about

Since 2010, many netlabels and artists publish their new free music releases on the clongclongmoo website. Free means that you don't have to pay anything or register to download music. However, you can usually pay something to support the artists. Please note the licenses under which the music is published. This is important to know what you are allowed to do with the music. Please visit the labels' homepages to get the free music. Most files are published under a creative commons licence. At netlabellist you will find an extensive list of websites that also offer (or have offered) free music. If you run a netlabel yourself or offer your music for free and want to draw attention to it, you are welcome to use the submission form. And remember that clongclongmoo is not there to do business, because “Business Is Not My Music.”

Luke Lund – Vaporous Passage

Luke Lund – Vaporous Passage
[TERR115]

Luke Lund

“Vaporous Passage”

TERR115: “Vaporous Passage” is a ruminative distillation of Luke Lund’s hypnagogic drone guitar and obsession with fx, dedicated to exploring textural properties and limitations of the EBow.

Inspired by revisiting recordings from 2011, this hourlong improvised guitar journey harkens back to his EBow worshipping “Infinite Sustain” albums from former ambient project Light Overhead, but importantly bears no efforts to purely retrace those recordings a decade later.

Split into two contrary forces, the album opens with bittersweet, swirling vignettes saturated with ferric fuzz — the dreamlike, chiming breeze of “Deliverance From Doubt” arcs to elegant organ-like tones before dissipating away into the glistening, soporific kaleidoscope of “Far Peripheral” — A reprise bridges the warm soundscapes into a despaired flipside of unholy drone — The depleted discord of “First Encounter” paints a monochrome, void-staring picture — The churning phantom rhythm of quasi-industrial “The Ache Beneath” crushes across spiraling walls of doom — The searching album finale floods over with a heart-stricken motif as a closing gesture…

“Vaporous Passage” is a vehement step forwards, revitalising his relationship with weightless guitar by a more mature approach.

rADio eNd

“Salvator Salvandus”

Ed End:
Album concept, song titles, and original source music.

Charles Rice Goff III:
Additional sounds, mixes, final edits, and cover art.

Technology:

Ed End:

Novation Bass Station analog synthesizer in rack with Yamaha DX21 keyboard.
Rhythms generated by a Digitech Trio Pedal in various FX circuits, coupled with a pink Mini Kaossilator Korg, an electric frequencies generator, and various FX pedals.
Samples are done with an old turntable with an elastic band and some other stuff under the records to make irregular playing surfaces.
Etheric Body incorporates a computer overlayer mix.

C. Goff III:

Voice, Korg R3 Vocoder/Synthesizer, Korg Z1 Synthesizer, Micro Moog Analog Synthesizer, Hello Kitty Stratocaster Electronic Guitar, Aklot Electro-Acoustic Soprano Ukulele, Various Plectra, Boss RC 20X Loop Station Loop Duplicator, Ibanez DM 1000 Digital Delay, Yamaha FX 500 Effects Unit, Various Analog Foot Pedal Sound Effects, Tascam 424MKIII 4-Track Cassette Recorder, K-Mart Portable Phonograph, Modified Vinyl and Flexidisk Records, Cool Edit Pro II, Audacity, Midisoft MIDI Scorewriter, Windows Media Player, Roxio 2011 Sound Recorder, Several Plug-In Audio Sound Effects, Amazing MIDI Wave-To-MIDI, Polysoft MIDI to Mp3 Converter, Natural Reader Voice Emulator

Editing Process:

To produce this collection, Goff blended many of his own original recordings with Ed’s source materials. Goff also modified Ed’s source materials in many ways. Simple digital effects altered source track sounds and/or speeds. Some source tracks were played on a keyboard directly through the inputs of a Korg Vocoder. On one piece, a single rhythmic source phrase was modified in a number of ways, then the various modified phrases were linked together into a chain. Some source tracks were converted to MIDI files, then the resulting tracks were altered to showcase a variety of MIDI sounds. Some edits were recorded onto a 4 track cassette tape and remixed manually into digital files.

