about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Et Quid Amabo Nisi Quod Aenigma Est?

Die Elektrischen Vorspiele, a blog founded on January 15 2009, and whose sixth anniversary is commemorated with this release, was envisioned as a space for the nurturing of a “savage thought” (that is, of an undisciplined nature). In its essence, and as an individual project, it aims mostly to be a vehicle for its author’s vast-reaching interests, while at the same time harnessing them into some form of discipline. More than just a reflection on the fascination caused by the themes implicit to its lexical field of action, as shown by the coordinates and key concepts that define the boundaries of its territory, i.e. “Occultism” / “Esotericism”, this virtual space mainly maps some of the topologies enclosed in the History of Ideas. A vast and sometimes ignored area of Knowledge, whose apparently paradoxical character drives a magnetic pull towards the need to identify its true nature, as ubiquitously manifested along various historical cycles, in an unending drama staged in the theatre of the Anima Mundi. This is, in fact, the true raison d’être of Die Elektrischen Vorspiele.
As a direct result of its existence, November 2010 saw the publication of the book “Summa Techno(i)logicae”. This work, as implied by its title, is a thoroughly compiled and systematised patchwork reflecting the interests that guide its author’s research. From then on, periodic collaborations with other projects ensued, such as the magazines Finis Mundi, Infernus and Antibothis.
Still under the aegis of Die Elektrischen Vorspiele, and always through the establishment of complicities and connections, a number of events were created and carried out in the past six years. This set of actions (with Music as a constant common denominator) has had as its main goal the evocation of the life and work of various figures that have left behind crucial legacies. The people celebrated include the musician John Balance (Coil); the historian of religions Mircea Eliade; the poet and theatre director Antonin Artaud; the philosopher Georges Bataille; and the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima. It is also worth mentioning the series of events spanning along the year 2013, Occult Esoterica AV Gatherings, curated in collaboration with intermedia artist Ana Carvalho.
The proposal made to EdP – Editora do Porto (in the person of its administrator, João Ricardo) for the release of this compilation emerges as a consequence of shared common cosmologies which have gradually been transmuted into friendship, and also of João Ricardo’s encyclopaedic musical knowledge, while the invitations made to the artists taking part in it are the logical result of a chaining together of elective affinities (a process permanently taking place since the first Homeric dawn).

“CC Affiliates Mixtape #1”

various artists – CC Affiliates Mixtape #1
The global community of Creative Commons Affiliates is starting a new tradition: collectively compiling an annual mixtape of great music from artists using CC licenses. This idea follows the 10-year anniversary mixtape that the European Affiliates put together back in 2012, only this 2015-edition covers the entire globe. We hope that this will be the beginning of an annual tradition: a musical tribute to – and celebration of – the talent of the artists and Creative Commons sharing tools.

The mixtape has been made by the Creative Commons Affiliates – the custodians of the CC licenses in each of these countries – as a fun volunteer side-project to showcase the musical wealth of their countries. This means, and we’d like to highlight this, that these are not artists officially endorsed by Creative Commons, but rather personal favorites of some of those community members advocating sharing culture and promoting the use of CC licenses.

Across the world millions of creators are using Creative Commons licenses to promote and spread their creativity and to find a global audience. Many of these are music artists, performers and songwriters and for this year’s tape a whopping 25 countries have contributed, covering 4 continents of amazing music cultures and artistic talents of all audio trades. Dive in to discover what the world has to offer while at the same time appreciating sharing culture. Enjoy!

I think I finally figured out the point of my own music: I want it to be like those tapes from the movie “V/H/S”, where you just find some random fucked-up tape and watch it and you’re just like “who made this? Where did it come from? How was this even made??!” Anyway, here is some music I made. Enjoy.

Ethernet Orchestra – Diaspora
“Diaspora” is the debut album from the Ethernet Orchestra, an Internet based music ensemble exploring intercultural tele-improvisation. It is a compilation of live freely improvised vignettes from performances recorded between 2009-2014. It features musicians from a diverse range of cultures and musical traditions performing simultaneously between Iran and Australia via North America, Canada, Brazil and Europe. Distance is embodied in the material quality of the works, which not only serves as testament to the technological achievement of such a project but also forms part of the grain of the medium itself.

