about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

update, February 1st, 2026

Dear friends and followers of clongclongmoo. It's great to have you here. As you may have noticed, the site has changed a bit. Some people wanted to be able to access the music with fewer clicks. That should work again now. Here's a quick note to everyone who uses relatively new platforms such as Mirlo, Faircamp, or Coop: feel free to use the submit form to draw attention to your new music. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who runs a netlabel with free Creative Commons music. Thank you! Konrad from clongclongmoo

In 1334 in the Hubei province started the Black Plague.
In 2019 in the Hubei province started the COVID -19 pandemic.

“Capitalism is the Virus” is not our idea, it comes from the street culture, and it’s so obvious these days that we were very happy to create a song with. While neo liberalists, or whatever the name we give to the believers of this system are isolating us. Solidarity come from the people and I hope tomorrow together we will save the world out of their dirty hands.

Ethernet Orchestra – Oceans between Sound

Ethernet Orchestra – Oceans between Sound

Ethernet Orchestra

“Oceans between Sound”

REVIEW / RESEÑA
Oceans between Sound is a selection of live improvisations by the internet based music ensemble, Ethernet Orchestra. The album was recorded during located venue performances and online sessions between 2014-2019, featuring musicians from a diverse range of cultures, performing across international time-zones and physical locations in Brazil, the USA, Canada, UK, Germany and Australia. The music was inspired by the ebb and flow of network data as a metaphor for the world’s oceans and waterways separating the members of the ensemble, and their geographically dispersed lives.

Oceans between Sound includes performances by internationally acclaimed improvisers such as guitarist Chris Vine, best known for his work with the British post punk band Blurt (Factory Records), and Elliott Sharp and Bob Boilen in the downtown music scenes of New York and Washington D.C. The ensemble founder, trumpeter Roger Mills, came to prominence during the 1990s with his work with the Bristol-based free jazz ensemble Space Ways and the trip-hop collective Statik Sound System (Cup of Tea Records). Performing on many of the tracks is the UK based free improviser Hervé Perez, acclaimed German pianist Holger Deuter, as well as world-renowned Moorin Khuur player and throat singer, Bukhchuluun Ganburged. The album also features a performance by the late Richard Lainhart, who worked and performed with John Cage, David Tudor, Steve Reich, Phill Niblock, David Berhman, and Rhys Chatham. His musical contributions to Seymareh ensure his presence continues to live on in our music.

A salient characteristic of the recordings on Oceans between Sound is how they reflect the materiality of the telematic performance medium. Musical sound travels through multiple networks, and is subject to a variety of operational conditions, latency, speeds, compression, and jitter. These phenomena imprint themselves on the sound as an aesthetic parameter within the music, rather like the crackle of an old vinyl album. These sonic qualities are also a testament to the incredible feat of musicians performing in real-time across distances of thousands of kilometres.

Secret Archives of the Vatican

“East Meets East”

Here in Europe, we often foolishly think of the east as inherently “other” or exotic. Even referring to “the east” implies we are somehow the centre or origin. East of where?

People are people, everywhere. We are interested in all the nations, all the musical traditions, all the histories. We like to explore a little of that with our music. Here, we look back at some ancient nations and cultures.

Shika Shika – Cosmofania (V.A.)

Shika Shika

“Cosmofania (V.A.)”

Hard to believe it has been four years since the birth of Shika Shika with the release of Barrio Lindo’s Kayak Break EP. Four years of being able to release music we love, artists that inspire us and the power of borderless, cultural cross-pollination.

Yet we have reached a crucial crossroads where it is time for the collective to evolve and grow. We want to embrace a vision that tries to find the sweet spot between music & activism, be it cultural and social empowerment or environmental awareness.

Cosmofania (inspired by Cosmogony – the study of the beginning of the universe) embraces this new beginning but also new artists and new sounds for ys. A deep, exciting anf refreshing new beginning!

With this compilation we are presenting a selection of new names we’d never heard of until our open call, old friends we somehow haven’t already worked with and amazing established names. It is a selection of beautiful, music by 13 talented musicians and producers from all over the world – Canada to Indonesia, Egypt to Argentina. They are tied together by an approach to electronic folk music, rich organic soundscapes and a sonic freshness

featuring : Kousk (Canada) , Rumbo Tumba (Argentina), Eat my Butterfly (Reunion Island) Del Ritmo Vivo (Argentina) Prabumi (Indonesia) Dina El Wedidi (Egypt) Mikado Koko (Japan) Raio (US) Shamanic Catharsis (Ecuador) La Dame (France) Akimbo (US) Arilu (Germany) Peter Power (Ireland)

Studio Bros

“Lendário”

Fábio Miguel “famifox” and Miguel Batista “nunex” in the artistic world known as “Studio BROS” two young guys living in the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon born and raised in Quinta do Mocho, from their teenage friendship they started to create and make music. From the start motivated in expressing their traditional African rhythm with electronic these two young producers started their journey back in 2007, following came their creation “Alto Nível Produções” an outcome from their hard work and creativity producing in their own bedrooms their passion for music pushed them to create various themes.

Their entrance on the record label Príncipe allowed them to gain experience and maturity, in their collective songs they participated in two compilations, the first one was for the Portuguese label Príncipe entitled “Mambos Levis D’Outro Mundo” and the second one was entitled “Carga” by the English record label Warp Records.

The duo has being recently reinforced with the recent project “Lendário” soon to be released in December 2018 this partnership with the label TAR, allowed the duo to expand their unique creation and authentic of the two young producers.

The two boys aim that with their themes and projects they are able to inspire young talents that are less fortunate and that don’t have much help, and be the living proof that music has no borders.

Doedelzak – ilypd

Doedelzak – ilypd
[Eg0_210]

Doedelzak

“ilypd”

A few months after the lovely P8 phase 3, our regular contributor Doedelzak comes back with another longform composition using an hybrid methodology and taking inspiration from various musical aesthetics. Ilpyd is subtle and catchy, hypnotic and surprising in the same time.

Notes by the artist
“Ilypd was created partially through algorithms, with a slow and alsmot imperceptible evolution. Though, there is a big change between the beginning and the end.
Although there are small internal changes, the evolution of the global structure is strictly continuous. The perception of changes (and notably the perception of acceleration) may appear intermittently as if on particular moments the listener’s mind was suddenly creating the image of a new step being crossed, but ilypd is perpetually changing.
Ilypd can be listened in one go, or on the contraty intermittently. It is not necessary to hear it from the beginning, nor until the end.
Inspiration for this work came from traditional African music, Gamelan, and Steve Reich. This is a musical material more than a composition – and I simply wanted to make this material beautiful”

Tintamare