Below the surface :
We talked a lot about the symbolic elements before Goff upgrade it.
About Salvador Salvandus concept you will discover yourself an answer if you translate the fifth track title.
It seems one big problem in this world is about on one side the self proclamated saviors, kind of people often thinking that there is only one solution : their solution… and on the other side the savior worshipers, kind of people often thinking it’s more safe to be save by someone else than to do it themselves…
For me both are wrong. Of course, people with a little psychological skills know that the “hand seeking help”, is more trying to drag down someone else to feel less low. Sameway that the “helping hand” is more trying to steal the benefit of the salvation. Obviously the savior can’t save and the savior seeker can’t be save.
Both being blinded because too much self centered. In this problem there is not only two subjects but three and this third one is the world itself, and the world, this wide network of living beings brings a real solution if you are able to listen it. You get the process and knows how to act toward to solve it till you are able to feel these connections and understand how to set your mind.
Hard to explain fully in few words roughly translate that’s why I prefer let the music talk.

Above the surface :
It took me several listening before to get it, Salvador Salvandus is the kind of album you can often go back to and slowly become a familliar presence as well as that shadow behind you can be. For me it’s an important step in rADio eNd study of how a kind of soul can be reveal thru the transformation of the sound material. That’s why I’m so happy Goff share his editing process. And I hope you will be as joyfull than me that he brings this music to life.

Musica Casual – Hegemonias

Musica Casual – Hegemonias
[pn194]

Musica Casual

“Hegemonias”

“Hegemonías”, the most recent album by Santiago’s Rodrigo Mardones aka “Música Casual”, is an ode to abstraction revealed through 4 small suites that will feed the most unsatisfied needs of contemporary music lovers.

Starting from tools that are not necessarily the latest trend in fashion, Mardones manages to construct a meta-music that is desired by both collectors and addicts to the accumulation of gadgets with little or no talent for the inventiveness that we happily encounter here. The notion of less is more finds its newest exponent in “Música Casual”. It follows in a legacy of stars that have made of electronic music paradises of plenitude. You name them.

A poisonous industrial environment is what the ex-manager of the group “Sintra” delivers in “Hegemonías”, a record that affirms him as a reference point when talking about post-Chilean psychedelia.

Wilder Gonzales Agreda
(Lima, Perú. Agosto / August 2021)

“Hegemonías” (“Hegemony”) is a concept borrowed from the thinking of the Italian philosopher Antonio Gramshi/ we live in full pandemic hegemony/ the question was how do I continue to cross through it/ making music/ yes, with what I had at hand/ obsolete technologies/ a way of being in the world/ at the beginning was all noise/ step by step/ less is more/ while the more restrictions the more music is made.

LES – Anisotropic Collapse

LES – Anisotropic Collapse
[mhrk283]

LES

“Anisotropic Collapse”

LES (LunarEscapeSystem) is an Israeli electronic music duo based in Tel Aviv, formed by Elena P. and Genrietta P., an ambient/soundscape/techno project that began collaborating six years ago and ever since has had numerous live A/V performances.

The duo say they get their inspiration from the avant-garde electronic scene of western europe in the beginning of the 90s, the early electronics movement from the 60s, BBC radiophonic workshop recordings, Sci-Fi movies soundtracks. They have developed their own sonic language, inspired by the natural sound of the elements, modern urban chaos, space phenomena, and silence. Through the years, the duo grew as electronic music producers and sought to venture into new territories by collaborating with different artists, creating multidisciplinary co-operations that intend to combine art mediums. These co-operations push and expand the boundaries of the artists themselves, their listeners, and spectators. Working outside of accepted artistic paradigms, LES believes in the art’s potential as a hybrid set of actions. Both Genrietta and Elena’s core activities were initially set in the visual arts, and the sound experiences created by the project are intertwined with the visual. LES strives to suggest new potentials that are multi-sensual via the universal language of sound.

