Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. Castro & Margherit

“Efimero Perpetuo”

When preparing a record, collaboration often presents unexpected signals for people who decide to do something together. These can be extremely varied signals, ranging from a sign of our society’s predominantly authoritarian leaning, to the expression of alternative ways for meeting and getting in touch reassured by practice.

This album by Jorge Castro and Nico Margherit discovers two people coming together because of their friendship – a personal, affective bond, which mutates throughout this work, realizing their mutual admiration in the process.

Intuition prevails in this album soundwork, following affinity and taste, but far from a free improv album. While this is present at the beginning – and the material they recorded is huge, enough for a ten-record-box set – the result is not a faithful delivery of it, but the starting point for a true immersion on it, generating new recordings to rescue some ideas that gradually appear as islands in this sea of early intuition.

What are those islands made of? Jorge Castro’s subtle rhythm work on the elements arising from Nico Margherit’s tonal and compositional ideas. Between tracks, like under the islands, there is still drifting, because there is time, listening and sensitive experiences about the world it embraces.

The album was recorded before the pandemic, during successive meetings at La Cúpula studio, in the heart of Mercado Norte in Córdoba, Argentina. But editing and mixing were carried out during months of strictest quarantine that area went through. That may be the reason why Track No. 6, the one closing the album, is the most noisy of all, remarkably evoking the mind-blowing silence experienced then, now stepping aside and welcoming the rumor and buzz those who’ve been through a lot of silence long for.

Richey Hackett – You Are Nothing But Light

Richey Hackett

“You Are Nothing But Light”

Many rewarding textures, twists, and turns are to be found in Richey Hackett’s ‘You Are Nothing But Light’. Charting new, dark ambient territory, each of these eight tracks are compelling both on their own and taken together as a whole; stand-outs include “True Dreams of False Awakenings”, run-through with a mysterious, quirky energy, and the creeping, nervous buzz of “Rotating On The Toothed Wheel”.

Words from the artist:

“No vocals. No traditional song structures. Just music and noise for the listener to use as a soundtrack for their imagination. A collection of moods, tones and atmospheres to daydream to.”

rar – a Walk in the 0-grad
[ACP 1289]

f:rar

“a Walk in the 0-grad”

“a Walk in the 0-grad” is the first solo album of “f:rar”, half of the duo FezayaFirar (attenuation circuit). It is an imaginary soundscape designed for the impossible city “0-grad” using location recordings and modular synthesisers. 0-grad is a post-apocalyptic industrial city surrounded by walls without gates or windows, which has witnessed rise and fall of contradicting ideologies of modern times. This album suggests a walking route within the walls in the psychedelic gardens, abandoned power plant, train station etc. It is based on a true story in the anthropocene age.

Barbiero/Bocci – Now/here

Barbiero/Bocci – Now/here
[AT057]

Barbiero/Bocci

“Now/here”

Now, Here: the most basic points of reference by which we locate ourselves in time and place at any given moment. And yet they are constantly moving, changing. Now is the vanishing point of the present continuously slipping into Then and reaching out to Not-yet; Here just as quickly becomes There. Now and Here turn out to inhabit the abyss of Nowhere in a paradox of reciprocity–much like Heraclitus’ road up being the same as the road down: One is nowhere and now here, at the same time.
The essential elusiveness of Now and Here inspired the music on Now/Here. The ephemerality of sound simply transposes the ephemerality of our being Here and Now into a more literal, more compressed (and more easily observed) key. Sound arises from silence and is now/here; it reverts back into silence and is nowhere. In an endless cycle.

All pieces jointly composed by Barbiero and Bocci. “Paths (A Winter Day in a Seaside Town)” is an open-form score by Bocci; “Ten Lines for Now/Where” is a graphic score by Barbiero.

