about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

“Mensajes de Voz”

“Mensajes de Voz” (Voice messages) is Epifonías’ first album and it is an experimental proposal that focuses its search on the construction of a sound narrative that explores the joints in the affective relationship between two individuals crossed by listening, visuality and queerness, and additionally it is a blow of intimacy in thereceiver’s listening.

From an exploration that integrates sounds from various sources such as soundscape, synthesizers, digital samples…and properly voice messages from personal files, the duet formed by Arsan and Sisiphonus creates a sound space that fluctuates between vocal dismantlings that opt for the expression of babbling, going through clear dialogues in which the intimacy of these two voices are unfolding, twisting or mutating as the album progresses.

The multiplicity of resources that Epifonías uses to create its tracks makes this album a sort of journey through human relationships, permeated by the inherent veil of digitality and sound experimentation.

“Mensajes de Voz” presents a disjointed version of discursive variants around the construction of a shared intimacy, creating extreme atmospheres that transit from one track to another: moments of dense and dark resonance that can recreate from a night walk through a solitary park to tracks composed with subtle, low sounds that create more luminous vibrant landscapes.

We are facing a sound journey through the rooms of intimacy in which relationships, affections, circumstances, suspicions, curiosities, are built, a journey which questions and reflects on the ways in which a sound can be perceived from two entities that share something more than the fleeting nature of enjoyment.

This is a sound story of affections.

Messian Dread – Maranatha (dub and discomix)

Messian Dread – Maranatha (dub and discomix)
[DPH050]

Messian Dread

“Maranatha (dub and discomix)”

MESSIAN DREAD – MARANATHA (DUB AND DISCOMIX)
CAT. NR: DPH050 // GENRE: ROOTS REGGAE / DUB

Introducing Messian Dread, a versatile personality from the Netherlands: Producer, singer, player of instruments, writer, reviewer, selector, and editor/webmaster of DUBROOM.org, perhaps the longest running platform/netlabel, that promotes Dub Reggae and Consciousness” since 1997, where many artists have contributed to throughout the decades.

Somewhere in 1979-1980 Messian Dread discovered Reggae and especially the Dub variety. He was around 15 at that time and everything was quite different. The music and the sound was new, back then. You had Madd Professor dubbing everyone crazy, the Scientist was introduced in the now legendary Greensleeves series. It was also the time of the extended versions aka Discomixes.

Early 1987, Messian Dread started a band and also began to experiment with dub, his great musical love. In 1997, ten years after he started to make music, Messian Dread started to publish his music world-wide through the Internet. Nowadays this seems a very normal and typical way to promote music, but back in those days with no Facebook or Soundcloud, it was not. In fact, it was frowned upon. Messian Dread can therefore be considered a pioneer in what has become normal now: independent artists producing their Dub & Reggae music online, from their heart to the heart of the listener.

His music has been played worldwide, throughout the decades. Next to his own Dubroom Label, the first chapter in the “Roots of Dub Funk” series had a quite successful track called “Jah Glory”, an album called “Showcase” was released through Star Recordings and the “Dub Buds” (Phoenix Records) compilation had a track called “Transgenics Dub. Until today one of the hardest Steppa compilations ever released. or at least an online cult classic.

The music of Messian Dread is Roots Reggae. Even though he produces his music in a digital way, you’ll hear his own roots are in the 1980’s. Roots Reggae in the orthodox way, with conscious lyrics that often leave no question mark but definitely food for thought … and dub! It is very hard to find a vocal tune from Messian Dread and no Dub version that comes with it. In fact, one could say that Messian Dread is keeping the tradition of the ‘Discomixes’ where you’ll get a vocal track and Dub version in one long mix alive. His obsession with long mixes comes from the 1980’s you remember them too, the 12” versions, and he has always loved the extended versions in Reggae and also in the electronic music.

Maranatha was originally released in 2007 as a free download and we are proud to present you a (F)re(e)-issue of the track as an introduction to Messian Dread’s works and as an appetizer for the releases to follow. Tune starts with Dub and militant vibe and ends with the vocals. The track was definitely inspired by the so called riots which are really uprisings that were going on in 2006. Even more today.

