about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Thuuooom

“Natur”

Natur is the fourth proper Thuuooom album, showcasing the more ambient side of Tuomo. As the other full-length album released on the same day (Luonto under the monicker Thuoom) the sounds on this record consist 100% of nature field recordings. The recordings contain mostly birds but you can also hear bumblebees, deer, fishes mating, hints of human voices, small insects, sounds of walking through forest, wind, and windchime. Or maybe you can’t hear them, as the sounds have been mutated into something completely else.

Instruments used on this record: Field recordings captured with a binaural Soundman OKM II Classic Solo microphone attached to a Zoom H4n Pro portable recorder.

“(sounds of) Lockdown”

During the period of confinement caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there were places I visited to record their soundscapes. These, especially those of Geophony, were now more awake than ever, since man-made sounds were far fewer in number but nevertheless never ceasing to be heard. Life in agriculture, in the forest or in industry, although at a slower pace, never stopped. This sound work was carried out using binaural and aural microphones and tries to mirror the acoustic dynamics of various locations and villages in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital, next to the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, between March 16 and May 15, 2020.

King Elizabeth – A State of Mind

King Elizabeth – A State of Mind

King Elizabeth

“A State of Mind”

Following on from his Young Bloods / Beasts EP earlier this month, King Elizabeth is back again with his third LP of the year: A State of Mind. King Elizabeth continues his astonishingly eclectic journey into the nexus of synth music and alternative rock, now with a decidedly neo-psychedelic bent often rooted in a legacy of alternative dance fusions: hazy dirges, ambient techno workouts, hypnotic loops, even transatlantic electro-industrial sounds. Part of the album’s charm is how often it throws the listener despite being a heavily nostalgic evocation of a decade. My pick for stand-out track is the invigorating rhythms of “It’s Polarity”.

Words from the artist:

The inspiration behind the album is the power of the mind and the affects it can have on us.

We all have feelings and thoughts about everything and anything and we can be affected by them in many different ways. We need to remember its the world that’s crazy not us.

As always thank you for listening

bleed Air – s/t

bleed Air – s/t
[SPT002]

bleed Air

“s/t”

This is a mix tape (on cassette and digital) blending dark ambient, playful electronica as well as experimental beat and drone.

A journey into warm, analogue noise, echo and soundscapes, sometimes perhaps resembling a soundtrack for a yet unfilmed low budget sci-fi movie.

When Robot choirs start singing or (broken) analogue circuits and filters start doing what they want, it can get wacky, but we think it always remains pleasant to listen.

Mostly analogue electronic gear, often of the cheaper and not exactly hip kind, and tape effects were used.

It is recommended to listen to each side of the album in one piece. The single Digital release tracks are not mixed, but musically cut – and we’ve added the side A and B mixed files too. Sounds cooler on the nicely saturated ferro tape though.

bleed Air lives in Cologne, loves his Omnichord OM-27 and his tape echo too.

Shinpal is a musical and emotional itinerary that leads to the interpretation of sounds. Monocromatic melancholy alternate with meditative spaces, between density and rarefaction. Sculpted and texture sounds, noises, discreet rhythms; virtual places that become intimate, familiar; ethereal and vibrant.

These four tracks plays on images, which presents visions of external spaces and internal places, to be investigated with a new point of view. The rest must be discovered …

“In the process of “Empty Spaces” the evolution of the musical message is given by the use of multi-layered sounds, found sounds and digital processing. The main characteristic is the use of the repetition and looping techniques, both from live electronics and prepared material. Sounds passes from ambient music influences to post-drone atmospheres, by inserting passages of melodramatic and melancholic feelings, all with a soft touch of transported restlessness.”

“Young Bloods / Beasts EP [2020]”

2020 has been a prolific year for King Elizabeth, already releasing two LPs on Vulpiano (This is Not My Church and The Awakening) with a new one coming soon: A State of Mind. Double A side single Young Bloods / Beasts leads the way as a taste of what’s to come with his signature synthy rock style.

Words from the artist:

New album ‘A State of Mind’ on the way shortly and as always I like to release a single first, this time it felt right to release a double A side single-“Young Bloods” & “Beasts”, with one being at a time of our youth and the other being a journey in adulthood.

Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP

Poetas Marcianos – AFRODYZIACO EP
[pn165]

Poetas Marcianos

“AFRODYZIACO EP”

Pandemic and all, Poetas Marcianos have been working quietly, persistently, and with great conviction from a few years ago, present an advance of their second album, “Afrodyziaco”. Containing six out of thirteen tracks, they provide a glimpse of an elaborated, disciplined endeavor. Their framework, already presented in their first album, released in 2015, consists mostly in three-to-four -minutes-long tracks arranged like little intelligent-techno-pop goldsmiths. Music for trance, dancing in the midst of an electronic drunkenness, or for attentive listening, since this framework is filled with sonic and compositional details.