Cristiano Bocci: electronics, electric bass

Dark Design – Caipora EP

Dark Design – Caipora EP

Dark Design

“Caipora EP”

Dark Design unleashes this forest-dwelling EP, Caipora, into the wild. Also hailing from Melbourne (AUS), Unknown Concept and Jedidiah feed us two outstanding remixes. The original track is cinematic in sound design, contained by spacious textures and trails along with warm analog synths. In contrast to the electronic sounds, there’s a natural balance with world percussion and organic foley. Both remixes lend creative ingenuity to the EP. Unknown Concept brings the heat with his driving, big room prog techno and Jedidiah lays down utterly cerebral psychedelia. This EP is for those lost in the jungle and is the vines between psychedelic techno, progressive and deep house.

rADio eNd – Genesis Launch
[LCNLP114]

rADio eNd

“Genesis Launch”

The necrophile hummingbird present the allowed fruit of a process called rADio eNd.

About the surface of the album :
A rather surprising album that begins with a spoken word cut-up on a fat downtempo beat cut with an ax. Did I say Industrial Triphop ? It’s probably unvoluntary but we can feel influences like Lydia Lunch, Annie Anxiety, Jarboe and The Lemon Kittens amongst many other. But then the music branches off into unknown territory with well-lit french lyrics and music that looks like nothing known. It’s … foreign music. Did I say Outsider music ? You may agree with me that a passport for somewhere outside is pretty welcome when you’re confined.
About the depths of this album :
If you’ve got a fruit in your hand, shall you bite it to taste it ?
The only certainty is that you’d better not forget to sow the seeds.
Did I say Do-It-YoursElf Spirituality ?

“Na Selva”

We’r proud to present our newest release, the EP Na Selva, by our dear friend Guaraci.

Pedro Guedes aka Guaraci, is a cosmic traveller that sails between the lines of space and time.

Reclaiming and mixing cultural elements from our history, he tries to stimulate feelings that connect our subjective being with the “illusion” of created realities.

Using different approaches like shapes, colors and symbols, Guaraci induces reflections about life, symbology and archetypes.

In this life he was born in São Paulo, and has 23 solar cycles of existence in planet earth.

Nohumano

“001”

“001”, an electronic music venture from Santiago-based artist, dj, and producer Danae Santana aka Nohumano, an innovative creation of the dissident underground that proposes a construction of rhythmic sonorities based on sensibilities, sentiments and abstract experiences.

Nohumano (Nohuman) is feeling through music, detaching us from the physical body that was given to us to be present in this dimension.

Letting go of that present, letting go of that body and knowing that we are all that exists, all that can be felt.

Nohumano launches her first electronic production with an 8-track album and two remixes, intuitive sound influenced by dancefloor rhythms and techno sonic sensibilities, produced in conjunction with Simone Corbalán [Caustics].

Bon-Psy

“Ikigai”

British producer Bon-Psy is back again with another grandiose production off the back of ‘Onyx’.

‘Ikigai’ (the Japanese concept related to finding one’s purpose), is a leap into uncharted territory in the Experimental Electronic scene, and once again an artist defining piece nailing down the staples of the Bon-Psy sound.

A sprawling exploration of the depths of Electronica, ‘Ikigai’ is mosaic in nature, presenting a driving groove, majestic vocal lines and goose bump inducing progressions that are nothing short of a spectacle.

With this new single, the young artist takes strides into discovering his capabilities as a musician, but also, identifying his purpose as a human being.

ESDLCP – Historial de Caidas Remastered

ESDLCP – Historial de Caidas Remastered
[pn171]

ESDLCP

“Historial de Caidas Remastered”

A series of misapprehensions tie me up to this record. The first time I read about José Manuel Cerda, I thought that a homonymous colleague, expert in Middle Ages History, had decided to unveil an unknown musical side. After downloading Doble ola EP, I thought this was his first album, strongly recommended by Richi Tunacola (“one of my Desert Island Discs”). That was the work I wholeheartedly agreed to review (“I love it”, I doubtlessly replied) and that, when I started listening to it, I wasn’t able to recognize it at all. I headed towards my 30-year-old list of cassettes and compact discs to confirm this was the first time I listened to Historial de caídas, indeed.