The Mahorka debut of LES, their album “Anisotropic Collapse” is an exploration of glitchy ambient techno soundscapes inspired by Stephen Hawking’s book “A Brief History of Time” and space phenomena, released as free (cc) digital download and amazingly beautiful limited digipak CD. “Anisotropic Collapse” was recorded using analogue and modular synths and an “anti-radio” instrument that captures electromagnetic fields. Enjoy the voyage!

Music and artwork by LES. Mixed by Assaf Tager, and mastered in Artefacts Studio, Berlin.

TN and _DS – Triangulation

TN and _DS – Triangulation
[ET132]

TN and _DS

“Triangulation”

4 tracks that started life as two tracks shared between two artists DS and TN as an Exquisite corpse experiment. Completed during the 2nd & 3rd UK lockdown.

Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver, is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.

Part 1 – joint track composition

Preliminary guidelines were established between the two artists via messenger conversation

One project file for each of the two tracks
Person who has worked on it last uploads new version & deletes old version
Add one minute & only alter ½ of previous minute (can break rules to allow reverb and delay tails to last longer than the minute)
Must over lap with last last piece (this rule can be broken if it benefits the composition)
Can copy and paste at will from any previous piece (eg if you feel an aspect of the previous minute needs to last longer, or it benefits the composition to revisit an earlier moment)
Other recorded material permissible.
Artists to continue exchanging 3x until length of track is around 6 mins

Part 2 – independent mixing of tracks.

Two track compositions to be taken by each artist. Both artists to develop their own mixes with permission to add elements, modify/repeat elements as they wish.
No other rules.
Final length of mixed tracks to be between 3.5 mins and approx 7 mins.
4 final tracks as a result.

TN – Taylor Nuttall

Taylor Nuttall trained as a visual artist and has an early exhibition career with artworks featuring painting, print, sculpture, photography and installation. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he began to explore the potential of creativity using computer technologies. As well as exhibiting these works in traditional gallery spaces this led to a number of pieces being designed to be experienced online as virtual artworks. These virtual artworks also began to explore the use of sound. After completing a residency and commission for the arts organisation Folly in Lancaster as part of the Digital Arts Festival in 2000, Taylor became Artistic Director and CEO for Folly, and a founding director of AND Festival, putting his own creative activity on hold until more recently. Taylor is now working with sound, drawing upon composition and musical skills he learned from playing piano and classical guitar as well as re-learning more robustly about sound design, composition and music theory.

Dominic Smith is an artist with a wide practice that includes new media and sonic experimentation. He has exhibited and performed internationally since the early 2000’s. He is also one half of the musical project ‘The Fishery Commission’ who began life around 2005ish as an experimental act that involved recycled 8bit games systems and in recent years has become something resembling real music, having performed at festivals, released albums and had international radio coverage. Under his _DS title he produces synthesised soundscapes that occupy a space between Eno’s discreet music and Lucier’s Hartford Memory Space compositional strategies.

ANTERAKS – The Harbour Of Thoughts

ANTERAKS – The Harbour Of Thoughts
[mhrk282]

ANTERAKS

“The Harbour Of Thoughts”

Through the project ANTERAKS the voices of INNOCENT BUT GUILTY (France) and UBURGRUND (Romania) go beyond what the eyes cannot reach. The two speakers of visions met in the vaporous virtual realm and decided to melt their different tongues and challenge an unequal syncretism of analogue and digital equipment. Past endeavours were released at Foolish Records from Bordeaux (Serotonine, debut du voyage; Past and Beyond; Invisible Traces) upon an effort to combine dark-ambient colours and noise-meditative ruminations taking inspiration out of poetry and intimate congestions. The album “The Harbour of Thoughts” throws enigmatic sound patches of dreary and pensive recollections from written pages and sudden unconscious movements of the mind. As ANTERAKS casts its despondent contrasting lights over the tops of one’s reverie, on the other shore of imagination a wave digs the cave for your eclipse.

