about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

“dystopia”

dystopia is the new release by nepsis.exe. It features lo-fi ambient music with substantial drone-esque synthesizers in the background.

This six tracks EP incorporates slowed and edited samples from many ambients and some spoken word from different sources.

It’s great music for studying or reading a book; try it on for a peaceful night in. Recommended for any fan of Boards of Canada who isn’t afraid to remove beats from the equation.

Sandriuska Theremin – Los Sonidos del Eter

Sandriuska Theremin – Los Sonidos del Eter
[pn183]

Sandriuska Theremin

“Los Sonidos del Eter”

On the occasion of the publication of her book “Los Sonidos del Éter” (“The Sounds of the Ether”), the artist Sandriuska Theremin releases a brief composition, just over four minutes long, paying sonic homage to this invention that originated electronic music and founded the alliance between music and sound throughout the 20th century.

A notable interpreter of the Theremin, Sandriuska offers us a small symphony of a gothic character, where a melodic phrase in a minor key produced by synthesizer glides progressively along with sonic oscillations from the Theremin, together capturing an atmosphere between the spectral and the dramatic, with ancestry and undulatory climates that evoke images of Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, with all the weight of its wars, confrontations, and the aesthetic urgencies of avant-garde art. This theme could have been the soundtrack of some German expressionist film, I am thinking specifically of “The Golem” by Paul Muni, or as a backdrop for the novels of the Austrian Gustav Meyrink, the last great European master of Gothic literature.

While Sandriuska offers a tribute to the Theremin that was already reflected in part through her book “Los Sonidos del Éter” (Marciano Ediciones, 2020), the novelty of this composition is that it does not create a historicist narrative or documentary demarcation: this work also alludes to the pop music movements that have used electronic instruments to support their styles, creations, and aesthetics since the 1960s. Hence, perhaps we are in the presence of a musical aftertaste from the early days of the German artists Tangerine Dream, or the dark pop of bands like England’s Bauhaus, or even smart techno groups like the English Cabaret Voltaire. In short, this homage dedicates its tribute to an era that began in 1920s and that continues on into the present century. Indeed, a hundred years after the appearance of the Theremin, this instrument still builds worlds and dimensions that liberate perception and lead us to a cosmic trance where magic, mind and body come together in a physical and spiritual communion that only music, and in this case electronic music, can create and provoke with its invocation of mystery.

A beautiful work by this artist who as a composer still has much more to offer.

Svayam – Tela

Svayam – Tela
[mi284]

Svayam

“Tela”

Why is perfection always in Major? Sharp echoes run into the tepid fragility of the bones. A staggering roam resumes its straight path and freezes it. Now it’s the heat’s curve that protects me and leaves me in the confort of what I know. The echoes become clear, the texture grows. It’s time to leave. In a sudden, everything returns.

The journey begins from time’s concrete decision. It’s where rests the peace and the martyrdom of the fields coloured with crimson red. An approach, severe and taken by force. Dimension and relief fall like drops of posterity and what comes after. There’s no path, there’s no destiny. Erratic satyric nerve. We’ve found ourselves again and now we accelerate.

The concentration-density of the concept of border. Chromatic suspension of waves, that hiss like small dynamic atmospheres. Textural insertion of notes in reverse osmosis and constant formations in tension.

That feeling of falling from the wake up dream where the rythmic variations lie: in the tunnel, we translate the flavor of a memory. Let it fall. A confirmation from the common sense dissipates all doubts, either ours or from the others. As we’re getting back to perfection, all completes itself. Quietly, we meet up separated.
The reality in reverse.

Erich Schall – Mechanische Fabel

[Wuerfel30]

Erich Schall

“Mechanische Fabel”

In the middle of the lockdown, in the everyday monotony, Erich Schall comes along and makes us happy quite casually, as if nothing were wrong, with a new album, the Mechanical Fable.

Quasi out of nothing – or, to introduce into the musical theme, quasi out of a misty, enchanted old magic forest. The forest that parents always warn their children about, but that only makes it more attractive.

It begins as a harmless excursion, a downtown cruise, aimlessly wandering. Where to, where only? Why not into the forest after all? Yes, why not?

Charles Rice Goff III – One Twenty Twenty One

Charles Rice Goff III – One Twenty Twenty One

Charles Rice Goff III

“One Twenty Twenty One”

One Twenty Twenty One is a single, continuous, audio suite featuring the following sections:

1 Taking Out The Wash
2 With Charity For All
3 Saint Madison Pray For Us
4 How Sweet
5 Rock Stars And Stripes Forever
6 For You And Me
7 The Flickering Beacon
8 We Stand For US
9 Imperfect Union

The Process:

On January 20th, 2021, C. Goff III interacted with the inauguration ceremony for American President Joseph R. Biden through a live electronic audio improvisation. As the ceremony aired through a portable radio in the Kansas City, Kansas, Taped Rugs studio, Goff reacted by creating an interpretive soundscape. This hour-long performance was taped on, and later mixed down from, a Tascam 424MKIII 4-Track Cassette Recorder.