I’m aware of this unforgivable confusion in an era we are able to check almost every data on the music we listen to, unlike the 80s, when most of the times we thought the name of a band to be the name of a solo artist or an album, or that Rick Astley’s voice belonged to an unmistakably African-American singer instead of a pale, red-headed fellow. But these interferences and entanglements may also belong to a time when, in a couple of minutes, we are able to download a catalog it would have taken years to complete otherwise, a time when we listen to such an amount of songs it is almost impossible for us to learn their lyrics by heart.

I’m starting to think it’s a mistake to mention all of this, for I suppose José Manuel Cerda is much younger than I am. Wrong again: we are the same age. Maybe this is not a mistake. Maybe the beauty of a collection called Historial de caídas (Tumbling Records) is, precisely, the vindication of error, diversion, and failure, trying to find a room and meaning for all of them. And this is the very gesture reinforced by this new release: at a time when the whole world around seems to collapse, not just our little lives, the traces of light these compositions offer resonate in a paradoxically hopeful manner.

This is also a self-reflective memory exercise of an album that turns out to be ten years old, but also the samples’ contained coming from long ago. I ask José Manuel, (although I’m not sure to call him by his real name, or El sueño de la casa propia, or Bruxista), about some of the audio references. He mentions Michael Jackson, The Flaming Lips, Nelly Furtado, David Bowie, Shellac, among other FLAC files inside a folder: “they were not just favorites, there were also rarities or mainstream pop records, raw material for extracting meaningful loops to construct a sonic building around, according to what they suggested”. These buildings, by the way, resemble Neto Iturrieta’s collage structure used as a cover for the first release, their elements flexibly and precariously combined, like an ephemeral piece of architecture.

If I’ve listened to Historial de caídas in 2010, I may have indulged in comparisons with other cratedigging/cut ‘n’ paste masters, such as The Books, but now I pay much more attention to some of the tracks tribal power, rhythms almost flirting with our very own cueca. I think the “latinamerican” label sounds kinda cliché, but it may properly apply here. I’m still listening to it on a cold, silent morning, through a spring afternoon, interrupted from time to time by a neighbor’s drill. Maybe that drill could be sampled. This makes me think about what would happen if we heard it coming through this record. And I listen to it once again, till becoming one of my Desert Island Discs.

Brainquake – The Ongoing Sequence Of Events

Brainquake – The Ongoing Sequence Of Events
[mhrk257]

Brainquake

“The Ongoing Sequence Of Events”

“Tick tock tick. Time trickles away softly and time flows off hard, steadfast as ever. Time travel might make you dream off but you cannot stop time or turn back, even if that is your dearest wish. The hourglass is running, at that steady pass, water is flowing, an ongoing stream, and everything we do or did is in the past. Time is ticking and will not stop, not for anyone, not ever …”

Unlike on his debut EP on Mahorka – a trip through abstract territories, blending dissonants and rough waves of emotion rumbling, here on this 9 track album Brainquake explores common songstructures and sounds. Overtones, dissonants and layers still provide that emotional layer but with a softness uncommon for his works. There is even some optimism in the sound palette and melodies? In sound it kind of reminds of those great 90’s electronica/ambient/idm albums we all grew up with but adding that minimal touch and rhythms and some more contemporary production. As a whole this album evolves presenting a changing approach to a constant, common sequence. Variations on a theme but quite diverse. All tracks are at 110 beats per minute and as the ongoing sequence flows on, it showcases the different interplay of underlays and thrifty build up.

As most albums this one is best listened to in full but that doesn’t minimalize the vigour of the compositions by themselves. Take your time and use the strength of repetition. Sleep, snooze, listen, dance to it, it’s ambient, idm, experimental, leftfield, pop and endzeit emotronica as much as it is not.