Various Artist – 0808 2021 Mountain Day v1.1

Various Artist – 0808 2021 Mountain Day v1.1

Various Artist

“0808 2021 Mountain Day v1.1”

Mountain Day is a traditional celebration day in Japan.
This year, in 2021, it will be held on August 8 for sporty reasons.
The number “808” reminds us of the ROLAND TR-808, of course. It’s the famous drum machine that gave birth to a lot of techno and electro music.
However, it must be said that the overly electronic sound of the TR-808 has been unfairly traded in the decades of history since its birth by the music called Gorge.

The stage is set.
2021, 808, Mountain Day.
On this day, the question “Is it possible to have TR-808 x Mountain x Gorges? The bootists gathered to answer this question.

From Japan, the king of heavy slow music “SLAB,” Drastik Adhesive Force.
TEACHI, a proponent of the ” Island Gorge,” lives in Okinawa and is scheduled to release a full album on GORGE.
IN, and Gorge evangelist hanali, who moved to a remote area of Fukuoka two years ago and whose survival is now in doubt.
Then there’s KΣITO, a DJ and track maker who is leading the Japanese GQOM scene, who hosts the Tokyo-based GQOM party TYO GQOM and is active in the DJ unit GQOMZILLA.

And there are some from abroad who will join this experiment.
>From the Argentinean art community pantanosumpf’s “FANGAL” label, which specializes in Gorge
iZueL_, a Spanish bootist living in Munich, Germany, and
and the enigmatic CURTIEMBRE, who lives in Nueva Pompeia, an underground district in Buenos Aires.
Marginal electro music master Adam Ond Martono from Czechoslovakia also contributed tracks.

What will the chemical reaction of TR-808, mountains, and Gorges produce, or not?
This album is the answer.

2021/08/12 Postscript
Kazuki Koga and Indus Bonze, who had misunderstood the date of Mountain Day, joined additionally and upgraded to v1.1.

Unseq

“Subject Xi”

This new release comes with a track count that 20kbps has never seen before in an individual artist’s album. Counting no less than fifty tracks, it’s actually a music generating machine, a veritable intonarumore, with an aleatoric element creating endless (well, factorial(50)) configurations, for according to the artist’s instructions, the tracks are meant to be shuffled. In Unseq’s own words: ‘A detailed exploration of a corrupted mind; thoughts scrambled by inner demons striking at the core.’

Duo from the city of Osaka that has a taste for the sounds of German music. Dusseldorfnites have an heretical and quite eclectic musical style. Sakanaka’s magical voice and Yokokura’s atmospheric tracks can surprise us.

With Duesseldorfnite we can hear techno, new wave or noise as well as other genres that we would never have imagined listening to in this duo from Japan’s second largest city. They are a really mistery music box.

Boyan & Bon-Psy – Legacy (Bon-Psy Remix)
[SFX030821]

Boyan & Bon-Psy

“Legacy (Bon-Psy Remix)”

Melancholy and dance-friendly are moods that are uncommonly found in the same track, although that is exactly what UK producer Bon-Psy offers us on his interpolation of “Legacy (To Georgi)” – originally by Bulgarian piano whiz Boyan.

The two producers Boyan and Bon-Psy are not only worlds apart when it comes to location, they traverse different realms of genre too as Boyan leans towards soul and jazz-infused chillhop, while Bon-Psy pleasures audiences with forward-thinking electronica.

Through Stereofox Records a connection was established and the result… Bon-Psy transforms the serene and stripped-down composition “Legacy (to Georgi)” by Boyan into an electrifying remix by fleshing it out with glossy electronic textures, while keeping the melancholy of the original. Its Bon-Psy’s garden-fresh sound and his ability to take risks with his music that’s frequently garnered attention, and his “Legacy” (Remix) is yet another example of him pushing the boundaries of his genre.
