element in several tracks here is the different tempo of thebeat while keeping the original tempo of the Korg MS-10 sound track,in a ratio 4:3 (pulsatingsource of radio, little jumper, planet easy). In planeteasy sucha change in tempo occurs in the middle of the track, deviding it ina livingslow anda livingfast part.In the spacy quasi-stellarradio source, the effect of slowing down is reached by a 3/4 echo-effect anda differentbeat – the tempo remains the same as in the 4/4-trance-styleoriginal monoton6 – quasar.”

marina poleukhina – lp1
marina poleukhina is a composer and improviser based in moscow. her musical focus lies in composition and improvisation on various objects and the instability of sound; silence and silence as the sound; real life and real life as sound. amongst others she is inspired by ligeti, nono, feldman, waits, yoshihide, and hosseini.

her first album, simply titled lp1, is a collection of improvisations and compositions. it sounds kind of like: pulse flute flutter and trills. warble pops and muttering percussion. dropped cymbals. conversation in cries and rolls. natural space. quiet exploration of scraped vibrations. surface areas calculated. squeaks and hoarse voicings. thunder and roar, guttural friction and noise. everything at once. voice in the woods. quiet patience. strum rewards.

Thoughts – 600 Seconds

Thoughts – 600 Seconds

Thoughts

“600 Seconds”

Thoughts – 600 Seconds

Carefully sculpted sounds, wandering rhythms and experimentations pushing the boundaries of sonic sculpture and textural compositions yet still remaining remarkably accessible.

Thoughts is a collaborative sound project of Laetitia Schteinberg and Roberto Lazzarino.

Laetitia has produced solo work as Ars Sonor and side project iky iky. She is deeply involved in the sculpting of new sounds via modern vst technologies, from scratch or using different sound sources, and creation of “evolving” textures of either electronic or electroacoustic nature.

Roberto Lazzarino started playing a broken guitar in 1973 and lends his particular emotive and eclectic collection of various instrumentations to the evolving soundscapes of Thoughts.

“With each track comes a new state of being. Washes of ambient, neo-classic folk & ethno-funk break the shores of electronica by Thoughts – Laetitia Schteinberg (Ars Sonor) and Roberto Lazzarino. Instrumental organics woven with contemplative atmospheres taut with curiosity and electronic tension.” (Phil Ford)

“Codex”

Marta Zapparoli – Codex
I always draw my inspiration from the narratives and metaphors of a variety of impacts from different locations and situations.

These are often quite unique experiences within a certain period of time, landscape or corner of society.

Last year during several trips, I did many different recordings in East Europa. During my research on land, I found special places with particular energies. For example : unpredictable movements, defective technology, misplaced animals, dis-punctuality, unforeseen natural sound effects or other cataclysms of nature and unforeseen cataclysms in Humans.

The idea of this release is a deep construction, cut up, manipulation and deconstruction on many layer of these recordings, decontextualized from their origin, creating an absurd and surreal landscape in codex.

The technical part is done with field recordings on tape-recorders mixed, converted on digital software for mastering.

Marta Zapparoli aka Penelopex :
sound artist, performer, musician, studied fine arts and the soproano saxophone. In Bologna/Italy being involved in a series of experimental radio shows, multmedia performances, sound installations and various dance companies and aswell experimental multimedia theater events.

She now lives in Berlin where she is part of the Splitter Orchester Berlin, collaborating on sound installations with Martin Kuentz and a duo project with Alessandra Eramo next to her ongoing solo project.

The last decade she creates strong narrative sonic pieces using a open variety of recording techniques and custom analog tools as well as found instruments and objects.

Her sonic explorations bridging together the sensual quality of field recordings and versatile processing of live electronics. Within environmental phenomena, acoustic ecology, noise pollution, focusing on sonic narratives & human emotions through decomposition and real-time tape manipulation, sounds that are considered non-musical or overheard.

She Releasesd several albums on Umbrella Noise records, Idiosyncratics records, Nohmad records and Zeromoon records. She was also extensively featured WDR3 open studio elektronische musik, and a variety of experimental radio broadcasts.

Ars Sonor & Meklabor – At The Edge of Abyss
[ER066]

Ars Sonor & Meklabor

“At The Edge of Abyss”

Ars Sonor & Meklabor – At The Edge of Abyss
What did those poor men and women think when it dawned on them that the labyrinthine passageways they moved through were actually the domicile of the restless Minotaur. What did you think when you looked out that window and in your utopia saw the dark and dreary corridors of this selfsame doomed wandering. What miracle braught this magnificent expression to us. Here on Effluvia, we celebrate the second collaboration between Ars Sonor & Meklabor. These two were meant to collaborate. Both have the strong ability of making incredibly well put together and philosophically teeming work that is entertaining, thoughtful, mystical, and at the same time challenging and bizarre. The two both utilize whatever sounds compliment one another so that the album feels like one focused vision. The strings of this web are quite fine indeed, and free of pesky spiders, oh and replace the flies with the night sky. I won’t even try to express through my feeble words how these tracks can make you feel, so i’ll simply quote a poet I fancy, Jorge Luis Borges: “Now, after so many troubling years of wandering beneath the wavering moon, I ask myself what accident of fortune handed to me this terror of all mirrors”.
