Following his eclectic opus ‘A Space For Your Dreams’ (released earlier this year on Vulpiano), Richey Hackett continues on his parallel path as an electronic composer with ‘The Nightmarist’. Richey takes ideas and delves into them, skillfully weaving atmospheres throughout his kaleidoscopic chords: bitcrushed echoes, fizzing electrical signals, distorted percussion, and ambiguous vocal samples.
Themes pervade: of digital consciousness as a spirit that haunts, disturbs, and blesses our synaptic essence, of a parallel plain that melds with an ancient and bone-deep wilderness expressed in our occult – a sort of ‘Life In The Bush of Ghosts’.
This is not to pigeonhole it as merely a dark-cyberpunk-ambient album; there is too much sweetness and pathos. The tones deployed are often sweeping and celestial, with everything from a subliminally disquieting music box waltz to anxious techno; and at various times recalling Vangelis, Burial, and Trent Reznor’s solo work. Yet another display of range and sophistication from Richey Hackett.

“I really enjoyed the challenge of trying my hand at something new with You Are Nothing But Light. So making a second collection of dark ambient music felt only natural and this time I’ve tried to make the pieces even more expressive and cinematic.
I’ve always enjoyed ambient music and how much freedom it gives the listener; I may have composed a track with certain images and emotions in mind, but without lyrics to define those things you leave it much more open to interpretation. And I really like the idea of the listener being able to create their own scenes in their minds using your music as the soundtrack.”

This whole new worldwide situation got us thinking in what direction should we go next…and if we should at all. We still haven’t really figured that out, but since we had our 12th anniversary this summer, we’ve decided to gather few tracks from our friends (who you may already know from their past appearances on the label) and offer them as a reminder that we are still here.

LES (LunarEscapeSystem) is an Israeli electronic music duo based in Tel Aviv, formed by Elena P. and Genrietta P., an ambient/soundscape/techno project that began collaborating six years ago and ever since has had numerous live A/V performances.
The duo say they get their inspiration from the avant-garde electronic scene of western europe in the beginning of the 90s, the early electronics movement from the 60s, BBC radiophonic workshop recordings, Sci-Fi movies soundtracks. They have developed their own sonic language, inspired by the natural sound of the elements, modern urban chaos, space phenomena, and silence. Through the years, the duo grew as electronic music producers and sought to venture into new territories by collaborating with different artists, creating multidisciplinary co-operations that intend to combine art mediums. These co-operations push and expand the boundaries of the artists themselves, their listeners, and spectators. Working outside of accepted artistic paradigms, LES believes in the art’s potential as a hybrid set of actions. Both Genrietta and Elena’s core activities were initially set in the visual arts, and the sound experiences created by the project are intertwined with the visual. LES strives to suggest new potentials that are multi-sensual via the universal language of sound.
The Mahorka debut of LES, their album “Anisotropic Collapse” is an exploration of glitchy ambient techno soundscapes inspired by Stephen Hawking’s book “A Brief History of Time” and space phenomena, released as free (cc) digital download and amazingly beautiful limited digipak CD. “Anisotropic Collapse” was recorded using analogue and modular synths and an “anti-radio” instrument that captures electromagnetic fields. Los viajes sonoros que construye Jack Plug no dejan de sorprender. Envueltos en una atmósfera rítmica que nunca pierde su continuidad y con una sonoridad que es deudora de los pequeños sonidos -el ritmo de oleaje que otorgan los sintetizadores y un beat que aparece en los momentos justos-, el EP se construye sobre los cimientos de la electrónica que inspiran al músico nacido en Viña del Mar. Cada tema es una pequeña historia, distinta en sus detalles, pero unificada al concepto global del EP, algo que adquiere particular sentido con Otoño Deja Vu, el track que cierra Jack Encapsulado como pieza final y elocuente de un sonido que parece evocar distintas épocas.

The resounding trips that are built by Jack Plug do not cease to amaze. Surrounding by a rhythmic atmosphere that never loses continuity and with a certain kind of tone that owns tiny sounds -the rhythm of the waves that are provided by synths and a beat that appears just at the right time- This EP is built over foundations of the electronic that inspires this musician born in Viña del Mar. Each track is a small story, different from one another in their details, but very attached to the global concept of the EP; something that acquires a unique meaning in Otoño Deja Vu, the track that closes up Jack Encapsulado as a final and articulate piece of a sound that seems to evoke a different era.

For the release of our first Queensland-based artist, we are stoked for CVU008 to have come from a connoisseur of all things electronic, and burgeoning producer, dj, and programmer: 88756.
88756’s multidisciplinary, focused approach to music and art has seen a torrent of releases since 2019, almost always accompanied by imagery generated through an automated video generator that was written in python. Concurrently, this approach has honed a certain sonic precision that is ever present in these tracks; everything from oldschool electro to modern polyrhythmic madness.
On remix duties – Olympic Pool Maintenance League, another one to watch in Brisbane – takes us through a mind-altering remix of Self, one that churns and wavers through a broken soundscape.
As always CVU008 is free to download straight from Soundcloud. All Australian music, all the time. We’ll also have some videos generated by 88756 and their python script coming soon.

Mountain Day is a traditional celebration day in Japan.
This year, in 2021, it will be held on August 8 for sporty reasons.
The number “808” reminds us of the ROLAND TR-808, of course. It’s the famous drum machine that gave birth to a lot of techno and electro music.
However, it must be said that the overly electronic sound of the TR-808 has been unfairly traded in the decades of history since its birth by the music called Gorge.
The stage is set.
2021, 808, Mountain Day.
On this day, the question “Is it possible to have TR-808 x Mountain x Gorges? The bootists gathered to answer this question.
From Japan, the king of heavy slow music “SLAB,” Drastik Adhesive Force.
TEACHI, a proponent of the ” Island Gorge,” lives in Okinawa and is scheduled to release a full album on GORGE.
IN, and Gorge evangelist hanali, who moved to a remote area of Fukuoka two years ago and whose survival is now in doubt.
Then there’s KΣITO, a DJ and track maker who is leading the Japanese GQOM scene, who hosts the Tokyo-based GQOM party TYO GQOM and is active in the DJ unit GQOMZILLA.
And there are some from abroad who will join this experiment.

What will the chemical reaction of TR-808, mountains, and Gorges produce, or not?

El talento local llega con Magdalena y Archaic Revival, dos artistas locales con una respetada y admirada trayectoria por su sonidos futurista de Techno y experimentación por los sonidos densos, con una escencia que va creando atmósferas oscuras y siniestras. Mucha experiencia y dedicación se evidencia en estos dos remixes, demostrando toda la personalidad con una afinidad de ritmos vanguardistas, que marcan el talento exclusivo que posee Magdalena y Archaic Revival.
Por último tenemos el remix de Eviru Dibad, amigo de esta casa radicado en Estados Unidos y que lleva su propio sello Backdoor Records. Dsum nos lleva por su alias más experimental donde su maestría musical nos propone un sonido más ácido, vibrante, moderno y pistero para deleitar a todo el mundo con mucha clase.
Un disco muy bonito de Callejas destinado a mentes abiertas hacia un viaje sideral, que evita caer en cualquier clase de convencionalidad, para mantenerse fiel a la vertiente más ensoñadora y evocadora del sonido que nació hace casi 40 años en Detroit. Larga vida al Dub Techno.!