Goff later edited out several portions of the hour-long improvisation, creating Sections 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 of “One Twenty Twenty One.” No effects nor overdubs were added to these edits.

Instrumentation:
Korg R3 Vocoder/Synthesizer, Korg Z1 Synthesizer, Micro Moog Analog Synthesizer, Billiard Man The Theremin, Voice, Ibanez DM 1000 Digital Delay, Boss RC 20X Loop Station Loop Duplicator

Several days after the inauguration ceremony, Goff reshaped brief edits from a recording of the ceremony’s radio broadcast to create Sections 2, 4, 6, and 8 of “One Twenty Twenty One.” Included in these sections are vocalizations from Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Garth Brooks, Amanda Gorman, and Leo J. O’Donovan III.

Computer Software:
Cool Edit Pro II, Audacity, Midisoft MIDI Scorewriter, Windows Media Player, Roxio 2011 Sound Recorder, Several Plug-In Audio Sound Effects

Goff mixed together the various edited sections to form the unified recording of “One Twenty Twenty One” on February 20th, 2021.

There is no officially authorized interpretation of this work.

Charles Rice Goff III & Michael LaGrega – Flexibly Insulated

Charles Rice Goff III & Michael LaGrega

“Flexibly Insulated”

The Process:

1) Isolated in their individual recording studios, each artist separately recorded several hours of improvised material.

2) From late January through early February, 2021, Goff performed a number of machinations to these recordings: splitting them apart, mixing pieces together, altering pitches, rhythms, timbres, tambors, etc. In some cases, MIDI and other computer programs were used to change the original recorded bits so dramatically that their antecedents became completely unrecognizable.

The Tools:

Goff:
Korg R3 Vocoder/Synthesizer, Korg Z1 Synthesizer, Billiard Man The Theremin, Five Below Modified Sound Generator, Boss RC 20X Loop Station Loop Duplicator, Cool Edit Pro II, Audacity, Midisoft MIDI Scorewriter, Windows Media Player, Roxio 2011 Sound Recorder, Several Plug-In Audio Sound Effects, Amazing MIDI Wave-To-MIDI, Polysoft MIDI to Mp3 Converter

LaGrega:
Korg 01R/W, Oberheim Xpander, Moog Matriarch, Alesis Andromeda, Kawai K5000W, Roland JD-800, Yamaha SY77, Arturia Emulator II VST, Omnisphere VST, E-MU PX-7 Command Station, Boss DR-880 Drum Machine, Martin OMC-18 Acoustic Guitar, Fourness Electric Violin

Torre di Fine – Torre di Fine

Torre di Fine – Torre di Fine

Torre di Fine

“Torre di Fine”

A romantic, doomed record with a cavernous internal world. It is powered by textures, composed of slowly-gathering layers, and deliberate in its contrasts as clean tones sing through the mist; at once melancholic and warmly soothing. Sombre guitar mantras pool around synths drenched in blue dusk, ushering these thoughts to their resting place.

“Sunflower” Official Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP9SJuUef2o

Words from the artist:

Torre di Fine is a two-piece band who focuses on alternative music with strong influences from shoegaze, post-rock, slowcore and glitch electronics. Born in 2020 after a late work shift, the entire album has been composed, rehearsed and recorded in a 450sq ft apartment in the midst of a decaying suburban area of north-east Italy.

Stripped-down arrangements, a strong focus on ambience and overall bad mood, this first output hits close to themes of isolation, uneasiness and alexithymia. Beside all these pompous words, Torre di Fine is a way to play music we like in the murkiest way possible.

João Reis – Passeio no Parque
[mi283]

João Reis

“Passeio no Parque”

If unconventional 2020 had a soundtrack, this album would be a perfect match. Passeio no Parque sounds like a lighthearted invitation made out of levity, but the 15 songs that the album entails, share the same exasperated sound that leaves little or no room for casual.

With an extremely visual hearing, it strikes all five senses. As the first note hits, we are engulfed by the feeling that we are standing on the precipice of something extraordinary. As if a cinematic filter was applied to our daily lives, adding a profound meaning to the most common situation.

Cheat Code: we recommend listening to it with your eyes closed and following – without hesitation – the tour to another dimension that insists on giving us.
