about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

“no babble”

CoEx – no babble
although “no babble” is the first release of CoEx on tonAtom or any netlabel, klaus vormehr is far from being a newcomer. having worked with several well-known acts in the music industry and after two self-named records in the 1990s, CoEx is back in 2012.

CoEx adds another country – ireland – to the tonAtom map. and CoEx adds a new facet to the tonAtom styles of music with his own sound between sequential music and live improvisation, influenced by dub reggae, afro beat and art rock.

9 instrumental tracks, well-polished and mostly electronic. served with some topping of violins or percussion resulting in what the artist’s bio rightly calls the CoEx signature sound.

JONAS KOCHER-GAUDENZ BADRUTT

“Strategy of behaviour in unexpected situations”

Jonas Kocher: accordion
Gaudenz Badrutt: electronics

The two musicians collaborate for many years in different formations in improvised music contextes. The duo developp a subtil work that explores the relations between the very electronic sounds of the accordion and the instrumental potential of the electronic. They create a fragmented and tensed sound univers, always open to the present and the accidents.

Accordion player and composer born in 1977, Jonas Kocher studied a.o. with Teodoro Anzellotti, ! Pierre Sublet and Georges Aperghis. He collaborates regularly as accordionist in improvised and conceptual contexts with musicians such Michel Doneda, Christian Wolfarth, Olivier Toulemonde, Hans Koch, Alfredo Costa Monteiro, Duo Diatribes, Jacques Demierre, Christian Kesten, Gaudenz Badrutt, Chris Heenan, … . Jonas Kocher’s work explores the relationships between tone, noise and silence and the processus of listening. As composer he realises projects which are situated between composed theatre, installation and concert pieces. His compositions has been played at Biennale Bern 2010, Jardins Musicaux 2012, SMC Lausanne, Theater Basel, Zentrum Paul Klee, Festival Encuentros Buenos Aires, Umlaut Festival Berlin, Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, Festival Concentus Moravie, Zagreb Biennale. He composes also for hörspiel, dance and theatre. Jonas Kocher runs the label Flexion records.

Gaudenz Badrutt (electronics & comput! er) began his career as a pianist in the field of contemporary classic music. Since 15 years he works as an electronics musician in the field of improvised, experimental music. He is mainly known as one half of the electroacoustic duo strøm (together with Christian Müller, electronics and bass clarinet), as well as part of the duo Hans Koch (bass clarinet) – Gaudenz Badrutt and the duo with Jonas Kocher (accordion). His music is coined by a very instrumental use of computer/live sampling and electronic devices. Filigree, minimal noises, drones and dense structures are key characteristics of his music. He is further occupied in the fields of electronic composition and sound & video installation. Gaudenz Badrutt has further collaborated with Bertrand Gauguet, Burkhard Beins, Michael Vorfeld, Norbert Möslang, Dieb13, Diatribes, Arno Camenisch a.o.. with concerts at home and abroad, including: the JOLT Festival Basel 2011, Zwei Tage Zeit Z&uum! l;rich 2012, Influx Toulouse 2011, Transmediale Berlin 2009, Zoom in B! ern 2008, Norberg Festival (Sweden) 2006, Taktlos/Tonart Bern 2006. “Tulse Hill”

Hannah Marshall – Tulse Hill
I’m very excited to present this extraordinary collection of solo acoustic cello improvisations from the British musician Hannah Marshall. Microtonal African tinged arpegiating create mesmeric circular patterns, occasionally giving way to deep drones. These are augmented by outside noises such as interactions with ventilators and field recordings, “Tulse Hill” is an engrossing listen.

Release includes a PDF booklet of notes and drawings by Hannah Marshall.

Daniel Barbiero

“Not One Nor”

Daniel Barbiero – Not One Nor
Not One Nor presents two works made of discrete events foregrounding the materiality of a large string instrument in its role as a resonating chamber. Both pieces are constructed out of a limited number of gestures and/or pitches and points on the instrument’s geography with the intention of producing an immersion in sound as material, interspersed with contrasting pauses.

Not One Nor for prepared double bass calls for shifting variations in timbre through the use of three gestures corresponding to three different regions of the instrument.

Eighteen Events for Double Bass alternates eighteen prescribed sound actions with an equal number of non-actions to create an image of the flux of aural perception.

Daniel Barbiero: composer, double bass and prepared double bass.
Composed and recorded winter into spring 2012.
Recorded in Silver Spring, Maryland USA.
Mastering by Mark Beazley.

sound collision alliance

“53:38”

sound collision alliance – 53:38
sound collision alliance is a group of three composers who were brought together by their shared interest in exploring the world outside the western classical conservatory style of sound creation. the three composers – darren bartolo, sam krahn, and sarah ritch – rarely discuss melodic or harmonic structure before playing. instead, they use improvisation as a means to investigate the interplay of sound. they experiment with the spatial, harmonic, and chronological elements of sound in order to create a forum to experience vibrations and resonance in an uninhibited environment.

53:38 is the first album from sound collision alliance and was recorded in one session over the course of 6 hours. the sounds created range from pure spontaneous noise to repetitive rhythmic grooves. in addition to guitars, cello and laptop you will also hear gu zheng, guitars, cello, and slinky.

on their first album for pan y rosas, amico and belardinelli recorded a live improvisation session with a guitar and drums. the guitar was later removed, leaving only the drums. leonardo amico then used a laptop to process the drums live. the result is two long tracks of free drumming moving in a stream of consciousness loose narrative flow. sparse high-pitch microbeats and subtle sounds furiously torn into pieces. distorted, multi-toned, multi-layered, spun in every direction.
