With this sampler, we present artists who have made Vulpiano across the span of 2021 and into early 2022. We find both continuity and renewal of the recurring themes solidified at our core over 12 years.
There are long-time pillars of the label: Richey Hackett’s tremendous growth branching into emotionally vital electronic compositions; the ever-versatile, 90s alternative-saturated introspections of King Elizabeth (furiously prolific since 2020 after a long absence since the early years of Vulpiano); the lush and transcendent playfulness of Brevyn’s synth work, with influences that distill how online music defies generational stereotyping.
And as ever newer artists arrived, like tributaries at the conflux of a river: a celestially noisy instrumental from Torre di Fine abstracts from the vast post-rock sound of his first Vulpiano release; immortal ebt returns triumphant with a new, crushingly hypnagogic sound after an 8-year absence; Lhas Fawn stirs a psychedelic whirlpool of aleatory ritual; Fabio Keiner’s meditative, microtonal opus adds to Vulpiano’s canon of masterful drone records; and Wood Ship’s subtly dissonant gaze at a winter horizon soothes, but begs contemplation.

The Feminalz present the third part of the Technoburlesque: the subversive electrocabaret with elements of ex-Yugoslav pop culture and playful queer feminist humor. The door to the disco club, to the new eighties and the old noughties, to modern trap and contemporary schlagers is wide open again. The songs are based on individual acts from the performance Image Snatchers, produced by Institute Emanat, which has been running since April 2013 and has been performed over 60 times. Image Snatchers are a proof that a performative variety show that is responsive to the trends, resistant to social norms and cynical towards normality is a form of social commentary that is very much alive. And so for the third time we have decided that the show deserves a repeatable consumer product.
The adaptations, remixes and the original club music for Image Snatchers show are developed by Luka Prinčič (ex-Nova deViator, Deviant Funk …) together with new and regular members of The Image Snatchers: DeeDeeVoid, Musée-Cunt, GlitterAid and, as songwriter, Gospod Magdalenca. The reshuffled team of The Feminalz present themselves with five new tracks and deliver what they are best at, a mix of instrumental club hits and verbose, text-based songs, which function both as performance acts and as repeatable recordings. The subversive note of the album becomes obvious through a juxtaposition: the remakes of the disco hits “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan and “So Many Men So Little Time” by Miquel Brown become farsical if set beside GlitterAid’s trap song “Gucci gučí” and parodical when set beside the electro theme of “Neodvisne ženske Pt.1” (Independent Women Part I). The third musical portrait of Image Snatchers is rounded off by the remake of the Yugoslav schlager song “Nogometna utakmica” (Football match) by Beti Jurković.

Surprisingly Sami Konzo did send a life sign, after three years. And we welcome it a lot and so we can present a different view into Sami his music making. This time we can feel a five track trip into deep tech house, that let’s us dream of nice festival events in the woods or at the sea. The perfect moment, when the crowds are together as one. The artwork and the tracks spread signs of hope, while not forgetting the shadows. It is very welcome to publish the tracks as our spring release. Have a good and hopeful time!
For, “Nerdicus Presents Cheese N Pot-C: Ultimate Posse Cut 3000”, the second single from “Nerdicus Presents Cheese N Pot-C: The Adventure Begins – Gab to Kag – On The Move”, Cheese N Pot-C brought together remixers to make it an event. An event that seems appropriate for such a mega posse cut that features 18 EMCEES.
Yeah, you read that right… here’s the line-up… on the mic are… Cheese, Donnie Ozone, Timezone Lafontaine, CM aka Creative, C-Doc, Headsnack, Ill Will The Mick, 34Pro, Highout, Blak Madeen (Al-J & Yusuf), Pot-C, Ocho, Yuk MC, Coherent, Long John, Truck T and last but not least, the Hip-Hop legend Daddy-O of Stetsasonic! For remixing duties… we have remixes by C-Doc who came through with a 12 minute house remix opus, Biggathomas with 5 remixes, cheese with 3 and finally a remix of “Infinite Potential” by Tycoon (who you might remember from Hydra Gwaii). Throw in an acapella & instrumental one, two punch and what you have is a MEGA single, ready to knock you out the box, clocking in at over 1 hour and 19 minutes… 37 minutes longer than the album! So grab this thing… bump it all day… enjoy some dope hip-hop. Yup.
Incredible work from all involved! Wow! Mega thanks to all EMCEES and remixers who put in work. Cheese… man… those remixes and cuts… YO. Biggathomas… woah… that Monstrosity Mix is bangin! Quiet Clapping is a project of Jonathan Deasy – guitarist, improviser, composer, splitting time between Ireland and France. “Among The Haze”, his debut on Mahorka, is a departure somewhat from the usual Quiet Clapping formula of long form 20 minute ambient compositions. The pieces here are shorter, saturated and brimming with emotion. Written while reading Borges and living through a pandemic.

Etched Traumas is more than happy to release ‘Colony’ by Martin Hoogeboom. ‘Colony’ is a soundscape work based on the sounds of ants. Martin says about ‘Colony’ :
“It might be an ethical concern to fill an ant’s nest with molten aluminum, to let it cool down, and to then dig it up. But this is the only way to get a building that looks like it has been designed by an alien architect.
Recent studies have shown that ants regularly communicate with each other by sound. Most ants have a natural washboard and plectrum built-in into their stomach. By rubbing these against each other, they create sound. This enables the queen to order her workers. Researchers can record these sounds, which are the basis of Colony, with the newest audio techniques.
I gave sound designer Theo Calis and trumpet player Ed van den Berkel the following instructions for improvisation: autumn forest, cold, blue sky, strong wind, chasing clouds. In the same forest where you are enjoying your walk, a superorganism is building complex colonies. Like aliens on a new planet.”

The work by these two relatives has been coming out for some time via sonic research, working solo and as part of different projects. But there’s a notorious link behind all the tapes, cables, knobs and electricity around them. They experiment connecting situations, controlling voltage, in order to create this “Raw Opera Vol.2”.
Polwor vs Baltazár take us to a crossroads of dreams, mystical delusions, and parallel universes, where we are able to see the Nexus of separation between this timeline and bypassing to the other side. Sometimes this work takes us somewhere else, feeling like listening to someone else’s daily life, the sounds we’re hearing like field recordings from a universe beyond, or situations we are prone to watch in fever, hallucinations that can perfectly be seen in altered states. “Raw Opera Vol.2” is without a doubt a good way to go.