Roots Reggae sounds best when it is mixed in the good way. The best way to mix Roots Reggae is in Dubwise style. Messian Dread’s music is pure conscious Roots Reggae, mixed with the purpose of feeling the vibe always in a deeper and deeper way the more you listen. Music to listen to. To experience.

Culture Horn & Gun Power – Feel It

Culture Horn & Gun Power – Feel It
[DPH047]

Culture Horn & Gun Power

“Feel It”

Gun Power is a music band from Moscow. Nevertheless, the band was born in Thailand in 2017 by travelling musicians, who were playing in reggae bars all around Koh Samui and Koh Phangan islands. After returning to Russia, they decided to keep groovin’ together and that’s how Gun Power was founded.

In 2019 Gun Power started working with Culture Horn Sound System, recording compositions that the CHSS team worked on. Later the same year, the band started to experiment with the sound, making improvisational concerts, playing over with jazz, dub, funk, instrumental “chillrave.” In 2020, as a result of the pandemic times, the band was reshaped. But despite these changes, Gun Power is still working on events and a studio album.

This release is the result of their collaboration with Culture Horn Sound System and includes two songs and two dubs, following the format of all the releases of culture horn. The first tune is a rework of the classic anthem of Althea and Donna in a discomix style, while the title track Feel It is their first song ever released, written in a lovers rock style. Both tracks are accompanied by the obligatory dub mixes

Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP

Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP
[pn165]

Poetas Marcianos

“AFRODYZIACO EP”

Pandemic and all, Poetas Marcianos have been working quietly, persistently, and with great conviction from a few years ago, present an advance of their second album, “Afrodyziaco”. Containing six out of thirteen tracks, they provide a glimpse of an elaborated, disciplined endeavor. Their framework, already presented in their first album, released in 2015, consists mostly in three-to-four -minutes-long tracks arranged like little intelligent-techno-pop goldsmiths. Music for trance, dancing in the midst of an electronic drunkenness, or for attentive listening, since this framework is filled with sonic and compositional details.

Words are by Poeta Morgue and Poeta Oz, except “Respiro Azul”, by Sandriuska Theremin; music is generally by Morgue; arrangements are by the group, carrying a predominant quasi psychedelic sonic quality around them, fitting very well in the communicative atmosphere these artists aim at. Creative and intelligent sound inserts closing some tracks are real highlights, such as “El Diario de Tesla” (Tesla Journal), a beautiful retrospective of an individual’s cosmic vicissitude turning into an anti military claim; or “Respiro Azul” hypnotic trance, where Sandriuska’s vocals number, both in Mapudungun and Spanish, sensitive political mapuche claims, closing with a tribal voices and fifes invocation ritual. A highlight we are grateful for is that beats and rhythmic patterns are not programmed in a constant tempo: there are variations, moving from 4/4s to 7/8s, some of them easily danceable to or inviting a careful listening, for the theremin and other electronic devices outer space touch connects us to German 1970s prog, specifically Cluster and Harmonia. Thus, these tracks run away from the rhythmic and melodic monotony found in many Chilean electro pop artists productions.

Thus, the overtly political aims of these songs deconstruct cheap national cliché, such as the ironic Chilean cuisine praise (“Cazuela”), Chilean singer Rosita Serrano’ Nazi flirtings (“Transgénica”), or local pop culture tributes, like 1980s comic strip characters (Lautaro Parra’s “Blondi” or Marcela Trujillo’s graphic novels) becoming claims on sexual and gender discrimination or helpless, proletarian descamisadas masses. Words are skeptical, parodic, filled with an overt, bitter irony, revealing these poet/musicians literary background and their mastery of present-day oral and vocal poetry resources.

Suffice to say that that “Blondi” has also been taken to video clip format -available via YouTube-, in a 1920s German expressionist silent cinema aesthetic.

Poetas Marcianos music isn’t escapist at all, carrying a dramatic intensity, as a result of both vitality and social critique, not falling prey to many politicians’ grave mood, likely to present existential martyrdom as the only politically correct way. This band’s work presents true criticism, providing also room for humor in their ultramodern electronica and poetry mixture enchantment.

Since we’re really close friends with the band, I see no conflicts in reviewing their work. I try to keep a distance, but the eulogy fits here, for this album contains very good music and poetry. As simple as that.