During this period we also had the great fortune to collaborate with the late Richard Lainhart, who is featured on many of the recordings. Ethernet Orchestra would like to dedicate this album to Richard, whose passion and generosity touched us all and his music continues his presence in our lives.

The album also contains works from the “Distant Presences” trilogy of performances. These events included networked VJs Helen Varley Jamieson, Neil Jenkins, Graziano Milano and Michael Szpakowski mixing live cinematic visual collages in the audiovisual platform VisitorsStudio, which can be viewed from diasporasound.wordpress.com/vjmixes

Чокнутый Пропеллер – Миллиарды лет
«Миллиарды лет» is an experimental
album by the band «Чокнутый Пропеллер». It was recorded to celebrate band’s ninth anniversary.
You won’t find any tracks like «Люди против ментов» or «We Wanna Rock», however there are many love songs. Electric guitars were replaced by acoustic, punk rock was replaced by country or Americana. In fact that sounds more like a radio-friendly record, but it’s important to notice that not many bands in Russia are able to record such music in their native language.

June or July – Volumen 3
“Volume 3” discusses the inner revolution through the moments when our journey meets conflict, our own or someone else’s, individual or collective and the truth behind it. Numbers and observations meet again in this volume to review, discuss and debate.

The artwork, designed Solange Dalannais shows us a simple pencil drawing done in real time during a dance class. The incomplete capture of moving bodies suggests that fragile but deep part of our human condition that seeks liberation and self- transformation.

Plusplus – Psycho
“Psycho is the third and final installment in the ‘Evils trilogy’ from Adam Radmall aka Plusplus
consisting of eight new tracks that continue on a similar theme to the two previously acclaimed albums‘Evils’ (2010) and ‘Game Over’ (2012).Compared with the first two Plusplus albums, Psycho is more a collaboration with Bryan Styles (Plantman) and Rob Scillitoe contributing on drums and double bass respectively. Producer John Hannon also contributed significantly. The result is much more of an organic sound that reveals another side of the plusplus yet retains a similar mix of brooding atmospheres and circadian rhythms punctuated by playful folk melodies evident on previous work.”

JONAS KOCHER – GAUDENZ BADRUTT

“Cinema Rex”

JONAS KOCHER – GAUDENZ BADRUTT – Cinema Rex
Jonas Kocher: accordion
Gaudenz Badrutt: electronics

Having collaborated for many years now, Badrutt and Kocher play improvised music. Through this practice they explore the relation between the very electronic sounds of the accordion and the instrumental potential of the electronics.
There is no electronic processing of the accordion, more the opposite: the acoustic sounds tend to influence the machine, creating accidents and random behavior of the electronics.
Badrutt and Kocher also take care of the acoustic specificities of the spaces where they play, taking it as a fundamental element of the performance. Through this subtle tuning between the playing and the space, every sound performance becomes site specific.

The concert at Rex was the last of a small tour in the Balkan region. Hours of travelling around on bad roads with old albanian taxis and public buses, fastidious border crossings and concerts in very different venues: a quiet basement in Athens, an old industrial building in a no man’s land area in Tirana, a very small bar in the middle of a fancy bars area in Skopje and the beautiful old cinema REX in Belgrade.
Our music evolved quite a lot during the tour, the context as well as all the people we met and the places we stayed, having definitely an influence on our playing. This recording aims to document our practice in a specific context at a specific time. No concept before playing, no edits or re-composing after. It is just what it is, improvised music.

“Augmented Landscapes”

Augmented Landscapes is a collaborative work melding acoustic and electronic sound elements with field recordings.

The acoustic element is provided by double bass and prepared double bass, played along a continuum of conventional and extended techniques. The electronic element, which consists in the granular synthesis of acoustic double bass performances, broadens the instrument’s sound palette to encompass varied and unconventional colorations.

When these elements are matched to the overheard sounds captured by these field recordings, a perspective emerges that is analogous to a hypothetical landscape augmented by a multiplication of dimensions both sonic and spatial. Points of reference shift as aural features constantly rearrange themselves in relation to each other, creating a series of gestalts in which figure and field alternate, blend and separate in varying combinations. Here familiar sounds mutate into something unfamiliar before becoming familiar once again.

Daniel Barbiero: double bass, prepared double bass, and granular synthesizer