Words are by Poeta Morgue and Poeta Oz, except “Respiro Azul”, by Sandriuska Theremin; music is generally by Morgue; arrangements are by the group, carrying a predominant quasi psychedelic sonic quality around them, fitting very well in the communicative atmosphere these artists aim at. Creative and intelligent sound inserts closing some tracks are real highlights, such as “El Diario de Tesla” (Tesla Journal), a beautiful retrospective of an individual’s cosmic vicissitude turning into an anti military claim; or “Respiro Azul” hypnotic trance, where Sandriuska’s vocals number, both in Mapudungun and Spanish, sensitive political mapuche claims, closing with a tribal voices and fifes invocation ritual. A highlight we are grateful for is that beats and rhythmic patterns are not programmed in a constant tempo: there are variations, moving from 4/4s to 7/8s, some of them easily danceable to or inviting a careful listening, for the theremin and other electronic devices outer space touch connects us to German 1970s prog, specifically Cluster and Harmonia. Thus, these tracks run away from the rhythmic and melodic monotony found in many Chilean electro pop artists productions.

Thus, the overtly political aims of these songs deconstruct cheap national cliché, such as the ironic Chilean cuisine praise (“Cazuela”), Chilean singer Rosita Serrano’ Nazi flirtings (“Transgénica”), or local pop culture tributes, like 1980s comic strip characters (Lautaro Parra’s “Blondi” or Marcela Trujillo’s graphic novels) becoming claims on sexual and gender discrimination or helpless, proletarian descamisadas masses. Words are skeptical, parodic, filled with an overt, bitter irony, revealing these poet/musicians literary background and their mastery of present-day oral and vocal poetry resources.

Suffice to say that that “Blondi” has also been taken to video clip format -available via YouTube-, in a 1920s German expressionist silent cinema aesthetic.

Poetas Marcianos music isn’t escapist at all, carrying a dramatic intensity, as a result of both vitality and social critique, not falling prey to many politicians’ grave mood, likely to present existential martyrdom as the only politically correct way. This band’s work presents true criticism, providing also room for humor in their ultramodern electronica and poetry mixture enchantment.

Since we’re really close friends with the band, I see no conflicts in reviewing their work. I try to keep a distance, but the eulogy fits here, for this album contains very good music and poetry. As simple as that.

“Oceanic”

Oceanic is a massively long LP of experimental Ambient material I recorded between 2007 to 2008. Most of the tracks were live broadcasts on various internet radio stations (remember those?). I would build up loops using loopers as well as by using my Puredata patch ‘Jlooper’, then improvise with the K1, Guitar, and other fx and percussion. It’s some pretty out there stuff and great to put on before going to bed to direct your dreams to weird and interesting places.

Alessandro Barbanera – Haunted Houses

Alessandro Barbanera – Haunted Houses
[Lav 85]

Alessandro Barbanera

“Haunted Houses”

“Haunted Houses” is a collection of seven tracks in slow, melancholy, dreamlike, nocturnal mood. It’s a work made of waiting, of grainy sounds and silences full of rustles. It’s a work talking about isolation, either in a physical and mental space; which talks about full spaces and empty or restricted spaces, of presences and absences, of memory and hope, of distances, of houses and rooms. Rooms innervated with restlessness and waiting (the opening track “Sleepless”). Houses where memories crowd, layered memories that coexist with the present (the title-track “Haunted Houses” is a short electroacoustic study on perception: indistinct, evanescent sounds, old pianos in the distance, confused and ectoplasmic voices, furniture that moves from the floor above, sighs…). And then there are presences such as those of literary characters, which can come to life in the mind while reading (“The death of Joe Christmas” is inspired by the restless and controversial character narrated by William Faulkner in “Light in August”).

Even absences find space in the album, manifesting themselves in their impalpable distance (the piece “In Absence”), as memories of a past that has no place in the present. Then the rooms can become places overloaded with pain (the track “Torture Room”), where this suffering and effort can take an expiatory, spiritual, meditative form. And after all this inner torment, even isolation can turn into an opportunity for reflection, “redemption” and sincere change: the final tracks “Pure” and “Endless” try to capture this renewed spirit, following a strongly emotional path. “Endless” closes the circle, but it can also reopen it.

“Haunted Houses” was made with guitars, contact microphones, an old cassette recorder, field recordings, dusty and grainy lo-fi sounds, found objects, recordings of streets at night, sounds of a carpentry workshop, slowed sounds, manipulation of loops of classical music taken from the radio. Every detail, every sound has been carved and polished day after day, chiseled and positioned with care and devotion, in a work of “sound craftsmanship”.
